peta2's Sandwich of the Week: Veggie Dogs October 8, 2009

Posted by Pulin Modi at October 8, 2009 4:01 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 11 ) | TrackBack

Listen, I know that veggie dogs aren't really considered "sandwiches," but it's something in between bread, so I think it fits the definition closely enough to make this a sandwich of the week!

So anyway, if you're wondering what to eat and interested in a simple, protein-packed meal why not bring some veggie dogs for lunch?

You probably don't need a recipe or instructions, but to humor you I'll include some anyway ...

Step 1. Buy veggie dogs and bread.
Step 2. The morning before you go to school, cook the veggie dogs according to the instructions on the package. I'm lazy so I microwave them. You might care to boil them or use a fancy pan or indoor grill. Whatever makes you happy, you know?
Step 3. Put the veggie dogs in the buns.
Step 4. Wrap the veggie dogs and buns in aluminum foil. They'll stay warm and fit perfectly in your lunch bag.
Step 5. Go to school and eat! Remember to recycle the foil!

As I mentioned, I can get pretty lazy, so I just swiped some bbq sauce, mustard, and ketchup from the fridge at work for lunch today, but you can mix it up with Chili 'Dogs' or whatever else makes you happy.

It's seriously such a great alternative to the old standard of PB&J, so give it a try for lunch sometime soon. And bring an extra for a friend to try, will ya?

Does that sound easy enough? What's your favorite topping for veggie dogs?

Free Stuff Friday - Limited Edition Veggie Dog T-Shirt! July 4, 2008

Posted by Ryan at July 4, 2008 1:19 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 190 ) | TrackBack

Leave it to the remarkably unique city of Austin to host a massive veggie dog eating contest deep in the heart of Texas. This is the same legendary town that boasts a team of vegan firefighters, student groups that table dressed as zombies, and even hosted a peta2 Take Action Conference.

I guess it shouldn't be surprising then that in this oasis of veganism, nearly 300 locals showed up to chow down on LightLife Tofu Pups and vegan ice cream from a local company called NadaMoo!

This year's winner? Spencer "Tree" Lockwood, who proudly consumed 21 veggie dogs!

So to celebrate this tremendous accomplishment, and in recognition of the 4th of July, how about a contest??

Comment below with your favorite veggie dog toppings. The person with the most delicious-sounding toppings will earn a limited edition t-shirt from the contest.

I'll start! I would make a Hawaiian veggie dog, covering it in pineapple, veggie "ham", and BBQ sauce! Go ahead, try to beat that!

- Ryan!

P.S. - This contest ends July 18, 2008 and the winner will be chosen and notified by July 25, 2008!

'Nugget' in Line for Veggie Dogs?! September 13, 2007

Posted by Marta at September 13, 2007 3:04 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 3 ) | TrackBack

Oh yes, you read that right. The absolutely delish Dogville, located here in lovely Norfolk, VA, decided to set up their hot dog cart in our parking lot recently, and the only dogs I saw on the grill were the yum-yum-yum vegan Tofurky sausages. Check it out for yourself:

So naturally we thought, "Hey, 'Nugget' would sure like one of these!" And the next thing I know, look who is standing in line:

Who would ever, ever eat an animal in a bun when the alternatives are tastier, healthier, and well, not someone else's flesh? Beats me.

Anyway, this next photo is long overdue, but I'd like to give a big "THANKS!" from all of us here at peta2 to two amazing former interns, Cassandra and Shivani, who made us the melt-in-your-mouth vegan Snickerdoodles and Chocolate Chip Cookies in the photo below. We miss you both! Come back (and please make us more cookies)!

Okay, that's all from me for now, but I gotta ask: Who's stoked for Hug-A-Vegetarian Day on September 28th?! Ryan and I are!

Hope your Thursday is going great!

Marta

Veggie Dogs, Vegan Pizza, and Veggie Chili Fries! August 14, 2007

Posted by Marta at August 14, 2007 2:32 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 1 ) | TrackBack

So I know it seems like we eat a whole lot of food here in the peta2 office (and I'm in no way denying this—we shovel food down like nobody's business), but we keep showing you the pictures not because we're trying to rub it in that we're eating a ton of yummy food, but because we want to make sure you lovely people know that there are a whole lot of options out there available to vegans. There are vegan alternatives to almost any meat, dairy, or egg-based product, so keep an eye out for them!

A couple of weeks ago we had several soy cheese pizzas (some plain, some piled with veggies), and this afternoon we had an array of veggie goodness: Tofurky Beer Brats, Kielbasa, and Sweet Italian Sausages—not to mention a whole lot of veggie chili fries. I'm stuffed, so I'll let you browse a few of the photos I took.

We do more than just eat, though—really. Like help animals. Click here to see what more you can do to help animals.

PS - Restaurants carry delicious foods like veggie dogs because of consumer demand, so be sure to request vegetarian food at your local eateries!
