A Vegan Wedding in Photos May 29, 2009

I went to my first-ever vegan wedding recently, and it was so fun! It was amazing to go to a cruelty-free wedding—it sends such a positive message. Check out the happy bride and groom—two of my favorite people ever—on the big day (they know that Meat's Not Green!):

You better believe lots of deliciousness graced my plate (and eventually, my happy stomach): General Tso's vegan chicken, stuffed tomato, Tofurky brat, sushi, avocado wrap, falafel with hummus, veggie pate, and fruit. Also, notice the super-cute cupcake-cookie wedding favor. Anyone who doesn't think vegan food is delicious definitely hasn't been to a vegan wedding!

There were beautiful (and tasty!) veggie pates:

And loads of veggie sushi, too.

And not to rub it in or anything (OK, to rub it in a little), there were vegan cupcake towers! Check out the vanilla cupcakes with strawberry frosting and the chocolate cupcakes with mocha frosting from Sticky Fingers Bakery! Jealous?

Who wishes they had a cupcake right now?

Marta

P.S. Check out the delish chocolate dipped strawberries we had at the rehearsal dinner!

Vegans Get Married At KFC? September 11, 2008

I know it's a little strange for most of you to imagine that people got married at a KFC. Then add to that the fact that vegans got married at KFC, and you've definitely got some explaining to do! After all, one might ask, "Isn't KFC notorious for selling meat?"

As it turns out, some very well-intentioned and dedicated individuals decided to celebrate their love for each other, as well as their dedication to animal rights by getting married at a KFC in Canada because of a groundbreaking campaign victory just a few months ago.

Most KFCs in Canada have added a vegan chicken item to the menu, and the company that coordinates the purchase of all chickens killed for Canadian KFCs has committed to ensuring the phase-in of the least cruel form of slaughter, controlled-atmosphere killing (CAK), improving audits into KFC suppliers in Canada and forming an animal welfare advisory board to oversee the many changes that will be made. Read all about it and what you can do to pressure KFCs outside of Canada to make changes to reduce the suffering for animals here.

So while we're not quite at the stage where KFC anywhere is offering vegan wedding cakes and other tasty vegan treats (those were imported for this event), it's a definite step in the right direction to have mainstream vegan options at this fast-food restaurant's locations all over Canada. And we totally love the fact that two hardcore vegan animal rights activists would use such a significant opportunity to highlight one of the biggest steps forward for animals suffering on factory farms and slaughterhouses.

-Pulin

P.S.- If you are in Canada and haven't tried the vegan sandwich yet, I'd say it's worth a try.
