Who doesn't love tofu? You can eat it so many different ways—baked, stir fried, grilled, broiled, steamed, sautèed, or deep fried (my fave). You can even use tofu to make a vegan cheesecake! Plus, tofu's low in calories, high in protein, and contains no cholesterol. Want to know the best part about tofu though? No animals have to suffer to make it! If you didn't already know, tofu's made from soy beans.

To show how much we heart tofu, everyone in the office is sporting our new 'Tofu Never Screams' t-shirts.

The shirt's so popular that even our favorite four-legged pal, Zoe wanted one of her own!

I know I said this recently, but I never cease to be amazed by Street Teamers' creativity. Decorating your stuff to get out the vegetarian message is always a good idea, so when you come up with cute new ways to decorate your stuff, we all love it! 14-year-old Laken Brooks from North Carolina decided to decorate her compact mirror with a tofu design. Check it out!

Who wouldn't want to give tofu a try after seeing that cuteness? I asked Laken a few questions to let you get to know her better:

Are you vegetarian? Do you have any favorite vegetarian foods?
I'm a vegetarian, and have been so for around a year. I'm starting to make the transition to vegan, though, because I want to help animals in any way that I possibly can. If they can't help themselves, who can help them but us? My favorite vegetarian food would probably have to be grilled veggie dogs! Frozen blueberries are also one of my fave snacks.

What's your favorite peta2 campaign?
My favorite peta2 campaign would probably be Animal Testing Breaks Hearts. I love it because it made me realize that I could do a lot more to end animal suffering, like buying cruelty-free!

Laken's right—there's so much you can do to help end animal suffering. So why not get started now?

Ridiculous News Of The Week April 9, 2009

A very kind woman in Colorado was shocked to find out that staff at her Department of Motor Vehicles is basically a bunch of prudes. The story, which is all over the news, is that she wants to get a license plate to show her support for healthy, humane, environmentally-friendly eating.

She decided to go with "ILVTOFU" which seems simple enough, right? Nope! They rejected her pretty much for being inappropriate! Can you believe that?

As you can see in this television report, the DMV thought some people may misread I-LV-TOFU as I-LV-TO-F-U. See the difference?

I understand the difference, but it's still totally ridiculous news. Let the woman have her license plate, will you please?!

What do you think? Should she be allowed to get a license plate expressing her love of animal-friendly tofu?

Formed by five best friends who love making positive dance music with pop-punk undertones, And Then There Were None (ATTWN) are here to remind us that fun and positive music still exists. It only took me one listen of their single "Reinventing Robert Cohn" off of their latest release Who Speaks for Planet Earth? to turn my desk into a dance party! Speaking of positive, did I mention that all five members are 100% vegetarian? What do you get when you combine two of my favorite things? Tofu Robots!

I don't know if all of you have been exposed to these wondrous creations (the late Casey Calvert was the one who turned me on to them), but they are awesome! He loved their block heads and "stupid" faces, and I have to say that I agree.

Aren't they so cool looking? And guess what? We're giving one away! To win, leave a comment telling me what kind of robot you would make out of your favorite vegan food items. Mine would be a Tofutti Cutie robot! Oh, and pictures will probably help you with the whole winning thing . . .

Cookbook Contest for Hungry Banditos! October 9, 2007

Hot Damn and Hell Yeah: Recipes for Hungry Banditos/The Dirty South Vegan Cookbook is the best cookbook I have laid eyes on since Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World! With recipes like Southern Fried Tofu and Party in Your Mouth Cake, can you really argue with me?

Actually, it is a split of two cookbooks (double the fun): Hot Damn and Hell Yeah: Recipes for Hungry Banditos is by Ryan Splint and The Dirty South Vegan Cookbook is by Vanessa Doe. Thank goodness those two got together for the very important mission of getting the word out about the wonderful world of Southern vegan cuisine.

Recently, PETA's road warrior Lindsay tried out some of the mouth-watering recipes in the cookbook. Here is a pic of the cooking process...

And here are the results!



Hungry? I am! If Lindsay didn't live all the way in Louisville, KY, I would try to steal those biscuits from her. Fortunately for you, you don't have to resort to such measures—we are giving away two copies of the cookbook right here!

Has anyone seen the new "Everybody Was Tofu Fighting" sumo wrestling button at Hot Topic? My friend, Mylie, was sportin' one on her bag today, and it is totally cute! What do you think?

I think I am going to get one today, or beg Mylie for hers. I suggest that you do the same (go get one—not ask Mylie). If you don't have a mall with a Hot Topic nearby, you can still get it online here.

Did I mention there is a keychain too?!? Do they take pin submissions over at Cute Overload?
