Congratulations are in Order! November 19, 2009

Appearances from Pete Wentz, Zooey Deschanel, Leighton Meester, and David Cross made the Roseland Ballroom in NYC the place to be last night. Perhaps the most memorable moment of the evening came from Christofer Drew (a.k.a. Never Shout Never). His acceptance speech for the coveted Breaking Woodie award consisted of just four words—"power to the people!" Well said Christopher!

Another friend of peta2 won an award last night: Tech N9ne (who our tour crew has been traveling the country with). Taking home the Left Field Woodie, he beat out stiff competition like Janelle Monae and Major Lazer.
Congrats to all the winners! I think we should get MTV to introduce a new category next year—Best Nugget in a peta2 Video Woodie. They'd totally go for that, right?

McCruelty tech n9ne Texas Tech University
Hey ladies and gents! It's been a great week so far on the Tech N9ne tour! We're back on the east coast handing out stickers, dvds, and information, and really making a push for McDonald's to stop torturing animals. So how can we combine a culture of Juggalos and Juggalettes with animal rights?
Face painting! Free at our table every night!

Not only have we gained support from our crowd, but also from the amazing guys in Slaughterhouse.

Royce da 5'9" was rockin' our McCruelty t-shirt on stage in Rochester, NY, over the weekend. We couldn't be more pleased! As for "Ronald McDonald"—he reared his ugly mug in Little Rock, AR, and explained how he personally likes to torture and slaughter chickens. Since he was in the area ...

Keep an eye out for us as we slide down the coast to Florida! But, in the meantime, read about our trip to Texas: peta2 College Outreach finds itself in the northern Texas city of Lubbock this week at Texas Tech University where the medical school has been purchasing cats from local shelters every year for medical students to perform dissections and emergency medical procedure training on. These routines are part of a curriculum that is supposed to prepare students for surgery procedures on people, but in reality the procedures just maim our feline friends while denying students the most modern and accurate methods of medical training. Despite PETA's previous complaints against the school for this kind of foul practice against animals and the miseducation of Texas Tech's medical students, Texas Tech has continued these practices on Lubbock's unfortunate cat population year after year. This, of course, left peta2 no other choice but to roll into town, kick some ass, take some names, and spread the word about why using animals in laboratories is counterproductive for everyone.

We gathered support from over 1,300 students in the past two days to end this cruel habit of butchering Lubbock's cats for pseudoscience. We send out a big thank you to all Texas Tech students compassionate enough to look out for the cats who don't have a voice to consent to what happens to themselves in those medical labs.

peta2 <3's College Outreach, Tech N9ne, and You! October 15, 2009

It's Joey from the college peta2 tour crew, and we've spent all week in the great state of New York! We've been on afew different campuses with a few different petitions—at Binghamton University, we were hard at working trying to get more veg options in their dining halls, and the students were very supportive! We'll keep you in the loop with the results. By the way, how are the veg options at your school? If you're not satisfied, check this out!

We also visited Stony Brook University, in Long Island to inform the students of our McCruelty campaign. Most of them were appalled to learn chickens who end up killed for McDonald's are hung upside down in shackles and have their throats slit—while they're still fully conscious. That's gross and cruel, but it's really easy to help stop this torture by getting involved.
While we were around Brooklyn, we HAD to stop at to get some delicious vegan wings. Check this site out to find out what awesome vegan restaurant is near you!

That's it for me this week. I'll drop this blog here and Renee should be by shortly to pick it up. Thanks for reading guys!
Thanks Joey! We have been traveling through the mid west and it keeps getting colder! This doesn't stop those people that care about animals.

We've hit up the marvelous Knitting Factory in Boise, ID, as well as back to back shows at The Wilma in Missoula, MT.
Tech N9ne fans know how to have a good time! We'll continue our on our journey to shed light on our ongoing McCruelty campaign.
Keep it real and we'll see you soon! Go Veg!
Thanks!
Joey and Renee
peta2 Brings Veganism to Tech N9ne & Penn State October 8, 2009
Posted by Rachel-O at October 8, 2009 10:02 AM | Permalink | Comments ( 1 ) | TrackBackWhat's up guys and gals? We've a solid week of touring here at peta2—check out what we've been up to!
Traveling through the mid-west with Tech N9ne has been a blast! There is a lot of support out here for people that care deeply about animals. Rob is working his magic and spreading the word about the chickens that are suffering for McDonald's.

One of the best things about being on tour with peta2—besides saving the lives of millions of animals—is definitely the food! We're lucky enough to hit up amazing vegan food all over the U.S. of A!

West-ward we go!
Hey kids! It's Joey from the college crew to tell you about an exciting event that happened this past Tuesday night! Bruce Friedrich—the Vice President of Policy and Government Affairs at Peta—came to Penn State University to have an open forum with their students and facility. We had originally requested a debate between Friedrich and a member of PSU's Dairy and Agricultural Department but after months and months of us calling and sending emails, they never responded! During the two days before the event, we stormed the campus with our friend the chicken, leafleting and talking to people about the event.

I'm gonna jet guys! Thanks for reading and see ya next week ...

Canada, Nugget, & a Sumo Wrestler? October 2, 2009
Posted by Rachel-O at October 2, 2009 4:54 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 2 ) | TrackBackHey guys! This is Renee and I'm super excited to be one of peta2's new tour leaders! We have a great crew this year that is going to kick some major ass for animals!

We spent the weekend at College Fest in Boston, MA and we met a lot of people interested in our McCruelty campaign. Each person was shocked and horrified to hear about the abuse McDonalds puts their chickens through—why would anyone want to eat these gentle beings?
One of those beings is our dear friend, Nugget.

I'm not saying who won ... I'll let you work it out amongst yourselves. College's have been great ... but I'm off to Tech n9ne! Watch Out!
More to come soon!
Thanks Ren! Hey friends, it's Joey once again reporting from the road about how we've been getting folks involved with saving animals. A crew of us were also up in Canada the majority of the week touring with our friends Silverstein and A Day to Remember. We had a great time and impacted a lot of people thanks to the hard work and skill of our new crew members, Tyler (a former Street Teamer!) and Rob.

This just reminded me that if these birds have such personalities and character then what makes people think chickens aren't the same? Chickens are actually highly intelligent, fun loving and emotional creatures who sing to their young while they're still in the egg! A group of chickens will even play with a ball if you put it in the middle of them—so why are we allowing such cruelty to occur to these interesting animals? Slitting the throat of a fully conscious chicken as he or she hangs upside down in shackles isn't OK and that's why our McCruelty petition is going around and we thank each one of you that has signed it so far.
I'm heading to Boston University right now to help their student group, Boston University Vegetarian Society, get better veg options in their dining halls. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
Take care and see ya around!
-Ren and Joey!
