10 For 10 Tour: Win A Meet & Greet With BANE! July 14, 2009
Posted by Shannon Phillips at July 14, 2009 12:05 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 8 ) | TrackBackWhen I first heard hardcore (Minor Threat or Bad Brains, anyone?), I fell in love with pretty much everything about the genre. The music was intense, the messages were positive, there were more vegetarians than any other music scene, and many were also straight edge. I no longer felt alone in my moral and ethical beliefs, and I had an army of kids behind me that felt the same way.
When I heard that peta2 was going to be sponsoring this summer's "10 for 10" Tour, I couldn't help but be excited. This "10 for 10" tour has a rotating lineup of some of the most legendary names in hardcore, and some newer bands that are getting hype too. These shows are bringing together different generations of hardcore fans under one roof in appreciation for the music and the scene—all for ten bucks. Shows like this are what makes hardcore great, and because animal rights has always been such a huge part of hardcore, it only makes sense that peta2 would be involved. Not wanting you to miss out on any of the fun, we want you guys to be involved too—that's why we're giving you the chance to win a "meet and greet" with a band that is listed as a favorite band by so many—BANE.

If you and a friend would like a chance to win free entry and a meet and greet with BANE during the August 9th "10 for 10" date (Worcester, MA), leave us a comment with your favorite BANE song (mine is "Count Me Out"). One winner will be picked at random. Entries must be received by July 31 and winners will be notified by August 5th.
Just so you know ... by commenting here, you're acknowledging that you've read and agreed to our privacy policy. Also by commenting, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions.

Rotating Lineup: Poison The Well, Madball, BANE, V.O.D., Terror, Vision, Crime in Stereo, War of Ages, Death Before Dishonor, Trapped Under Ice, The Mongoloids, The Ghost Inside, and This is Hell—check your local tour date for the exact lineup!
Earth Crisis' New Video Interview! May 5, 2009
Posted by Shannon Phillips at May 5, 2009 5:42 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 3 ) | TrackBackToday is a great day for new releases! First I told you about Peaches' new album, I Feel Cream, and now I want to let you know that one of my favorite bands of all time, Earth Crisis' new album, To the Death is out today on Century Media.
As soon as I got into hardcore, I couldn't help but be drawn to Earth Crisis' music. With brutal lyrics showcasing their feelings on veganism, straight edge, and political issues—Earth Crisis has always been a breath of fresh air for me in the music scene. Always keeping close ties to the Animal Rights community, they even had peta2's "Meat is Murder" stickers placed in the first 13,000 copies of the new album! Recently, singer Karl Buechner sat down for an interview with peta2. If you want to check out what Earth Crisis is all about, watch it below ...
If you like what you hear (and how can you not?!), make sure you pick up a copy of To the Death out today on Century Media. Even better? We have a chance to win a copy (along with a really awesome t-shirt) here. You can also check out their new print ad for peta2!
Try not to mosh too hard.
Some Of The Coolest Kids In The World March 24, 2008
Posted by Pulin Modi at March 24, 2008 10:26 AM | Permalink | Comments ( 3 ) | TrackBackBefore I made the switch into some more office-based work for peta2, I used to do a lot of tabling and stuff on the road. And even before that in high school and college, I spent years tabling shows in NJ and NY at all sorts of venues from little halls with a few dozen people per show (with bands like Shadows Fall and Thursday as they were coming up) to larger festivals (like Warped Tour in the late 90s). The thing that's always been most exciting for me is that I got to meet inspiring people everywhere who care about doing something positive for the world.
I recently got a chance to check out some shows tabling for peta2 and wanted to share some photos. The first was the Taste of Chaos tour in Philly. It was awesome and people were really into the Fur Is Dead campaign. It was crazy to see Avenged Sevenfold with a huge setup for the show including pyotechnics and all. One of the first tours I did for peta2 was A7X opening for Rise Against in 2003 to crowds of maybe one hundred people. So this was definitely a step up for them.

Check out Rebecca and Caitie showing off their shirts at the peta2 table.
Then last week, I went to check out Earth Crisis and Shai Hulud! These are among the most influential and well-respected hardcore bands on the face of the planet, and Karl from Earth Crisis also handles vocal duties for Freya. Many of you have no doubt seen the amazing anti-animal testing video for Struggle To Survive from Freya, too. Here are some pics from that.

We had a slightly misprinted petition sheet around so we let Matt Fletcher of Shai Hulud use one for his band's setlist.

Awesome Richmond vegan straight edge kids and their XVX shirts!

A closer look at those shirts.
So overall, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone I've ever met on the road. And please do stay in touch with any peta2 staffers you ever meet at protests, shows, or anywhere else. We all love hearing about all that you do, and hopefully the feeling is mutual. Send us your Street Team feedback, photos, videos, and always feel free just to say hello.
