How Much Can You Watch? (WARNING: Graphic Video) August 25, 2009
Posted by Ryan at August 25, 2009 11:23 AM | Permalink | Comments ( 85 ) | TrackBackWe see a lot of gruesome footage around the peta2 office—whether it's bastards boiling birds, only to sell them to McDonald's, or what happens when military higher-ups seem to think that soldier training sessions should be a bloody battlefield for animals.
There are however, on occasion, videos that even some peta2 staffers have trouble viewing. Videos so horrific that we have to force our callused eyes to watch it all the way through, because we know that if we turn away, nothing will change. This is one of those circumstances.
A new video from inside a slaughterhouse in Turkey, shows ... well, you'll just have to watch ...
This is where meat comes from, folks. Don't let anyone tell you differently.
Make sure to comment below, letting us know how much of the video you could watch and what you witnessed.

Seals Slaughter Canada Day hunt clubbing
There are many things to love about Canada (not least of which is the vegan faux chicken available at many KFC's across the country). Unfortunately, the Great White North's reputation has been stained red by their continued support for slaughtering seals.
As Canadians and their international admirers are celebrating Canada Day today, PETA and its affiliates made sure that nobody forgot those "citizens" who won't be celebrating—because they've been clubbed to death.
To draw attention to the issue, activists held demonstrations at Canadian consulates and embassies around the world. Check out this one, all the way from London, England!

There were also some brave "seals" crashing Canada Day parades all across the country. What can we say? Seals like to party too.
Make sure to leave your comment below, encouraging the Canadian government to give seals something to celebrate!
The 2009 Seal Slaughter is Over. What Now? June 17, 2009
Posted by Ryan at June 17, 2009 12:34 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 11 ) | TrackBackThis year's seal massacre is finally over, but peta2's campaign to end it once and for all has only just begun.
It's clear that the Canadian seal slaughter is quickly losing favor and support: This year, about three-fourths of the seals who were expected to be bludgeoned or shot to death were spared. But we still need your help to make sure that Canada doesn't think the protests will end just because the killing has slowed.
Canadian officials may turn a blind eye to seals' immense suffering—but the outcry against the seal slaughter echoes around the globe. The European Union and the U.S. have banned seal products, and world leaders have spoken out against the massacre. Demonstrations from London to Hamburg and Los Angeles to Toronto have made the headlines, and kind people like you all over the world have sent a strong, united message that the seal bloodbath must end.
So how can you help stop this mass slaughter from ever happening again?
- If you haven't already, urge Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee to use their clout to help stop the slaughter, since all eyes are on Canada as it prepares to host the 2010 Winter Olympics.
- Check out our amazing new spoof Web site: OlympicShame2010.com! It even features "evil" versions of the real Vancouver Olympic mascots!
The (Funny) Shame of the North Atlantic May 28, 2009

That's why we can appreciate this digital animation project created by students at the College of the North Atlantic (the Fightin' Atlantics!) It will probably change the way people view seal clubbing forever.
I present to you: "The Shame of the North Atlantic"!
Putting Virtual Seal Slaughterers in Their Place April 14, 2009
Posted by Ryan at April 14, 2009 4:52 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 5 ) | TrackBackThis past Saturday, we joined many others in World of Warcraft to battle four Horde seal killers to bring light to the current slaughter that's going on in Canada. Many joined our fight, including the mother seals who killed a bunch of Horde to stop them from bashing their seal babies' heads in. It makes you wonder how many baby seals would be killed in Canada if the mother seals were an equal match for the seal murderers

Though many additional Horde members came to slaughter seals and at times the Alliance were outnumbered, the battle was overall successful. Because of this battle, there are so many more people who know about the seal slaughter and exactly what happens to baby seals.

So thank you to all of those who came out to try to stop the seal slaughter. To learn more about how you can help IRL (that's "in real life", n00bs), please click here.

Slaughter Investigation college students horses undercover UF
We all know the horrific treatment of animals killed for meat intended for human consumption, but what about animals killed for dog and cat food? What happens behind the scenes of this shady industry? One University of Florida student went to find out...
After a little investigative research, the student tracked down the Moses Dog Food company, based in Ocala, Florida. He managed to arrange a tour of the facility, which is located directly next to a local high school, in the self-proclaimed "Horse Capital of the World".
What he discovered is disturbing to say the least, so be warned!
You can find the rest of the investigator's photos, as well as contact information to voice your concerns with the company, on his website, titled "The Meat They Eat".
The fact of the matter is that abuse is standard in this industry (as with any industry that uses animals). The majority of animals killed for dog and cat food come from factory farms, and are often categorized by the four D's — dead, dying, diseased, or disabled. Their bodies are then ground up, and fed to the animals that share our homes.
Thankfully, there are plenty of humane, non-animal alternatives available, such as the legendary V-Dog vegan dog food available on our website.
Leave your kudos for the student investigator below, since he has clearly been through hell and back to bring you this information!

Slaughter Thanksgiving turkeys turkey pardon Sarah Palin
The moose-hunting, fur-wearing, pro-aerial-wolf-gunning governor is in the news again. On Thursday, Sarah Palin visited a turkey farm in Wasilla for the traditional pre-Thanksgiving turkey "pardoning." Now, most people probably don't think about exactly how the turkeys raised for Thanksgiving dinner every year meet their maker. But not to worry. Sarah has that under control. In this video, while responding to a reporter who asks about her post-election plans, Palin talks about how she wants to "promote a local business" and do something that won't "invite criticism." While turkeys are being slaughtered. Behind her. ON CAMERA.
Was that one of those "gotcha" questions, Sarah? Because it seems to me that showing the bloody reality of slaughter is just about the worst thing you could do to promote this business. Some people just won't want to eat turkey after watching—especially when this happened the day after PETA released new undercover video from the world's leading poultry-breeding facility. In that video, workers stomp on turkeys' heads, punch them, and bang their heads against metal scaffolding.
This is a country of people who love animals—in fact, 97 percent of Americans believe that farmed animals deserve to be protected from abuse. The more that people are confronted with the ways that animals who are raised for food suffer—from the moment they're born until the moment they're killed—the more that people will start thinking about giving vegetarian meals a try. And then the factory farming industry will need a bigger bailout than the "Big Three."
-Dan
P.S. Sarah Palin should take a cue from our own "President Bush," whose turkey-pardoning this year really was a "mission accomplished."

Slaughter chickens Ryan Gosling The Notebook Lars and the Real Girl Fracture Murder By Numbers scald
What can I say about Ryan Gosling...brilliant, Academy Award-nominated actor, musician, man of compassion, extremely sexy, (in fact, I personally consider him to be one of Canada's finest exports)...
And just when I thought I couldn't adore him more, the marvelous Mr. Gosling goes and pens a letter to the head honcho of most KFCs in Canada, John Bitove, asking him to stop the worst abuses of chickens.
In his letter, the Lars and the Real Girl star, who's spoken up for his feathered friends before, writes, "The time is ripe to do the right thing. By adopting the basic recommendations made by PETA and scientific experts (including raising birds in a more natural manner and employing less cruel slaughter methods), you could dramatically improve the lives and deaths of chickens..."
Here's hoping Bitove listens to his handsome fellow countryman and makes sure KFCs in Canada lead the way and implement these simple changes to alleviate some of the suffering of these gentle birds.

P.S. Looks like I'll be watching The Notebook tonight now that I've got Gosling on the brain. Man, I love that movie. What's your favorite Ryan Gosling flick? Fracture, Lars and the Real Girl, Half Nelson, Murder by Numbers...so many great ones to choose from and way too many to list. Let me know what you think.

Deer Musicon Slaughter Venison Investigation
While the horrifying abuse of animals in factory farms and slaughterhouses is one of the most atrocious displays of cruelty these days, I just about lost it when I saw this new video that some PETA investigators passed along. You can actually see deer being pulled around by the ears, suffering as the door is slammed on their head, and slowly bleeding to death. Honestly, it's sickening.
The message is pretty simple. If you buy venison, you are supporting cruelty to animals. It's really that simple. Put any label (kosher, free range, organic, etc) you want on it, but at the end of the day, how could any compassionate person eat the body of a tortured animal for no good reason?
Act now by sending a letter to the owner of Musicon Farm, where this video was taken, and demand that he immediately enact welfare changes! Better yet, tell him to shut down this operation all together!
