Many of you probably already know that T.I. began serving his sentence for federal weapons charges last week. But what you may not know is that before reporting to prison he consulted our good friend Martha Stewart about how to pass the time in the big house.
It just so happens that shortly after Martha was released from jail, she narrated a PSA about the horrors of the fur industry, so we thought since T.I. sought advice from Martha maybe he'd want to follow in her footsteps and speak out against fur too by posing for our iconic "Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" campaign. Who wouldn't want to see that?!
So we wrote the rapper and let him know we understand he'll soon know what life is like "for the millions of minks, rabbits, and other animals who are confined to filthy sheds on fur farms. But unlike inmates who are freed when they finish their sentences, these animals are beaten, have their necks broken, are electrocuted, and are often skinned alive for their fur."
Hopefully T.I. will consider our offer, I mean how can he not after finding out how terribly animals suffer for fashion?! Now we just have to sit back and wait for his response ... with fingers crossed.
What do you think? Do you want T.I. to do a "Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" ad for us?
Eve Drops Mink, Picks Up Rumor September 14, 2007
Posted by Marta at September 14, 2007 2:35 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 2 ) | TrackBack"I once blew £3,000 on a mink coat. Back in the 'hood the fly girls always had mink coats...That coat made me feel special but I don't wear it now. It's nothing to do with animal rights—it's just that I have moved on. I think people should be able to wear what they want and I hate that the PETA people throw blood or paint over people wearing fur."
Alright, so it's not like Eve's gonna join the peta2 Street Team any time soon but it's great that she doesn't see suffering as a status symbol anymore. We dropped Ruff Ryder's first lady a letter paying her propers for her new enlightened outlook. We also sent her our video about fur hoping she'll see that when "people wear what they want" animals are caged, beaten, electrocuted, and skinned alive.
I have a feeling that once she has all the facts, Eve will follow in the fashion-forward footsteps of other world-class designers—including Tommy Hilfiger, Stella McCartney, Guess, Ralph Lauren, Marc Bouwer, and Eve's pal Gwen Stefani—who all know that faux is the only way to go.
And before I move on, I've gotta clear the air on this one: PETA has never ever EVER thrown paint on anyone wearing fur. I mean, come on—there are more effective ways to help animals than hiding in an alley with a bucket of paint, just hoping you'll cross paths someone who actually still wears fur.
