Many years back, I tried to make some side income by posting a homemade "Vegan Power!" t-shirt design on CafePress (still available here). I thought it was a fun way to show veggie pride and solidarity—but this story really brings "vegan power" to the next level ...
You see, a new animal rights organization in Australia called UPROAR (United Protection and Rescue Organisation for Animal Rights) is striving to show people that not only are vegans compassionate and sexy, but they can also kick some serious ass when they want to.
Four members of the group recently participated in the International Powerlifting Federation competition. In their words "It was a successful day where ignorant opinions about veganism such as 'you can't be strong without eating meat and other animal products' were put to shame."
Between the four of them, they won three 1st place spots, and one 2nd, in their respective weight categories. A member named Noah also took home the "best lifter" trophy, squatting 200 kilograms (440 pounds), bench pressing 170 kg (374 lbs.), and deadlifting 230 kg (506 lbs.)!
Check out some pictures of the veggie beefcakes in action below, compliments of VeganStrength.org!
