Protesting the Petland Bunny Killer August 18, 2009

Posted by Ryan at August 18, 2009 4:14 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 12 ) | TrackBack

Remember Elizabeth Carlisle? She was the Petland employee we reported on a little while back who proudly posted Facebook pictures of herself with rabbits she drowned while on the clock.

Well, her judgment day arrived, and of course PETA and local supporters were there to encourage prosecutors to punish Elizabeth to the fullest extent of the law.

The maximum penalty for each cruelty charge is six months in jail—totaling a year in prison if Carlisle is found guilty.

Fox 8 News is reporting that two peaceful protesters were even pushed by members of Carlisle's entourage as they left the building. Classy.

I don't know about you, but I'm tired of reading news stories about scumbags at pet stores torturing rabbits and other animals.

What would you say to Elizabeth if you saw her on the street?

Are The Pet Shop Boys Changing Their Name?! April 8, 2009

Posted by Shannon Phillips at April 8, 2009 3:52 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 3 ) | TrackBack

Remember when I wrote a very tongue-in-cheek blog about bands who might want to consider changing their names?

One of these bands, legendary brit-pop band the Pet Shop Boys, received a request from our friends at PETA Europe this week, asking the band to officially change their name to the Rescue Shelter Boys.

Rather than be offended by our request, the Pet Shop Boys were good sports and posted a note on the news section of their website that reads:

"The organisation PETA Europe, dedicated to establishing and protecting the rights of all animals, has written to Pet Shop Boys with a request they are unable to agree to but nonetheless think raises an issue worth thinking about."

Thanks for raising an important issue, boys! We think it's worth thinking about too. For every animal purchased from a breeder or a pet store, another animal is euthanized in a shelter—not to mention, animals purchased in pet stores are usually raised in puppy mills in filthy, unsanitary, and cramped conditions. Many of these animals suffer from behavioral and health issues, and can be extremely difficult to socialize.

If your family or friends are looking for a new companion, please check your local shelter! Your new furry family member will be very appreciative and you'll have a best friend for life.

Dita Von Teese...Meeeeowww! September 27, 2007

Posted by Patricia at September 27, 2007 1:46 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 0 ) | TrackBack

What's hotter than hot? The new ad that burlesque queen Dita Von Teese shot for us, that's what. Have you seen it yet? Holy cow, that woman is flawless. It's unbelievable. It should be a crime to look that good. I just knew that under all that glorious glamour was a heart of gold and sure enough I was right.

Dita, who's also a spokesperson for MAC Cosmetics Viva Glam campaign (in case you've been living under a rock or something and weren't aware), posed in a sexy pink and black negligee and fishnets for our new ABC campaign.

Like us, Dita believes that no one should buy animals from breeders or pet stores when millions of unwanted animals die every year in shelters because there aren't enough good homes for them. I could go on about this all day but instead, I'll let Dita school you on the rest.

Here are a few photos from the launch of Dita's new ad which took place at PETA's LA office this week.
