My favorite part of playing basketball, or any sport, is getting the opportunity to be competitive, and yeah I'm 'that guy' that's always talking trash on the court. I think its okay to talk trash since my nasty crossover snaps ankles left and right, not literally, and my jump-shot breaks hearts on every court I step on. If I were to compare myself to any active NBA player, I think I would go with NBA All-Star and Los Angeles Lakers forward, Ron Artest. Okay, so he's a lot better than I am but we do have something in common; we both aren't afraid to speak up for animals!

Spay Day is coming up on February 23, and Artest will reveal his new spay-and-neuter billboard today in L.A. at 8238 Beverly Blvd. (near Sweetzer Avenue). The first 20 people to arrive will receive coupons for free spay or neuter surgeries provided by the Sam Simon Foundation—a Los Angeles-area organization that runs a mobile clinic providing free spay and neuter surgeries and low-cost veterinary services.
If you have companion animals, please be sure to get 'em fixed. If you're considering sharing your life and home with an animal, remember that it's a lot of responsibility, so really think about it before you decide. Please don't buy from any pet store or breeder, especially since millions of dogs and cats are waiting in animal shelters for a family to take them home. Is your companion animal fixed?
NBA All-Star In peta2's Latest "Ink, Not Mink" Ad November 30, 2009
Posted by Larisa Proulx at November 30, 2009 4:22 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 1 ) | TrackBackIf you follow the NBA, like, at all, you've been watching the resurgence of the Phoenix Suns this season with a combination of awe & excitement. They haven't lost at home, they haven't scored less than 100 points in any of their 17 games, and they won a "statement game" against Boston on the road ... and right in the thick of it, as always, is Amar'e Stoudamire, the long-limbed power forward who's seen more dimes from Steve Nash than a parking meter outside the US Airways Center. Suns fans may love Amar'e for his big stat lines, but here at peta2, we love him even more for his big heart—the perennial NBA all-star has become the latest celebrity to speak out against the cruel fur industry as a part of peta2's Ink, Not Mink campaign. Check out his two different ads below:

Spring is in full swing, thank goodness! I am totally over cold weather and apparently so are all the wildlife around here, they're um, well, they're downright frisky. That's what happens when Spring rolls around, which makes it the perfect time to talk about spaying and neutering, and our brand new ABC (Animal Birth Control) ad starring Vanessa Carlton and her handsome canine companion, Victor.

I have to say that ad is pretty darn cute. And Victor is adorable! Vanessa and Victor want everyone to practice their ABC's because that's the best way to end animal homelessness. "The most well-adjusted and emotionally balanced dogs and cats are the mixed breeds found in shelters," says Carlton.
Vanessa joins NBA star Ron Artest and burlesque queen, Dita Von Teese in supporting our ABC campaign because they want you to know that millions of animals are euthanized in shelters every year because there aren't enough good homes for them. And when you buy a dog or a cat from a breeder or a pet store, it kills a shelter animal's chance for adoption.
Adds Carlton, "Bottom line: Always go to a shelter first. Personally, I think spaying and neutering should be an enforced law." We agree! Thanks to our friends at CosmoGirl.com who are helping us launch the ad!
