Have You Seen the New "Earthlings" Trailer? May 19, 2009

Posted by Ryan at May 19, 2009 9:32 AM | Permalink | Comments ( 11 ) | TrackBack

When Joaquin Phoenix was asked how he felt about narrating the film, he was quoted as saying "Of all the films I have ever made, this is the one that gets people talking the most. For every one person who sees Earthlings, they will tell three."

This film changes lives forever. It has influenced stars from Ellen Degeneres to NHL hockey star Georges Laraque to stop eating animals, and shows—in great detail—how animals are abused when raised and killed for food, clothing, experimentation, entertainment, and every other industry. Indeed, it is the single most all-encompassing film about animal rights ever made.

Think I'm over-hyping it? Check out this brand-new trailer, and you'll see what I mean!

NOTE: This trailer shows gruesome footage of violence towards animals. You have been warned.

Powerful stuff, eh?

Not surprisingly, Earthlings is the movie that students of all ages want to screen at their schools more than any other. For example, the student group at California State University - Long Beach recently held a screening on campus, and even got the film's director to answer questions afterwards!

It's no secret to anyone in peta2 that Marta and I are big Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana fans. Yeah, I'll admit it—we're a little older than the average Miley fan, especially since we don't have kids, but that girl is so charismatic and fun, you can't help but be drawn to her.

Oh, and she's a huge animal lover, too, in case you hadn't heard. There are always stories and photos of Miley stopping on the side of the road to rescue strays. So we weren't one bit surprised when we found out that she had rescued some chickens from the set of her new flick, Hannah Montana: The Movie.

Apparently, Miley fell in love with one of the chickens on the movie set and decided to take her and several others home because, according to the article, she thought "they were sad to be working." (Awww, of course they were—animals aren't actors!) The article also alludes to the fact that she may be asked to go naked for one of our campaigns—um, no. She's underage, for goodness' sake! Not that we wouldn't LOVE for her to star in any ad for peta2—Miley, in case you're reading this, we think you'd make a beautiful "Angel for Animals"!

When we find out about celebs who do nice things for animals, we like to acknowledge it, so peta2 is giving Miley Cyrus our 'Compassionate Citizen' Award and sending her some yummy vegan chocolates.

Here's hoping that her love of chickens will make her rethink eating them.

P.S. Marta and I caught a matinee on Sunday—loved it! We knew our beloved Hannah Montana would not let us down.

Marley & Me hits theaters on Christmas day and is sure to be a blockbuster. Who can resist Jennifer Aniston (love her!) and Owen Wilson? And I'm thrilled to report that the movie's message is a great one for dogs!

When we found out that John Grogan's best seller Marley & Me was being made into a movie we weren't entirely sure what the outcome would be. We quickly wrote to Fox 2000—the studio distributing the movie—asking them to tweak the story so that Marley was adopted from a rescue group instead of being purchased from a breeder. And even though it's based on a true story about Grogan's real-life dog, Marley, that's exactly what they did!

If you're not familiar with the story, Grogan (Wilson) and his wife Jenny (Aniston) adopt an adorable puppy who proves to be a much bigger handful than most puppies, doing all sorts of outrageous things like shredding furniture and knocking things over. But rather than punishing him or dumping him, they help him gets lots of excercise and shower him with love.

The message of the film is that through all the ups and downs and wild behavior, Marley is a life-long member of the family, which of course is how it should be for all dogs. So thanks to Grogan, the director, and Fox 2000 for making a movie we're happy to give two paws up!
