Anti-Flag's "Meat's Not Green" Ad and Contest! June 9, 2009

Posted by Shannon Phillips at June 9, 2009 11:25 AM | Permalink | Comments ( 195 ) | TrackBack

"You've gotta die, gotta die, gotta die for your government?" These words came blaring out of my friend's speakers like nothing I had ever heard before. It was loud, it was punk, it was in your face, and I really liked it. Over a decade later, and Anti-Flag is still at it—churning out political punk rock with new twists, album after album.

Not only has Anti-Flag stayed true to their punk sound over the years, but they've also been active in speaking up for animals since the beginning. After multiple interviews with peta2, allowing us to go on tour with them, and posing in a pro-vegetarian ad, the band is back in a new ad with the tagline "Meat Destroys The Environment" to assist with our ongoing Meat's Not Green campaign. Check it out below ...

Today is a great day. Not only did I get to show you our new Anti-Flag ad, but I get to tell you that the band's new album, The People or the Gun hits stores today, and trust me when I tell you that it's no less than awesome!

Itching to get your hands on a copy of The People or the Gun? Just leave us a comment! Really, it's just that easy. Just comment and let us know your favorite Anti-Flag show memory, your favorite song, what you're looking forward to most on Warped Tour—anything! Five winners will be chosen at random to receive a CD. Entries must be received by June 23 and winners will be notified by July 1.

Ghent, Belgium, Starts Saving Animals! May 20, 2009

Everyone knows that the number one thing you can do to fight global warming and help the environment is to go vegetarian right?

In an attempt to shrink its carbon footprint, a town named Ghent, in Belgium, is taking it seriously—they've decided to go vegetarian for one day a week! They'll get things started with their city employees and then spread the good behavior on to the students in their schools come September.

Instead of just feeling bad that meat production leads to more greenhouse-gas emissions than all the vehicles with engines in the world combined, this town has decided to act—and that's what change is made of. By doing this, countless animals will be spared intense suffering on factory farms only to end up on someone's plate. I bet a whole lot of these Ghent residents will be taking to veggie meals more than once a week when they realize how much better they feel without eating dead animals.

Delighted at this news, PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk has written some letters of encouragement to a few cities in the United States in an effort to nudge them forward in the fight against climate change. This is such a simple, lifesaving step—why would anyone not agree?

Care about the planet? Check out the many reasons why "meat's not green" and go vegetarian already!

Stay loud!

Meat's Not Green Week April 20, 2009

Posted by Pulin Modi at April 20, 2009 12:25 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 11 ) | TrackBack

Earth Day is this Wednesday so let's all try to take some extra steps to speak out for animals and the environment this whole week, OK? Let's spread the word about why meat's not green online, at school, and even sitting down for a meal with your family.

Here are some pictures to inspire you into action!

Superstar college student, Kirby

peta2 Assistant Street Team Coordinator, Jackie

Street Teamer named Tuesday Michaela Khristine Kellogg
(and I thought I have a unique name!)

How do you plan to spread the word about the devastating impact the meat industry has on the planet? At the very least, put up some flyers and share the Meat's Not Green page on Facebook, will you?

On Tour with Rise Against February 27, 2009

Posted by Rachel-O at February 27, 2009 9:01 AM | Permalink | Comments ( 5 ) | TrackBack

Sarah from peta2 UK has a guest blog since she's out on tour with Rise Against. Have you been out to any of the shows? I wish I was there, but I'll have to wait til they get to the US!
-Rachel

My tabling wizard and I, Andy, hit up a couple of dates with Rise Against this week, spreading the message about peta2's latest campaign Meat's Not Green.

First stop was Liverpool, where Street Teamer James came down to help hand out some leaflets at the beginning of the night to all those eager fans queuing to get through the doors.

Pat from Anti-Flag came and hung out by the table for a bit where he signed some Vegetarian Starter Kits for some very excited fans!

After Liverpool it was over to Leeds, where we stopped off at Little Tokyo for some amazing vegan food. Check out these 'Chickenless Legs' and some yummy spring rolls we had to eat ...

Next stop is Birmingham!

P.S. For all of your meat eating "environmentalist" friends, you should let them know about this article that talks about reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

In Cali with the Taste of Chaos Tour February 20, 2009

Posted by Rachel-O at February 20, 2009 12:52 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 8 ) | TrackBack

Hey there!

Your dedicated peta2 Road Warriors have been busting through California during the first few days of the Rockstar Taste of Chaos Tour spreading the word of the disastrous effects the factory farming industry is having on our planet. Find out more information and how you can help here.

This year's lineup for TOC includes peta2 friends Thursday, Bring Me The Horizon and Pierce The Veil and will travel across the US and Canada until early April. We've met some awesome kids so far on this tour and we look forward to meeting many more! So make sure to come out and say hi and sign our "Meat's Not Green" petition.

Throughout the first few dates of the tour, we've of course made time to hit up delicious vegan restaurants in California. For instance, we went to Native Foods in Los Angeles for some yummy vegan nachos and vegan chicken sandwiches.

Well that's it for us for now. Come see us at your hometown's TOC show (check out the dates on our MySpace page)! Keep loving and caring for animals!

Until next time ...

Keep rockin'!

Joey

Sarah from peta2 UK is getting ready to spend some time out on the Rise Against tour in the UK. Although I'm far beyond jealous that she gets to meet all of you and watch one of the best bands on the planet night after night, I'm looking forward to have her spread the Meat's Not Green message to thousands of people! Here's what she has to say about that ... -Pulin

This weekend, Rise Against start their much anticipated UK tour. I can't tell you how excited I am—Rise Against are up there in my top favourite bands! And what's even more exciting (than my excitement—eeek!) is that I'm going to get to spread the word about why Meat's Not Green on some of their tour dates!

These are the dates I'll be at repping it at for peta2 UK:
Feb 23 Liverpool @ Academy
Feb 24 Leeds @ University of Leeds
Feb 26 Birmingham @ Academy
Feb 27 Manchester @ Academy

So—who's going to be at what date?!

Dirty Cars With A Message! January 7, 2009

Posted by Rachel-O at January 7, 2009 12:20 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 5 ) | TrackBack

Our Street Teamers are awesome! Seriously—rain, snow, dirt—nothing stops them! Check out some of the pics we've received, where they write animal rights messages on their cars, from our Dirty Car mission:

One of our many obviously awesome missions that earn you points, just for doing small things for helping animals and spreading the animal rights message. You can earn peta2 laminates, animal rights t-shirts, DVDs, and more! And everything is free. You probably do most of this stuff anyway, so just join already, geez.

Stay loud!

Free Stuff Friday: Meat's Not Green Tote Bags! December 18, 2008

Posted by Patricia at December 18, 2008 6:12 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 227 ) | TrackBack

One of my favorite peta2 campaigns is "Meat's Not Green" for lots of reasons—the biggest being that I'm tired of listening to people talk about recycling and changing light bulbs and driving hybrids while chewing on a chicken sandwich. Newsflash...you're not an environmentalist if you still eat animals. Plain and simple.

As the UN points out, the number one cause of global warming is raising animals for meat. Everyone needs to get that message loud and clear, and we want you to help us spread the word. So this week's Free Stuff Friday is for the "Meat's Not Green" tote bag.

Meat%27s_Not_Green_tote.jpg

They're organic cotton canvas and big enough to hold a bunch of groceries, books, clothes, whatever you want to cram in there. Plus, these babies are machine washable in case you're concerned about that sort of thing.

Want to be one of five lucky winners? Then comment below with your thoughts about why you can't be a meat-eating environmentalist.

This contest ends January 2, 2009 and the winners will be chosen and notified by January 6, 2009.

Just so you know...by commenting here, we're taking that as acknowledgment that you've read and agreed to our privacy policy.

Also by commenting, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions.

Good luck!

peta2 Wants You To Get Dirty! November 10, 2008

Posted by Rachel-O at November 10, 2008 10:40 AM | Permalink | Comments ( 62 ) | TrackBack

We've all seen it. Whether we're driving six hours to a concert, or driving to a friends house: a dirty car with either a ridiculously lewd or hilarious thing that catches everyone's attention, written in the dirt, mud, snow, or whatever it may be covering the windows and paint of a car.

Never one to a miss a chance to get the word out, we want you to use this opportunity to speak up for animals! Who likes washing their car anyway?

It's pretty easy, instead of writing "Wash Me", "I'm Dirty" or something else totally unoriginal like that, try "Meat's Not Green!" and/or peta2.com and send us a picture!

You'll get 500 points for sending it in to us at StreetTeam@peta2.com, and we'll put your pictures up on our Flickr account! Oh yeah, and we'll think you're awesome.

Think about it as a bumper sticker, but obviously much, much cooler.

Disclaimer: Of course, only do this to your own car. We want to help animals, not get anyone in trouble!

Stay Loud!-Rachel
