PETA2 Daily Blog

You Are In The Newspaper! September 30, 2008

Posted by Pulin Modi at September 30, 2008 9:10 AM | Permalink | Comments ( 9 ) | TrackBack

If you went to a concert from May through August of this year, you probably signed the peta2 petition for the Woof campaign. Thank you for that—you're helping to make headlines!

I know sometimes your lazy, pessimistic friends ask you what good it'll do to sign a petition at a show or online. Well, let me tell you something—it does a lot! We sent every single one of those petitions from Warped Tour, Mayhem Festival, and other shows to Hormel's corporate headquarters last week. You can read the press release here. This was in response to an investigation which found truly terrifying abuse of animals at an Iowa pig factory farm which supplies piglets who are raised and killed for Hormel products. If you haven't seen it yet, you should look at this.

Along with sending the petitions to Hormel and other meat companies, we explained that 275,000 of you took the time to ask for pigs to be given better protection. Considering it's illegal to be cruel to a dog, why would it be ok to abuse a pig who suffers just the same?

I just wanted to let everyone know that the petitions became a top news story in the local paper of Hormel's hometown of Austin, Minnesota! That means that their corporate employees are finding it that much more difficult to justify the cruelty seen in this video, and we're really bringing the pressure against companies! It also goes to show that people do care about animals and want to stop cruelty to animals. Read the full news article here.

Thank you all! Now go brag to your parents, friends, and family that you're helping make a difference!

-Pulin

What Did You Do This Summer? September 3, 2008

Posted by Pulin Modi at September 3, 2008 11:17 AM | Permalink | Comments ( 10 ) | TrackBack

In the US, we generally mark the end of summer with Labor Day weekend. So considering it's back to school and all that, I wanted to let you know some highlights from the peta2 and peta2 UK staff. I would love to hear what you enjoyed the most about the summer.

Two highlights from my summer: getting to spend time with my sister at PETA (I mention this a lot, don't I?), and wearing a skeleton costume to protest Donna Karan!
-Elizabeth

The best thing that happened this summer was meeting all you guys at Glastonbury Festival, T in the Park, Get Loaded in the Park, Rip Curl Boardmasters, NASS, VFest and Give it a Name. Also seeing Seasick Steve at Glastonbury made it for me.
-Martin

This might seem like a small thing, but it made me so happy: Convincing my six-year-old niece (whom I adore to no end) to try vegan chicken on our family vacation. She loved it, wanted more, and even shouted "I LOVE VEGETARIAN MEAT!!!!!!!" Adorable, right?
-Marta

This was a great summer for me! I got to give KFC "the bird" in Egypt! And, I got to see my favorite band, Radiohead (complete with veg lead singer, Thom Yorke performing live in the middle of a thunderstorm!) It was madness! Madness, I say!
-Ryan

My highlight this summer was visiting an animal sanctuary. I finally got to kiss a pig, and one of them even nuzzled up to me! It was a dream come true—literally. Okay, so maybe it wasn't exactly in the summer—it was in May, but it's pretty much the highlight of my life, so there. A real summer highlight? Getting to sweat it out and meet some of you guys at Warped Tour and Mayhem Festival this year—and seeing huge tough guys sign our petition to help pigs, definitely.
-Rachel

So what was the highlight (or highlights) of your summer, everyone? I had so many that I just wrote my own blog about it here. Here's your chance to brag, though.

-Pulin

Definitely Click On This August 6, 2008

Posted by Marta at August 6, 2008 3:09 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 8 ) | TrackBack

OK, thanks for clicking the link that lead to this blog. Now take a second to read on and see what other cool things can happen when you interact with peta2.com by clicking links, reading blogs, and doing other fun computer things like that. :)

First things first, you can win two tickets to the Mayhem Festival and get a chance to see Slipknot, Disturbed, Underoath, and Five Finger Death Punch, not to mention plenty of others (check the full lineup here!). Just by hanging out with peta2 online you could find yourself at the Mayhem date of your choice with a friend, for free! How's that sound? Just check out Sarah Sparks and her friend, who recently stopped by the peta2 booth to tell us they had won tickets online and were excited to be at such a great show for free, and we were excited to meet them!

We also just had the chance to meet one of our Cutest Vegetarian Alive winners this year, Kelly Anderson, who entered our contest online and was announced as the winner way back in April—congratulations! The cutest thing about Kelly is her desire to work so hard to help animals on factory farms. Here she is at the Mayhem Festival collecting signatures for our woof petition. Thank you Kelly for working so hard for animals.

You see, just by keeping regular contact with peta2 you can end up attending free concerts or getting the opportunity to help us help animals one day, if you haven't signed up for our e-news yet you should get on that, or else how will you know what awesome things are coming your way? Thanks a lot and we hope to hear from you soon!

Heavy Metal and Animal Rights: Perfect Together July 23, 2008

Posted by Marta at July 23, 2008 2:53 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 4 ) | TrackBack

So here we are, 10 shows into this spectacle known throughout the land as the Rockstar Mayhem Festival, and we've begun to notice some common questions/remarks we're receiving. I think it's time now to address one of them here on this blog so everybody knows the answer to it :). Several times a day we're asked, "So how has this tour been for you guys? Are kids being friendly and playing nice with peta2?" Let me tell you, we appreciate your concern, but I'd also like to remind everyone that we're all against cruelty to animals aren't we?

No matter your music of choice, or how hard you can bang your head or pump your fist, I'm sure you'd agree that no pig should be castrated without pain killers or kept in tiny crates with no room to even turn around, right? I mean, if you thought metal kids might not care as much about animals as any other kids, please let this picture display all the eager people trying to get in and sign our petition recently in Phoenix, AZ:

We enjoyed a nice steady line of friendly folks across the front of our booth all day long, and let me tell you, if they weren't signing our petition it's because they were waiting in line to get a stab at it. It always brings a smile to peta2's face when we see that people love helping animals and will even wait in line to do so! Just look at these fine folks:

Thanks for everything, now go win some tickets so you can stop by our booth and help pigs too!

The Mayhem Begins! July 10, 2008

Posted by Marta at July 10, 2008 4:09 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 4 ) | TrackBack

Who says the heavy metal/hardcore crowd can't be a compassionate, caring bunch? Our WOOF! petition added almost 2,700 new names to it on the first day of the Rockstar Mayhem Festival, filling peta2 with joy and happiness! If you've got plans to join the fun in seeing Slipknot, Disturbed, Dragonforce, and the whole bunch later this summer, be on the lookout for this tent:

When you see that booth setup, get ready to help some animals!! Be sure to stop in, sign our petition, grab a sticker and a free DVD, and tell all your friends to do the same! Didn't get your tickets yet? You can win them here. Did I mention the free DVD contains video clips with Lamb of God and As I Lay Dying? Just look at all these people gathering around to get their hands on it:

We'll see you soon, and don't forget to bring the mayhem!

Introducing the WOOF!mobile July 7, 2008

Posted by Marta at July 7, 2008 4:55 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 9 ) | TrackBack

Look! On the interstate! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's.....it's......it's.....

The WOOF!mobile!

That's right ladies and gents, I know you simply can't believe what you're seeing, but this big bad bruiser is the newest model in the line of peta2 tour vehicles. :) Ain't she a beauty indeed?

Thanks to some of our fabulous members (who offer up the most wonderful of items as donations for us) we are now navigating our way across the country alongside the Mayhem Festival in this piece of automobile artwork! So if you plan on attending the Mayhem Fest when it hits your town, be on the lookout for us pulling up in style.

And, for those unlucky souls missing out on the tour this summer, pull up a lawnchair alongside your nearest interstate highway and give us a great big wave and a smile as we roll on down the road—that's our favorite! This thing has already been a hit with fellow motorists offering up plenty of compliments; we can't wait to see all your eyes bug out when you see her in real life as well!

WOOF!
