http://blog.peta2.com/Tweetbird.jpgWho's serving detention for animal abuse? Read on to see how you can fight back against bullies and speak up for the little guys on Twitter!

Bully #1: TexasTech
These bullies have been caught red-handed! Participants in a training course at Texas Tech shove hard plastic tubes down cats' windpipes and repeatedly stab them in the chest with needles before killing them!
How to help: Post the following to your Twitter account: Hey, @TexasTech! Scratch your cruel training procedures on cats, and adopt non-animal alternatives! http://ow.ly/pjHb

Bully #2: Ross University
Class isn't the only thing they've been cutting at Ross University. Students have been forced to cut the nerves in donkeys' toes, sever their ligaments, surgically puncture their abdomens, and slice their tracheas.
How to help: Post a message on Twitter by clicking here.

Bully #3: Marquette University
College is a time for experimentation—but not on animals. A Marquette University faculty member bashes turtles over the head with a hammer and saws into their shells for a classroom experiment!
How to help: Tweet this: You've been nailed, @MarquetteU! Stop bashing turtles in the head with hammers, NOW!

Bully #4: Bucknell University
Pupils should be using their brains at school, not a hamster's. Bucknell University faculty members drill holes into the skulls of hamsters in sexual-reproduction experiments!
How to help: Spread the word on Twitter by posting the following: Did u know that @BucknellU faculty members drill holes into the skulls of live hamsters? Tell 'em 2 stop, & pass along! http://ow.ly/pjJ2

So how 'bout it, Twitterers? You gonna teach these schools a lesson? Complete all four assignments to earn an A+!

Classes Begin--Bad News for Students and Animals September 3, 2009

Yes, it's that dreaded time of the year again. The pools are starting to close, and the commercials are running 24/7 advertising 10-cent file folders. Classes are back in session.

Of course, as unbearable as those commercials are, it hardly compares to the abuse animals will face at the hands of researchers and professors armed with scalpels and needles.

Take these three examples:

  • At Marquette University, instructors bash the heads of turtles with hammers. These a-holes then slice a hole into their shells so that students can observe the animal's heart beat. MU students have gathered over 1,200 petition signatures against this kind of cruelty, and the school still hasn't changed their policies. WTF MU?
  • At Saginaw Valley State University, rats are deprived of food in order to train them to press a lever to receive a food pellet. Then the rats are killed by asphyxiation. All this, while there are humane, non-animal methods available to replace these cruel and deadly experiments.
  • And finally, at Bucknell University, Prof. Owen Floody drills holes into the skulls of female hamsters, damaging their brains, and observing the injuries' effects on the hamsters' sexual behavior. The animals are killed at the end of the experiments, and their brains are dissected. You can give Bucknell a piece of your mind by clicking here!

Fighting for Alternatives to Dissection at Marquette! April 5, 2009

Written by Danika Rahn, a student at Marquette University

I am helping to lead a campaign to implement a Student Choice Policy at Marquette University regarding classes that use unnecessary animal experiments. I wanted to help with the campaign because the root of human kindness is being an advocate for living beings other than us. The issue of performing cruel tests on animals is devastating to me, because it is outdated and unnecessary.

With the help of close friends and a peta2 crew of four members, we have collected over 1,200 petition signatures on campus—more than 10% of the student population!

The petitions are guiding a piece of legislation in the Marquette Student Government that will implement a Student Choice Policy in all undergraduate courses, giving students a written, verbalized choice of being exempted from unnecessary animal testing in class. I hope to be an advocate for giving Marquette students a choice in whether or not they want a more educational, moral alternative to ineffective experiments.
