My Boyfriend's Tombstone January 15, 2008

One of the best things about working for PETA is that something surprises me on a daily basis. Like the time I walked into the restroom and saw a giant carrot washing her hands. Or the time I got to dress up as a giant Nugget.

The latest thing to surprise me was receiving an email from Pulin with a pic of my boyfriend's tombstone. Yep, you heard me right...my boyfriend's tombstone.

Here's the back story: PETA purchased the gravesite next to Colonel Sanders' in a cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky. We then put up a tombstone with Matt's name inscribed on it along with a poem.

What they didn't know was that the first letter of each line of the poem spelled out "KFC Tortures Birds"! That is until we painted it red...

Then the jig was up. We had to take the tombstone down, but not before PETA got a bunch of press about the grave, bringing attention to the cruel way KFC treats its chickens. All in all it was just another day at PETA.

P.S. Matt is alive and well.

KFC Is Not Going To Like This At All November 19, 2007

Check it out! This is awesome! We just unveiled our brand-new headquarters for the international Kentucky Fried Cruelty campaign on Saturday in Louisville—directly across the street from a noted KFC flagship or "vision" store. For those of you who don't know, KFC is actually based in Louisville, Kentucky, and our Senior Campaigner, Lindsay moved there to take the campaign to the corporation's doorstep!

Attendees at the grand opening of our new office received free samples of delicious faux fried chicken served by bikini-clad beauties who also lead a protest at the KFC across the street afterward. The 78-square-foot storefront window of the new headquarters features a graphic banner decrying KFC's abuses as well as an around-the-clock loop of factory-farming and slaughterhouse video footage taken inside KFC's suppliers. Also on display will be samples of the many celebrity letters and advertisements in support of PETA's campaign and photos of protests against KFC's abusive farming and slaughter practices from around the world.

I love this quote from Lindsay. "They say, 'Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.' KFC's blatant disregard for animal welfare is a stain on Louisville's reputation, and there's no better place to try to change that than in KFC's own back yard."

Make sure you join the peta2 Street Team for updates on how you can help with this exciting campaign and many others around the world!

-Pulin

Running for Chickens? October 22, 2007

Now I don't know about you, but going out running for 13.1 miles is not my idea of a fun way to spend a Sunday morning. However, 13 miles is a piece of vegan cake for some people, especially when running to educate others. PETA's very own Nicole and Lindsay sweated it up yesterday in a half marathon in Louisville, Kentucky (headquarters of none other than KFC) to spread the message of KFC's cruelty.

Donning yellow sports bras and shorts, Lindsay and Nicole caused quite a stir for the 2 hours and 21 minutes they ran with messages such as "Boycott KFC" and "KFC Tortures Chicks" written on themselves. Check it out:

They wanted to spread the message that no one should support a company that supports cruelty to animals. Click here to learn more about KFC, and if you haven't yet, be sure to check out our "Super Chick Sisters" game.

Yay for Lindsay and Nicole! You girls rock!

Marta

PS - I spent the last few days at a conference with Pulin in Austin, and he would just not stop talking about Lindsay and Nicole and how cute they must look in their "tiny yellow outfits" (his words). I prefer Zach Braff sporting tiny yellow scrubs myself (jk), but to each his/her own.
