Los Angeles People, Help Dogs And Cats January 31, 2008

The Los Angeles City Council has a meeting tomorrow morning (Friday, February 1st) to discuss a historic ordinance that would require virtually all dogs and cats in Los Angeles to be spayed or neutered. If you happen to live in L.A. and can help voice your support for mandatory spaying and neutering of all dogs and cats, please drop some encouragement your council member's way. You can find his or her phone number at http://www.lacity.org/council.htm. Just let the council member know that you support the spay-neuter ordinance, and you're hoping they will too. You can also attend the meeting to show your support.

If you don't live in L.A., you can still help raise awareness about the importance of spaying and neutering animals by checking out this page and forwarding the hilarious videos to everyone you know or streaming them on your MySpace page.

Party Like A Vegan December 13, 2007

Posted by Marta at December 13, 2007 11:15 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 3 ) | TrackBack

The last week has shown us, the road crew, the true definition of a vegan party. By the end of the week, we realized that there are five steps to party like a rockstar vegan.

Step 1: Eat like a champ. We had the opportunity to chow down on some amazing treats in Los Angeles. What we were most stoked on was the vegan ding-dongs!

As usual, we got some amazing 'real' food as well. We were told to go to the restaurant Cafe Flore and the place ruled...

Step 2: Hang out with sweet bands like Between the Buried and Me.

Step 3: Visit tourist traps. We get to see all the awesome places like behind the scenes of Universal Studios.

Step 4: Participate in a demo against dirty fur hags like the Trollsen twins. We had the chance to help with the campaign launch against the Trollsen twins in Hollywood on Tuesday and quite a few people expressed why wearing animal skin isn't attractive.

Finally, Step 5: Don't run out of gas!

peta2's Take Action Conference in LA! May 14, 2007

Posted by Marta at May 14, 2007 4:24 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 1 ) | TrackBack

I would like to start off this blog by saying that in the last three days I have flown to and from Los Angeles, seen my entire family (including my adorable nieces and nephew), spoke at the peta2 Take Action Conference at UCLA, went out to dinner with John Feldmann (you know, the genius behind "Free Me" and Goldfinger's frontman), and was forced to spend an unfortunately large quantity of time with Pulin in airports/airplanes. I know, pity me.

So anyway, Saturday was our second-ever Take Action Conference, and it was pretty sweet. A bunch of Street Teamers came out and learned from peta2 staffers how they can help animals through outreach, on their campus, and online. Check out a group shot below (peta2 staffers are in the peta2 shirts! And yup, I'm the third from the left.)

The highlight of the conference for me was seeing John Feldmann perform "Free Me." He's such an amazing guy and even did a Q & A after he performed. Sorry for the poor quality of the picture!

After the conference, a bunch of us went out to a delicious vegan dinner at Madeleine Bistro with John, his wife Amy, and his adorable son Julian. And yes, we were all facing the sidewalk when we ate! Didn't you hear it's the cool new way to eat?

Check out the absolutely mouth-watering vegan chocolate soufflé with soy vanilla ice cream that Ryan and I devoured for dessert (notice that I couldn't even wait to take a bite before Ryan snapped a picture - a chunk is missing):

All in all, it was an awesome day, and I can't wait to see all the great things the Street Teamers I met are doing for animals!
