Human Life v. Animal Life August 26, 2008

Posted by Pulin Modi at August 26, 2008 12:47 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 7 ) | TrackBack

When it comes to the suffering of humans and non-human animals, we all deserve to live out our lives in peace. It's all connected, so when any individual or group is oppressed, we all are. Animals in slaughterhouses, laboratories, and elsewhere around the world need your voice to defend their lives. Will you take action?

PETA's President, Ingrid Newkirk, explains this all a bit more in this video, so take a look.

'I Am An Animal,' The Documentary Is Out On DVD! January 15, 2008

Posted by Pulin Modi at January 15, 2008 10:00 AM | Permalink | Comments ( 2 ) | TrackBack

Many of you saw the HBO documentary about PETA (you know, peta2's mom) and our president Ingrid Newkirk in the last couple of months. Come on, I know you did because we got tons of emails and posts on the message boards saying that you sat down with your friends and family and found the whole story very inspiring. Exactly what we were hoping to hear you say! Videos are a very powerful way to each people with our message and we're really proud of this one. What was your favorite part? I can't pick just one favorite for me, it was all so great.

So the DVD is finally out for anyone who didn't get to see it. I know, not everyone has HBO. I mean, if you are like me, you might barely have a working television at all. Anyway, I can't tell you how excited I was to see I Am An Animal: The Story of Ingrid Newkirk and PETA. The HBO crew and our staff did such a fantastic job. Creeps who make money by killing animals really hated it so you know that means it's good news for our side of the fight in the struggle for animal rights. I'd really love to hear more feedback if you have something to say about it once you see the film.

I am for sure going to buy a copy to watch again and show it to my parents and bro and friends. Maybe you want to do the same? It's an interesting documentary complete with stories of the organization's early days, amazing protests around the globe, and some insight into the work we do to help dogs suffering in our local community. (And at the very least, it's good to watch because you can spot my face on a poster in the background of one of the scenes. Personally, I think it's worth buying for that reason alone. Ha!)

So the DVD looks like this and you can buy it at the PETA Catalog online. If you can show it to people in one of your classes, I'd love you for it and most likely give you points for the Street Team, too.

Who Watched "I Am an Animal" Last Night? November 20, 2007

Posted by Marta at November 20, 2007 2:24 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 9 ) | TrackBack

I certainly did! I'd been looking forward to watching HBO's I Am an Animal: The Story of Ingrid Newkirk and PETA since I first saw cameras around the office back when I was interning. Lara had a viewing party at her apartment, so a bunch of us got together with snacks and drinks in hand to tune in. You can imagine that there were certainly a lot of "Hey, there's Jason!" types of comments floating around.

Anyway, the documentary did not disappoint. Anyone who watched was able to catch a glimpse of what it's like to be Ingrid and what she goes through on a daily basis. I don't want to give anything away for those of you who haven't seen it yet, but the movie definitely gave me an extra dose of inspiration—I hope it caused those of you who saw it to feel the same way. We've already heard from many of you, and the resounding response is that your respect has only increased for Ingrid and PETA, and we're really happy to hear that!

One of the parts of the film I found to be really heart-wrenching was our undercover investigation into a Butterball Turkey Plant. I'd seen the investigation footage before, but it's always horrifying to watch and hear about what's happening to these animals. Not only that, I could never imagine having the courage and strength it takes to be an undercover investigator. People who conduct our undercover investigations have to mask any empathy they have for animals in order to get footage to show people what is really happening to animals. In honor of the 50,000 birds killed daily at the turkey plant investigated and the brave folks who went undercover to expose the cruelty, please watch our Butterball investigation and pass it along to your family and friends before Thanksgiving.

If you watched the documentary, what did you think of it? And if not, are you planning on checking it out? Hint: The correct answer is yes.

Marta

Ingrid Newkirk to K-Fed: "Don't Forget About the Dogs!" October 5, 2007

Here's a sentence I never thought I'd write...yesterday PETA president Ingrid Newkirk sent a letter to Kevin Federline on behalf of the dogs Britney Spears has collected over the years.

I'm sure you've all seen the numerous shots of Britney carting her latest "purchase", London, around with her as if he were a living handbag. Since it appears she hasn't been taking very good care of her children (or herself based on...well, her appearance, her car accidents, numerous compromising photos, oh, there's just too much to mention), and since the LA chapter of the SPCA has already investigated her for failing to provide veterinary care for London after he was stepped on and suffered a broken leg, we think it's in his best interest to get the heck out of there too. And since the court feels Kevin's better suited to care for their children, we've asked he pursue custody of the animals as well.

No word yet from K-Fed but we're really hoping he decides to rescue them cause I can't imagine what life is like for them at Britney's house. I wouldn't even want to hazard a guess as to what's going on over there.

xox
