You People Really Love Nugget April 2, 2008

Posted by Pulin Modi at April 2, 2008 2:54 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 16 ) | TrackBack

Ok, ok, ok! Some of you figured it out, but I fear I may have scarred many others of you for eternity. Yesterday was April Fool's Day, so the retirement of our dear Nugget mascot was all just a big hoax. (So was the blog about human hair fur coats). Yep, as much as evil animal abusing companies would love to see this superstar out of the battle, he's not going away. It was all a little joke! You really think we'd let that cute chick stop enlightening and inspiring people around the world into action? Heck no!

If you ever see peta2 promoting a mascot named Lily the Llama or Donny The Donkey (both respectable animals, of course), you'll probably also see me handing in my letter of resignation. Honestly, that's just bananas.

Anyway dudes and dudettes, back by popular demand (although he never really left)... here's Nugget! (applause)...

Win a Fancy "I Am Not a Nugget" Tank! January 23, 2008

Posted by Ashleigh at January 23, 2008 4:35 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 118 ) | TrackBack

Calling all you fashion-forward animal-loving ladies! We're giving away three of our fabulous "I Am Not a Nugget" tank tops!

nugget%20tank.jpg

Chickens make up more than 96% of all land animals raised for food, yet they are NOT protected under the Humane Slaughter Act—which means that many chickens have their throats slit while they are still conscious and some are scalded to death in defeathering tanks (Take a look at our new KFC investigation for more info.).

Well guess what? Chickens are not nuggets, and neither are you! So stand proud and declare "I Am Not a Nugget" with one of our sweet tank tops!

And while you're at it, send this letter to government officials asking them to protect chickens under the Humane Slaughter Act.

To win, comment below with your tank size (S, M, L) and why chickens are NOT nuggets.

The contest ends on February 6, 2008, and winners will be chosen and notified by February 13, 2008.

Just so you know . . . by commenting here, we're taking that as acknowledgment that you've read and agreed to our privacy policy.

Welcome to the Punk Show! December 3, 2007

Here's a check-in from Paul (a.k.a. Paulie to me) who's out and about busting his ass getting sign-ups for our "I Am Not A Nugget" campaign. Tell us what's new on the road, Paulie...

The Agonist tour is over for us and we would like to thank them greatly for letting us come out on tour with them. We got over 1000 people to sign our petition to help animals in slaughterhouses.

On our way to San Francisco to table Winter Fresh Fest, we stopped by Salt Lake City to see MXPX play at the University of Utah. We also talked to hundreds of students and got them to sign our petition, too.

After the show we got the chance to talk to MXPX and they were more then happy to sign our petition to help out chickens. They even signed a copy of their new CD, Secret Weapon, for one of you luckies. So to win this CD, all you gotta do is leave a comment with your favorite animal and the first one to pick the same animal as me, wins the signed CD. Good luck!

I know you all are like, "we just want to see pictures of the amazing vegan food you ate." I wish I could add all the pictures, but I'll have to just tell you about a few of them. We ate some Buffalo wings, spicy chicken sandwiches, waffles, and last but not least, blueberry cheesecake. Yes, this was all vegan. Amazing right?

PS - I can't take a picture of myself without a completely ridiculous face.

Okay people—be sure to get your comments to us by December 17, and I'll notify the lucky winner by December 21.

Words from the Road, peta2 Style...part deux November 4, 2007

More delicious dishes and complete pandemonium from Silverstein's "I Am Not A Nugget" tour is comin' your way! Silverstein and peta2's outreach staff are out and about informing anyone and everyone about the fact that chickens are not currently included in the Humane Slaughter Act. Because of this fact, pretty much anything can be done to chickens raised for food and no one's protecting them. We're encouraging people that are outraged by this to sign our petition that is asking the government to include chickens in the Act. This would offer the birds just a tad bit more protection than what they're currently getting. It's a step in the right direction and a little's better than nothin', ya know what I'm saying. Anyway, here's a break from the action. Take it away my dear and delightful, Cody...

Hello from the ever so beautiful Vermont! Folks, let me introduce you to some amazing food that we have been able to embark upon.

susan%20bday.jpg

First we celebrated Susan's day of getting old in Coopersburg, PA. What is that glowing in her face you ask? Well, what's glowing are a couple of incredible cakes from my favorite bakery called Vegan Treats! I'll let you decide which dessert looks better.

On Halloween we got to "chill" in Rochester, NY, and eat trash! Not literally, but we did enjoy a plate named "the trash plate" at a place called Dogtown. The plate consisted of two veggie dogs, chili, and fries! Whoa doggie! I need to grow up...

scary%20susan.jpg

That night we showed the town that Halloween is every day for chickens and it's hell for them. Think about it, chickens have their throats slit and are sometimes scalded to death in feather removal tanks. That's on top of having to suffer with broken wings and legs. I haven't seen that in any horror film, have you?

Alright folks, time to cruise and we'll see ya'll at the Saints and Sinners Fest!

Six Japanese Girls + Ska = Amazing August 24, 2007

So I am back on Warped Tour. Right now I'm relaxing on our day off in a nicely air-conditioned tour bus somewhere in California. Yesterday in Portland I had the great pleasure of running across a band that made me dance like a madman and say the word "cute" about a million times.

Who is this band that inspires such wonderfulness? They are the upcoming fresh out of high school all girl Japanese sextet—ORESKABAND.

Not only does the band feature a purple saxophone, they also have a song called Monkey Man (Monkey monkey Man). Wait, it gets better...they love the Nugget!

Not only did they model our "I Am Not a Nugget" tee, they also signed one for you to win just by commenting below!

P.S. If you haven't already, check out ORESKABAND now—they rocked SXSW, Warped Tour, and will be coming to a town near you soon. And it goes without saying, if you haven't yet checked out our Nugget summer campaign—do so now!

Put the Nugget on MySpace! August 16, 2007

Youth Noise, a great social networking site for a variety of causes (including animal rights!), has created a new "I Am Not a Nugget" widget to help us get the word out about our summer campaign to save chicks!

We have collected almost 150,000 signatures for the Nugget petition already this summer, but there is still more work to be done! You can help by posting the Nugget widget on MySpace, Facebook, and/or your personal blog to let all your friends know about the campaign.
