Hunting Is So Odd October 13, 2009

Posted by Pulin Modi at October 13, 2009 12:20 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 10 ) | TrackBack

I think we can all agree that hunting is a pretty strange activity. I don't know if I'll ever be able to understand how anyone can consider killing an animal to be part of an enjoyable experience with the natural world. It's just sick.

And on top of that, it's so dangerous for people too!

Don't believe me ...

So that's why I just think hunting is so odd. Why in the world would someone risk his or her life to sit in the woods and kill animals? Note that that brief list of articles is just from this month! Violence is all connected in this world. The sooner we all realize this and speak up for the voiceless, the better off we will all be!

Shoot photos, not animals!

Free Stuff Friday: 'Hide Your Heart' Hoodie February 13, 2009

It's almost Valentine's Day so I thought it would be an interesting time to talk about how hunters often aim to slaughter deer by shooting through their hearts. How sad!

Personally, I think that it's best to live in harmony with wildlife and enjoy seeing animals alive rather than as corpses. It seems more respectable to appreciate the natural world for what it is rather than what it can do for us. I cannot imagine what goes through the mind of someone who sees killing wildlife as a sign of being connected to the outdoors. Really, it's not!

Go running, hiking, climbing, kayaking, swimming, rafting, snow boarding, caving, biking, tubing, bird watching, or any of the other numerous ways there are to have fun in the outdoors. Why does an animal have to lose his or her life in the process?! And please, before you give me some silly defense of hunting, check this out.

With that out of the way, our friends at Herbivore have hooked us up with a prize pack including the 'Hide Your Heart' hoodie featured above, as well as a bunch of stickers and buttons! They are awesome people doing great things for this movement, so we're excited to work with them on this.
Check out all their stuff.

To be entered to win a 'Hide Your Heart' hoodie, comment below with your favorite way to enjoy the outdoors! We'll pick the most exciting one as the winner.

All submissions must be received by February 20th and the winner will be notified February 27th. Just so you know ... by commenting here, you're acknowledging that you've read and agreed to our privacy policy. Also by commenting, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions.

Shoot photographs, not animals,

Here (Sea) Kitty Kitty October 13, 2008

Posted by Pulin Modi at October 13, 2008 12:41 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 0 ) | TrackBack

I would like you to meet my friend Mr.

Yea, that's the full name sort of like how Prince and Coolio and others have just one name.

Mr. is a sea kitten who loves to play in fresh water and is notorious for putting up a fight if you try to pick on him or his friends. He and I have that in common, for sure.

I consulted with Mr. to come up with the five best things you can do to help sea kittens. Here's what we came up with in no particular order:

1) Put a sea kitten banner on your page.
2) Create your own sea kitten and set him or her as your default on MySpace, Facebook, or Bebo.
3) Send a letter to protect sea kittens from being hunted.
4) Take part in this Street Team mission.
5) Read some Sea Kitten stories.

Obviously, the most important thing is to go vegetarian and stop people from eating these kittens of the sea.

Mr. and I thank you.

Spread the word.

-Pulin

We Are Not Making This Stuff Up December 26, 2007

In case you missed some recent news.

  • An 18 year old boy was shot and died while he was out trying to shoot and kill geese.

  • The president and CEO of the largest processor of chickens' carcasses in the United States, Pilgrim's Pride, recently suffered a stroke while on a trip out hunting animals and he later died. (Here's one example of how his company made a profit off of cruelty to animals.)

  • Some hunter in North Carolina slipped on a ladder and shot himself and died.

  • He is going to have some trouble walking since he shot himself in the foot while hunting in Ohio.

  • You know that line "You’ll shoot your eye out!" from A Christmas Story? Yea. This guy must too after he got a pellet to the eye while trying to slaughter geese.

The point of all this is that when your intention is to go out and kill things, you're bound to get into a heap of trouble. Know what I'm sayin' dudes and dudettes?

Speaking of hunting accidents, did you see the Dick Cheney e-card?

-Pulin

P.S.- I consulted with some deer before posting this blog and they were super excited. They also wanted me to tell you about the reindeer campaign against Santa since it's around Christmas and all.

Pop Culture Shock Therapy August 10, 2007

Doug Bratton is a nice vegetarian dude and creator of a daily comic panel, Pop Culture Shock Therapy. The comic has grown to be one of the most popular in college newspapers around the country, appearing on dozens of campuses from New York to Hawaii! Doug's comics also appear in Nickelodeon and MAD Magazine, as well as three books which collect his Pop Culture Shock Therapy comics.

After meeting Doug and his partner Pam at a conference a few months ago, we knew we had to share his work with you. As you can see, he definitely ties in some of the animal rights themes to his work! Check it out and let us know what you think because we'll be sure to share some more in the future if you enjoy this stuff!

For those of you in college or working with any student newspaper, drop Doug and Pam a line to feature the work in your campus publications.
