Today, we in peta2 are remembering Melissa Tindell, a 13 year old girl who gave her life trying to rescue a kitten from being hit by a car in front of her local bus stop. You can read more about her story here.
There's no doubt in any of our minds that Melissa, who according to her parents loved cats and horses, would've grown up to be an amazing advocate for animals in every way, and we are humbled by her bravery and courage to help others in need. Melissa's father was quoted as saying the way his daughter died was a reflection of how loving and caring she was, and we agree. We are sending her family a certificate in memory of Melissa and her love for animals.
In honor of Melissa, go out and do something for animals in need. Whether it's handing someone a sticker or volunteering at a local animal shelter, please do something to remember that even the smallest act of kindness makes a difference.
Most of the time, I love my job in peta2 because of the silly demonstrations we do, and the fun things we get to write about. Today I love my job because of the honor I have in recognizing that compassion like this exists in the world.
Thank you Melissa, for being an inspiration.
