Vanessa Carlton's New ABC Ad April 22, 2008

Posted by Patricia at April 22, 2008 11:30 AM | TrackBack

Spring is in full swing, thank goodness! I am totally over cold weather and apparently so are all the wildlife around here, they're um, well, they're downright frisky. That's what happens when Spring rolls around, which makes it the perfect time to talk about spaying and neutering, and our brand new ABC (Animal Birth Control) ad starring Vanessa Carlton and her handsome canine companion, Victor.

I have to say that ad is pretty darn cute. And Victor is adorable! Vanessa and Victor want everyone to practice their ABC's because that's the best way to end animal homelessness. "The most well-adjusted and emotionally balanced dogs and cats are the mixed breeds found in shelters," says Carlton.

Vanessa joins NBA star Ron Artest and burlesque queen, Dita Von Teese in supporting our ABC campaign because they want you to know that millions of animals are euthanized in shelters every year because there aren't enough good homes for them. And when you buy a dog or a cat from a breeder or a pet store, it kills a shelter animal's chance for adoption.

Adds Carlton, "Bottom line: Always go to a shelter first. Personally, I think spaying and neutering should be an enforced law." We agree! Thanks to our friends at CosmoGirl.com who are helping us launch the ad!

Lindsay Lohan: Incapable of Changing Her Fur-Wearing Ways? February 4, 2008

Just when it looked as though Lindsay Lohan was getting her act together, she goes and starts wearing fur again. I really wanted to believe she was turning over a new leaf with this whole sobriety thing. I thought she was really on the road to recovery this time, I mean she hasn't been spotted out drinking since, well, since New Year's Eve. Come on now, dancing can really make a girl thirsty!

And this whole working in the morgue episode, if that doesn't cause her to shape up, what will?! Listen, working in the morgue changes people, OK? It usually does...sometimes...alright it sometimes changes some people...the ones with souls...Anyway, you'd think being around all of those corpses she would have had enough of death, but you'd be wrong.

She's been spotted wearing a whole mess of dead animals—four different coats in a month's time! (You can see two of the wretched things here.)

I know she's trying to reinvent herself but into what? Lindsay, take a look around at who's actually wearing fur these days—old ladies, hideous little trolls, washed-up has-beens, and street walkers. Which one are you aspiring to be?

Kim Cattrall Donates Furs to PETA December 19, 2007

As a shameless Sex and the City fan I admit I can't wait for the release of the film. I hate the fact that at least one of them—usually Samantha Jones, a.k.a. Kim Cattrall—wears fur pretty routinely but I think it sums her greedy, shallow, self-absorbed, status-seeking character up pretty well and paints a nice picture of one type of fur-wearer...the greedy, shallow, self-absorbed, status-seeking type.

I've been reading all the stories about it, spoilers and all, and I watch the reruns even if I've seen the episode six times, I can't help it. Like the one where Carrie's (Sarah Jessica Parker, who wears only fake fur in real life, by the way) building goes co-op and she realizes she's spent $40,000 on shoes but has nowhere to live...well, you know me and shoes.

Anyway, a while back a bunch of pix from a scene in which Samantha's fur coat is splashed with red paint were circulating on the Web. Now there's no word on what really happens in the scene but it appears that it could have been the work of some angry animal lovers, we'll just have to wait and see.

The good news is, after the film wraps those coats will be on their way to PETA H.Q. courtesy of Ms. Cattrall. Yep, Kim Cattrall is a reformed fur wearer! After learning the dirty secrets of the fur industry the sexiest Sex gal had a change of heart and stopped wearing fur.

Not only that, but she feels so strongly about her new anti-fur stance that she doesn't want to appear to endorse real fur at all and decided to have the furs shipped to us so that we could use them in our program to donate furs to the homeless.

This just goes to show you that when educated, people can change, so keep spreading the word. And don't forget to pledge to be fur free!
