Lohan Says Furs Are Fake ... Right October 22, 2009

Posted by Patricia at October 22, 2009 11:05 AM | Permalink | Comments ( 7 ) | TrackBack

So stop me if you heard this one, oh, say a few years ago ... but Lindsay Lohan tweeted saying that her furs are fake. Check out said tweet here:

Lindsay%20Tweet.JPG

Yeah, that's all well and good if it is actually true. Lindsay has claimed her furs were fake before, then showed up all over the place in, what else, real fur. But maybe this time Lindsay has had a true change of heart and will no longer pay for animals to be skinned alive so she can wear them.

I was really hoping that was the case when we called a rep from her new line to see if it was fur-free too. The rep confirmed that the stoles in her collection are in fact real fur.

What?! So she's not going to wear real fur but she's going to sell it?! Um, Lindsay, just ditch the fur altogether and maybe you'll earn enough good karma points to get your career back on track.

All you loyal peta2 blog readers out there know how much we love Pink, and why wouldn't we?! Aside from being a fierce performer and one of the most successful female vocalists of the past decade, Pink stands up for animals every chance she gets. Always notorious for speaking her mind, Pink took a few moments out of her show in the DC area yesterday to give props to the first lady, Michelle Obama, for her compassionate decision to be fur-free!

In front of a sold-out crowd of 10,000, Pink gave high praise to America's first family, saying "Let's get political for a second. Since we're near D.C., I have to give a shout-out to Michelle Obama, who has announced that she is officially fur-free. I love an animal-lovin' first lady!"

As do I! Well said, Pink!

Show Some Love for The Veronicas September 17, 2009

Posted by Megan Rondeau at September 17, 2009 3:33 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 2 ) | TrackBack

One of the best parts about my job is working with bands to help them get involved with peta2. I get to work with some seriously awesome bands who are all ready and willing to do whatever they can to stand up for animals—everything from signing our petitions, to posing for a PSA, to letting our kick ass peta2 tour crew table their tours. One of the "seriously awesome" bands I've hung out with recently is The Veronicas!

If I could sum up The Veronicas in one word, I'd have to go with fierce! These girls are not afraid to speak their minds, on or offstage, and are living proof of how good you can look when you're fashionable without fur! The point is, The Veronicas love helping animals and in return, we want to help them! A Veronicas fan site started a petition to help get the girls on Ellen and they need your help! Who better to represent peta2 on Ellen then these lovely ladies, and all you need to do is sign your name!

P.S. After signing the petition, there is a page that prompts you to donate to the site. You can close out of that page without donating and your signature will still count! Trust me, I tried it out myself!

Steve-O's Gone Vegan! September 11, 2009

Posted by Patricia at September 11, 2009 5:00 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 21 ) | TrackBack

Here's a guest blog from our good friend Steve-O.

Steve-O.jpg

When I first became involved with PETA, it was on an "issue-by-issue" basis—they interviewed me in my old apartment about animal abuse in the circus as I sat on a leather sofa. At that time I was a meat-eater, and told them I believe that if anyone is going to wear the flesh or fur of an animal, they should at least have the decency to eat the meat of that animal. That comment led to my involvement in PETA's "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" campaign. The following year I chose to stop eating meat (and stop wearing or purchasing anything made out of leather), however, citing reports that Jesus Christ fed lots of people with fish, I continued to eat fish. Most recently, for just over a month now, I've kept to a strictly vegan diet and I've not felt "hard-done-by" at all. I have been really enjoying making a project out of seeking out an extremely healthy diet of raw, organic, vegan foods—and I plan on continuing to do so.

Win The Used's New CD "Artwork" ... Signed! September 1, 2009

Posted by Shannon Phillips at September 1, 2009 9:46 AM | Permalink | Comments ( 100 ) | TrackBack

Some say that the third time's a charm, but it seems like it's the fourth for our friends The Used! With their fourth studio album Artwork generating buzz and positive reviews in just about every alternative music magazine, the band has just released what many are saying is the best album of their career thus far. After seeing the video for the first single "Blood On My Hands," I'm inclined to agree!

Freschwill / CC

While we here at peta2 are all loving the new album, we also love that The Used have never shyed away from speaking up for animals. Whether it's Bert, Jeph, and Quinn signing a letter to the CEO of Wet Seal about their use of fur (we won that campaign, thank you very much!) or Jeph giving the low-down on KFC, members of The Used are always ready to speak up for those who can't speak themselves.

To celebrate the release of The Used's new album, we want to give you the chance to win a copy of Artwork signed by the entire band. You heard me ... signed! For your chance to win a copy of Artwork signed by the band, please comment with your favorite memory of The Used. It can be a concert memory, a memory you have involving a song ... anything! Five winners will be chosen at random. Entries must be received by September 15, and winner will be notified by September 29.

Just so you know ... by commenting here, you're acknowledging that you've read and agreed to our privacy policy.

Also by commenting, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions.

Save Animals With Your iPod! August 28, 2009

Posted by Rachel-O at August 28, 2009 1:55 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 42 ) | TrackBack

If I had a vegan cupcake for every time someone said they'd stopped eating animals, wearing fur or going to the circus because of a video they'd seen that shocked them, well, I'd be a very happy person. Even though it can be hard to watch, videos like Meet Your Meat, Chew On This, or our undercover investigations into Ringling Bros., suppliers for McDonald's, and others, are really what make people realize that what happens to animals is wrong—and that they can make a difference.

School has started for most of you, and while you're probably dreading spending time in those buses, hallways and classrooms, peta2 has found a new way for you to spend that time really educating your classmates.

Click on the images below to download our videos specially encoded for your iPods (if they play videos!), or iPhones. Once they're downloaded to your computer, just drag or import them into iTunes like you normally would a song.

If you're on the Street Team, we'll give you 500 points for showing them to your friends! E-mail us at StreetTeam@peta2.com and let us know what videos you downloaded, who you showed it to and how it went! We'll give you an extra 500 points if you send us a screen shot or a picture of the videos on your iPod!

So a Bear Walks Into a Fur Store ... August 17, 2009

Posted by Ryan at August 17, 2009 2:28 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 6 ) | TrackBack

It sounds like the beginning of a faux cheesy joke, but it was no laughing matter for the cruel shoppers perusing the racks at Mark Richards Fine Outerwear in Aspen, CO.

You see, Mark Richards is a store that sells the skins of animals, in the form of fur coats. In an understandable mistake, a local bear apparently walked into the shop on a busy Saturday night—maybe trying to find out why all of his friends keep disappearing?

Evidently the bear has more fashion sense than some other residents of Aspen, as he walked out without buying anything. CNN has the full story, and a video of the encounter:

Embedded video from CNN Video

What do you think the bear thought as he walked in the fur store?

I'm going to guess it was something to the effect of "Billy, is that you?"

Trashley Trollsen: No Animals Are Safe When She's Around August 10, 2009

Posted by Marta at August 10, 2009 12:30 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 42 ) | TrackBack
StarMaxInc.com
In case you're wondering, Trashley Trollsen is as wretched as ever. While other celebs like Eva Mendes, Charlize Theron, Jessica Biel, and Natalie Portman have sworn off fur, the Trollsen twins won't let go of their caveman mentality. Not only are the terrible twosome using fur in their clothing line again this year—no doubt they, themselves, will also be draped from head to toe in dead animals—but apparently Trashley is also a big fan of exotic skins bags, exclaiming in an article on Marie Claire's Web site, the "Crocodile is my fa-vorite!"

She then goes on to review some "fabric samples" for the new line ... "This one is dope," she says referring to a rabbit fur swatch, and then Trashley examines a piece of lambskin and says, "I want to see the belly because I think it would look great across the back of the jacket." Um, no. Rabbits and lambs are NOT fabric.

Brooke Really Does Know Best August 6, 2009

Posted by Tiffany Wright at August 6, 2009 2:44 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 4 ) | TrackBack

You've seen her sporting her 'Be Kind To Animals' tee on VH1's Brooke Knows Best and, now, Brooke Hogan is taking her love of animals one step further by vowing never to buy fur. In her latest blog post, she says "I love animals, I was raised with animals and respect them. I was speechless when I saw this and it affected me deeply." Of course, Brooke's referring to our very own Chinese fur farm video which, hip-hop mogul and long-time animal rights activist, Russell Simmons showed her.

Brooke also says "If I can change one person's mind about wearing fur by writing this blog then I'm happy." I'm sure you've changed a lot more minds than that Brooke-tini!

E.U. Finalizes Seal Product Ban—Canada Still Clueless July 27, 2009

Posted by Rachel-O at July 27, 2009 5:22 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 5 ) | TrackBack
nationalpost / CC
Sooner or later, the Canadian government will realize that slaughtering seals just has to stop.

A few months ago, we told you about a vote by the European Union (E.U.) to end the sale of seal products. Well, now is the time to do a little victory dance, because the ban has just been finalized! According to the AP, Canada exported about $5 million worth of seal products to the EU last year, so this ban is another big blow to the country's annual seal massacre.

Since most of Europe has denounced the shameful slaughter of baby seals loud and clear, you'd think that Canada's government would finally get a clue and take action to end the annual bloodbath, right?

Think again.

Sorry to say, but once again, instead of enacting the ban that good people around the world—including a great many in Canada—are demanding, the Canadian government continues to pour all its efforts into keeping the massacre going. Until the last minute, it was still lobbying the E.U. to change its mind.

Without a doubt though, they can't ignore it any longer—with the E.U. refusing to pay for the blood of seals and consumers boycotting Canadian maple syrup, the seal slaughter is becoming less profitable for Canada every single day!

Stay loud!
-Rachel
