We Got Into Harvard! September 16, 2009

As you may have seen in our long-running and much-adored "Dumb Comments" series, meat-eaters can sometimes have a hard time coming up with much of an argument in favor of eating animals (aside from everyone's favorite crusher—"it's tasty"). So we were curious—can America's best and brightest do any better?

To find out, we set up a debate on the topic at the top-ranked college in the world—Harvard University. Working with the school's resident veg-heads from the campus vegetarian society, we arranged for a representative from the Harvard debate team to face off against PETA vice president Bruce Friedrich, to answer the question "Is Eating Animals Ethical?"

Ahead of the event, peta2 was everywhere on campus. In the student newspaper, walking around campus in a chicken costume, and even stopping by the dining halls at dinner time to remind students to attend the debate!

The result? A packed room, with more than 250 students ... well, I'll let the pictures do the talking:

Now, I know what you're wondering. Who won?

Well, as the Harvard Crimson newspaper reported, "Throughout most of the debate, though a slim majority of the packed Science Center audience admitted to eating meat, [the debate team] conceded [the PETA VP's] arguments about the immorality of being a carnivore in today's world. PETA seemed downright reasonable." In other words, we made an unbeatable case for vegetarianism. :)

Pretty cool, eh?

So what do you say to convince meat-eaters to change their ways?

Chris P. Carrot and Nugget: A New Hope October 15, 2008

The last presidential debate is on tonight, and I'm greatly disappointed that presidential hopeful Chris P. Carrot will not be taking part. I want to hear from Mr. Carrot on the issue most dear to his heart and mine—getting America to go vegetarian! To me, Chris P. Carrot stands for all the things that make America great.

Check out this important message from Chris P. Carrot, and you'll see my point:

Inspiring...I felt goose bumps of hope while watching it. Did you?

What makes Chris P. Carrot even better is his fantastic choice in running mate: Nugget!

P.S. As a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, we can't and don't endorse or oppose any candidate running for election or any political party. We also can't and won't approve comments about the actual election or the candidates running—so don't do it!

Debate 2008: The Road to the Greenhouse! January 11, 2008

Can't seem to get into watching the debates? I feel you. I would rather poke myself in the eye.

I wasn't always this jaded about politics though. Once upon a time, I was in college at American University studying politics like my life depended on it. I couldn't get enough. I would stay up into the wee hours discussing whether Nader ruined Gore's chances, or if the election was rigged (on numerous occasions).

Then something happened. I lost my faith in the political process. It was kinda like Mr. Smith Goes to Washington without the happy ending.

Years later, and just when I thought it was hopeless that I would ever get back into politics; PETA comes up with a brilliant video called Debate 2008: Road to the Greenhouse.

Now this is a debate I can get into! It combines two of my greatest loves in life: puppets and veggies. This debate might not get on CSPAN, but it definitely made it to onto my MySpace page!

With characters like Broccoli Obama, Celery Clinton, and Fruity Giuliani debating over whether meat causes impotence—how couldn't I get back into the game?

You won't be able to resist either. Check it out for yourself.
