"Skinny Bitches" Get Their Moms Something Useful This Mother's Day! May 4, 2009

Best-selling author Rory Freedman has already spared millions of animals from unnecessary deaths in slaughterhouses, simply by promoting a healthy and cruelty-free vegan diet in her iconic book Skinny Bitch. But now she's taking her compassion to the next level!
You see, rather than buying her mom another meaningless foot massager or something this Mother's Day, Rory has offered to donate $5,000 to peta2 in her mom's honor—but only if you follow her example!
Here's how it works: Rory is going to match donors like you dollar-for-dollar, up to $5,000 total. So for example, if you donate $20 to peta2, she will also donate $20 to double the impact! As Rory said in an email to peta2, "Show your mom who you are and how well she raised you—that you know what is really important."
Your donations—no matter what size—will go twice as far to help us raise awareness and combat cruelty to animals raised for food, clothing, experimentation, and other industries.
Your support helps us win countless victories. From convincing top retailers such as J. Crew and Urban Outfitters to go fur-free to pushing for the first-ever felony charges of cruelty to factory-farmed birds, peta2 is changing how the world treats animals, but we can't do it alone!
Take Rory's Challenge and Have Your Donation Doubled!

"Vegetarianism is for Lovers" Event at Western Washington University! April 5, 2009

This year's "Vegetarianism is for Lovers" event, sponsored by WARN, was a wonderful success, drawing around 150 people! We had two tables of literature and encouraging each person to take anything they wanted. We baked for over 6 hours to prepare all the food that we served. We baked over 120 cupcakes, 5 cakes, and hundreds of little heart cookies. It was wonderful to see people interested not just in the amazing free vegan food, but in what our club stands for. On her way out, one woman told us that she had just gone vegan!

Cruelty-Free Valentines at Concordia University! April 5, 2009

This Valentines Day, students with CARA (Concordia Animal Rights Association) joined forces with peta2 to hand out awesome cruelty-free Valentines Day cards that urged students to "have a heart for animals – buy cruelty-free". Fellow students helped make cards, give them to awesome guys and gals and even handed some out in front of a company giving out free Colgate toothpaste (tested on animals).

After talking to kick-ass college kids about how much animal testing sucks, and how easy it is to buy cruelty-free, we headed over to the student union to place a special little v-day card in each student organization's mailbox.

Overall, it was a great day!

When my friend Lucas and I were offered to table for peta2 at the University of Ottawa, we knew we couldn’t refuse! The event was an eco-fair, so of course we discussed the issue of global warming and what can be done about this crisis. Since it’s been well-documented that going vegetarian is better for the environment than switching to a hybrid car, it was a natural fit!

The event was part of the University of Ottawa's "Green Week"! Our booth attracted lots of attention to not only the plight of animals, but on the green benefits of a vegan diet on the planet. We also handed out Tofurky, vegan cheese and "egg" salad sandwiches to hungry students while informing them about the impact of a meat-based diet. Everyone loves free food!

Stunned students watched PETA's "Meet Your Meat" in horror as they learned about the horror behind factory farming! Many students were happy to take action and sign our "Fight Global Warming With Your Fork" petition, which was a huge success!

All in all, it was a great day of raising awareness and eating awesome vegan food!
