Why Are Pigs Dancing at Warped Tour? June 26, 2008

Posted by Marta at June 26, 2008 9:31 AM | Permalink | Comments ( 0 ) | TrackBack

This week in the lives of road warriors we kicked off Warped Tour in California, spreading the word about pigs being abused in factory farms.

You may remember that Alida from 1997 is beginning to blog her experiences being vegetarian on the road for peta2. Well, we were lucky enough to have the band play an acoustic set in OUR TENT. Um...hell yea!

Even the pigs were rocking out.

We also had some AMAZING Street Teamers come out and help save some animals—like Leonard, voted Cutest Vegetarian Alive, and Tyler.

Make sure you come say hi to us at one of the other Vans Warped Tour dates. Did you win your tickets yet?

Stay Brutal,

Paige

Free Stuff Friday: 'Friend, Not Food' Tee May 16, 2008

Posted by Marta at May 16, 2008 10:21 AM | Permalink | Comments ( 1382 ) | TrackBack

One of my favorite slogans that we use here at peta2 is "(insert animal here) are friends, not food." It's just so cute and catchy. So you can imagine how unbelievably excited I was when I found out that vegetarian snowboarder and artist TJ Schneider designed a 'Friend, Not Food' tee exclusively for peta2.

Check out peta2's Cutest Vegetarian Alive winners, Kelly Anderson and Leonard Sun, modeling the tee:

And we wanted to spread the love, of course, so we're giving two of you lucky readers the chance to score one of these adorable shirts. All you have to do to win is comment with your shirt size and why you think that animals are friends, not food. I think that animals are friends, not food because I love to hug all animals (cats, chickens, and crazy humans alike)—and I certainly wouldn't spend my time hugging potatoes and parsnips.

This contest ends June 6, 2008 and the winner will be chosen and notified by June 13, 2008.

Just so you know...by commenting here, we're taking that as acknowledgment that you've read and agreed to our privacy policy.

Also by commenting, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions.

Good luck!

Marta

PS - I'm a huge nerd and am actually wearing the tee as I write this blog.

You've gotten the chance to see what some of our Cutest Vegetarian Alive finalists have to say about why you should vote for them. Want more? I thought so!

Check out what finalist Ashley Peterson has to say about why you should vote for her:

So go vote for your favorites if you haven't yet!

And now, just because, take a look at this photo I took with an adorable little boy at an all-vegetarian Chinese restaurant we went to after the Take Action conference in Toronto on Saturday night. Yes, he and his brother showed us how to play Pokemon cards! And notice Pulin giving me bunny ears. Aren't you just so clever, Puli?

Canada is awesome. Great Street Teamers + Great Food = Amazing Trip!

By now, hopefully most of you have seen the adorable finalists for our Cutest Vegetarian Alive contest. Maybe you've spent lots of time figuring out who you want to vote for, but it's just so hard (I hear ya!). Well, maybe it would be a bit easier if you knew, say, what the finalists can't stop eating. Some of the girls have shared with me what their favorite vegetarian foods are, so I thought I'd let you lovely blog readers in on that, too.

Kelly Anderson: PF Chang's tofu dishes; Amy's black bean enchiladas
Carissa Danesi: Edamame; Vegetables; Tofu
Jenni Goodman: Tofutti Cuties; the vegan Philly Cheesesteak with vegan cheese at One World Café
Savannah Grissinger: Tofu cooked with soy sauce and noodles; Pita bread filled with salad
Amanda Groves: Tofu mixed with vegetables and fried up, eaten with soy sauce!
Alexis Hilfman: Morningstar Farms fake meats; Fruit
Megan Osgood: Popcorn w/ spices; PB&J; Tofu
Ashley Peterson: Soy Chai Lattes; Morningstar Farms products; Salad
Emily Rohady: Pasta; Salad

Did all that food talk make you hungry? Go grab some veggie food, and then come back and vote for the girls and guys you want to move onto Round 2.

Also, a few of the finalists have made short videos about why you should vote for them, which I'll be sharing on the blog. First up is Kelly Anderson. Check it out!

My Confession February 22, 2008

Posted by Marta at February 22, 2008 2:28 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 4 ) | TrackBack

I have a weakness. You know how a lot us have a weakness for cute boys (or girls)? Well, I have a weakness for cute vegetarians. It's true; I admit it. Don't judge me! I practically melt into a puddle of cute-induced ooze when I see Milo "No Meat for Me" Ventimiglia's face grace my computer screen. And Miley Cyrus can't help but make me happy by being a huge star who doesn't eat anyone with a face. And don't even get me started on all the vegetarians I know in real life!

There is nothing more adorable than someone who wears his compassion on his sleeve by leaving animals off of his plate. So you can imagine that peta2's Cutest Vegetarian Alive contest makes me oh-so-happy each year! It's time for our third annual contest, and I can't wait for the entries to start pouring in! I can only imagine how many times I'm going to say "OMG!" and "She's totally cute" and "He's adorable!" over the next few weeks...

Alas, I won't be choosing the ultimate winner, as all of you will have to vote on who the winners should be. Cute vegetarians are everywhere, so this should be simple! Now's the time for you to nominate your best friend who always orders the veggie sandwich when you're out, or your boyfriend the Boca burger buff, or even you, the Riblet fanatic of the century (don't deny it!). For inspiration, check out this crop of cute vegetarians:

Okay, okay, so that's really a bunch of my friends and me, but you do think we're all cute vegetarians, right? Right?!

Anyway, get to nominating, so we can get to oohing and ahhing. For real.

Marta

PS - Ryan, you better not try to nominate yourself. We're so on to you!
