Cruelty-Free Valentines at Concordia University! April 5, 2009

This Valentines Day, students with CARA (Concordia Animal Rights Association) joined forces with peta2 to hand out awesome cruelty-free Valentines Day cards that urged students to "have a heart for animals – buy cruelty-free". Fellow students helped make cards, give them to awesome guys and gals and even handed some out in front of a company giving out free Colgate toothpaste (tested on animals).

After talking to kick-ass college kids about how much animal testing sucks, and how easy it is to buy cruelty-free, we headed over to the student union to place a special little v-day card in each student organization's mailbox.

Overall, it was a great day!
LUSH Cosmetics Takes a Stand Against Seal Slaughter March 23, 2009

As you know, the annual Canadian seal slaughter has begun and hundreds of thousands of seals are being brutally massacred. Even though the vast majority of American and Canadian citizens oppose the seal slaughter, the Canadian government continues to support it.
One of peta2's favorite cruelty-free cosmetics companies, LUSH, is demanding the Canadian government put an end to this horrific practice. Last year, more than 205,000 individual seals were killed. Most of them were babies less than four weeks old who hadn't even had their first swim yet.
Not only is LUSH urging people to sign their online petition to help ban this senseless, barbaric slaughter, but they're also donating 100% of the proceeds from the sales of their First Swim Limited Edition Bubble Bar to Sea Shepherd Conservation Society— a non-profit that seeks to end the slaughter of wildlife in the world's oceans. So be sure to visit their website and get yours ASAP! It smells sooooooo good!

Posted by Patricia at December 17, 2008 11:13 AM | Permalink | Comments ( 9 ) | TrackBackWow, the holidays are right around the corner, which means its time for all of that celebrating, spending time with long lost relatives, and spreading joy. And let's not forget about the presents!
Speaking of presents, I'm hoping Santa is bringing me lots of cute vegan shoes, which reminds me that it's almost time for peta2's third annual Libby Awards!
The Libbys are peta2's way of recognizing veg-friendly foods and restaurants, and animal-friendly companies, bands, celebs, labels, athletes, and movies among others. Oh, and here's where you come in, we want your input!
Got a favorite clothing company, shoe, or line of cruelty-free cosmetics you can't live without? Tell us about it!
What companies or products would you nominate for the following categories?
- Best Animal-Friendly Clothing Company (Skelanimals was last year's winner.)
- Best Men's Vegan Sneaker (Macbeth's Aberdale Vegan ran away with the prize in 2007.)
- Best Cruelty-Free Cosmetic Company (Last year e.l.f. wiped out the competition.)
- Best Women's Vegan Shoe (My fave category! Keds Eleanor Grosch Skimmers was your fave shoe for 2007.)
- Best Cruelty-Free Hair Product (Manic Panic Hair Dye topped last year's list.)

Animal Testing science cosmetics
As some of you may have seen on CNN.com, new technology being developed could potentially spare millions of animals from needless and cruel experiments. It's about time!
It's all pretty scientific, but basically it's a new computer chip that has human cells in it, which means that we can run chemicals and other products through it, thus giving scientists the data they need without harming rabbits, rats, dogs, or other animals who are often tortured in laboratories.

For you science nerds out there, you can even watch video of this new technology in action HERE. As a warning though, if you can't tell the difference between an electron and a hole in the wall (like I can't), this may bore the pants off of you. :)

P.S. - I mean no disrespect to the nerds reading this blog. Believe it or not, in 5th grade, I intentionally lied during my routine eye check-up, because I thought people with thick glasses looked cool. True story.
