Canada, Nugget, & a Sumo Wrestler? October 2, 2009
Posted by Rachel-O at October 2, 2009 4:54 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 2 ) | TrackBackHey guys! This is Renee and I'm super excited to be one of peta2's new tour leaders! We have a great crew this year that is going to kick some major ass for animals!

We spent the weekend at College Fest in Boston, MA and we met a lot of people interested in our McCruelty campaign. Each person was shocked and horrified to hear about the abuse McDonalds puts their chickens through—why would anyone want to eat these gentle beings?
One of those beings is our dear friend, Nugget.

I'm not saying who won ... I'll let you work it out amongst yourselves. College's have been great ... but I'm off to Tech n9ne! Watch Out!
More to come soon!
Thanks Ren! Hey friends, it's Joey once again reporting from the road about how we've been getting folks involved with saving animals. A crew of us were also up in Canada the majority of the week touring with our friends Silverstein and A Day to Remember. We had a great time and impacted a lot of people thanks to the hard work and skill of our new crew members, Tyler (a former Street Teamer!) and Rob.

This just reminded me that if these birds have such personalities and character then what makes people think chickens aren't the same? Chickens are actually highly intelligent, fun loving and emotional creatures who sing to their young while they're still in the egg! A group of chickens will even play with a ball if you put it in the middle of them—so why are we allowing such cruelty to occur to these interesting animals? Slitting the throat of a fully conscious chicken as he or she hangs upside down in shackles isn't OK and that's why our McCruelty petition is going around and we thank each one of you that has signed it so far.
I'm heading to Boston University right now to help their student group, Boston University Vegetarian Society, get better veg options in their dining halls. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
Take care and see ya around!

frogs Boston Brookstone Frog-O-Sphere
Have you told Brookstone what you think of the "Frog-O-Sphere" yet? The "Frog-O-Sphere" is the tiny prison where the store is keeping frogs, while making money off of telling people they can keep these animals in the tiny boxes while barely taking care of them.
The company sets a great standard by taking injured and sick frogs to the backroom to languish and die instead of calling a vet—and ignoring their own employee's concerns over the lack of care for the animals.
Check out pics from our recent demo outside of a Boston Brookstone store!

These imprisoned little animals need your help. Please keep the pressure on Brookstone to do the right thing and stop selling live animals. If you haven't already, please take a moment to call Brookstone and ask that it stop selling live animals. Call 603-880-9500 and enter extension 6826 once the automated system picks up. Don't forget to leave a message if no one answers.
Please let this company know that animals shouldn't be treated this way. We'll give Street Teamers 1000 points for calling and e-mailing us at StreetTeam@peta2.com to let us know how it went!
Crowd Surfing Nugget? October 1, 2008
Posted by Marta at October 1, 2008 12:31 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 4 ) | TrackBackOn our second week out on the college scene we got together with SPAR, the animal rights organization from Michigan State University, to help green their dining halls! Why? Funny you should ask—factory farming is the number one cause of global warming, water, and air pollution. For reals. So the crew at MSU and peta2 road warriors did it up to make a difference.

A special thanks to Drew and Mitch! Get your college active, too.
We also hit up Boston for the weekend, hanging at college fest to kick off the Meat's Not Green campaign. Everyone wanted to party with the nugget.

And of course our crowd surfing nugget!

All of this made these warriors mighty hungry—what's new? So we hit up TJ Scallywaggles, a fully vegan pizza shop with calzones and everything!

More to come soon. Our fall tours are about to kick off with Rise Against, Comeback Kid, and hellogoodbye. Check out our MySpace page for the dates!
Stay Brutal,
Paige
Kevin Garnett Has Transcended the PB&J June 18, 2008
Posted by Marta at June 18, 2008 4:01 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 4 ) | TrackBackSo did y'all see the game last night? The one where my Boston Celtics took apart the Los Angeles Lakers like they were made out of Legos and won their first NBA title since 1986? If you did, you might have caught an interview where my man Kevin Garnett talked about how he transferred (he actually said "transcended", which was awesome) his tradition of eating a whole mess of PB&Js before every game over to his Celtic teammates when he was traded there in the off-season.
Professional athletes? Eating peanut butter & jelly sandwiches?

I found this fascinating. The reaction to the interview was pretty much: "Look at KG and his wholesome, nutritious pre-game snack. It's so wholesome! And nutritious!" But PB&J is as much of a vegetarian staple as the Boca burger—I think I ate them for lunch every day for my first 8 years as a vegan. So why do I feel like if KG had said "I eat a vegan meal before every big game," the reaction would have been... different? It's like, everyone is cool with eating healthy, but for some reason eating vegan has this whole different connotation for some people... even though it's exactly the same thing.
I read an article on ESPN.com yesterday (while I was, uh, totally working hard and not on the interwebs) where Prince Fielder, Tony Gonzalez, Mac Danzig, and a bunch of other vegetarian athletes were talking about how being vegetarian has affected their game. No surprises: Gonzalez talks about having more energy in the 4th quarter of games and being able to blow by tired, meat-eating defenders, and Danzig talks about recovering faster from workouts. You can't argue with results. I figure, if a vegetarian diet is good enough for some of the top athletes on the planet, it's good enough for anyone.
So, note to the Lakers: maybe some PB&J will help next time. Although grabbing a few offensive boards wouldn't hurt either. Just sayin'.

fur Boston Taste of Chaos concerts furisdead
It's about a month into the launch of our Skelanimals Fur Is Dead campaign (Pledge to be 100,000 strong against fur!), and out here on the Rockstar Taste of Chaos tour us Road Warriors are rockin' it out, hardcore.

Earlier this week in Boston we had an amazing Street Teamer help us out and show Boston what's up.

And now, one of our favorite parts of tour (and life): GOOD VEG FOOD. We had a nice little family dinner at The Macaroni Grill in Atlanta. We all created our own pasta dishes with a HUGE selection of ingredients, yum!

They even gave us crayons which we used to create family portraits, cupcake style! I think it represents our crew perfectly. We suggest you get in touch with your inner cupcake.

Also this week, VERY EXCITING, Sarah joined us on the road to help spread the FUR IS DEAD word. You may recognize her from other such rad summer events such as Vans Warped Tour and Sounds of the Underground. Needless to say, she rules.

That's it for now, we're off to celebrate (soy) ice cream Monday, we suggest you do the same! Our recommendation: Peanut Butter Zig Zag from Purely Decadent. It makes us smile.
Peace out home slices.

KFC Take Action conference Boston Harvard
So this past weekend was the much-anticipated peta2 Take Action Conference at Harvard University, and boy was it fun!
The day started off with a rousing welcome and introduction by none other than peta2 head honcho Dan "I look powerful behind a podium" Shannon!

Probably one of my favorite parts of the day though was the "Question & Answer" session, which allowed attendees to talk about any issues they've faced with becoming vegetarian, dealing with unsupportive parents, or other problems in their efforts to speak out for animals!

Of course, it wouldn't be a peta2 event if we didn't end the day protesting outside of a local KFC! Notice Nicole "Needs a Stepladder to Use Pay Phones" Nuss as she stands with the countless other activists to make their voices heard!

So next time the Take Action Conference comes to your town, we had better see you there! Don't even pretend as though you don't want to hang out with the coolest kids in town...
