Mail the Trollsen Twins Your Hair June 9, 2008

Posted by Marta at June 9, 2008 11:51 AM | Permalink | Comments ( 14 ) | TrackBack

We're a thoughtful bunch here at peta2. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have a birthday coming up, and we wanted to come up with a birthday present for them. We figured that since they seem to be in such dire need of extra hair on their bodies, why not donate some of ours to them?

Animals have no choice when they are skinned alive, clubbed, gassed, or electrocuted for their fur, but those of us giving hair to the Trollsen Twins certainly do have a choice. Want to wish Hairy-Kate and Trashley a Happy Birthday—while sending a compassionate message?

If you're getting a haircut soon, or simply have a lot of hair in your brush, put that in an envelope along with a note that reads, "Please, use my hair instead of the animals'. Happy Birthday." Mail it to the Trollsen Twins at the address found here. And of course, send a picture to StreetTeam@peta2.com so we can see your fine work! Check out what we're mailing to the twins from peta2:

My good friend Paul got really into this mission. Check it out:

Is the idea of wearing human hair weird? Certainly—that's the point. I'm sure if animals could speak human, they'd let us know (in some strongly-worded language) that it's really weird that people wear animal fur—and awful, selfish, disgusting, and cruel, too.

Marta

PS - Do you think it's any coincidence that the Trollsen Twins' birthday happens to fall on Friday the 13th?

Nintendo Power Cupcakes April 16, 2008

Posted by Marta at April 16, 2008 2:51 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 4 ) | TrackBack

Who doesn't love cupcakes? And Nintendo? No one, I tell you! Combining those two powerful forces is just plain crazy, but my friend Mylie was up to the challenge. Since today is our friend Joel's birthday, she decided to bake up some Nintendo madness for all to enjoy. Check it out:

Can you believe it? And let me tell you, they were delicious. Mylie loves to share all-things-glorious with others, so she sent me her vegan cupcake recipe to share with all of you.

Vanilla Cupcakes!

2 1/8 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/8 cups sugar
1 cup vanilla soymilk
1/2 cup vanilla soy coffee creamer
1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 Tbsp vanilla extract

Preheat the oven to 350°.

In a large bowl, mix all the dry ingredients until evenly combined. Then add all the wet ingredients and stir until smooth. Line a muffin pan with cupcake cups and fill each cup about halfway with batter. Bake for about 15 to 20 minutes (to tell if they are ready you can stick a small knife or chopstick into the middle of the cupcake to see if it comes out clean. If there is still batter sticking to it, it's not ready).

Once finished, remove from oven and take out pan. Place the cupcakes on a wire rack or heat proof surface to cool. Let the cupcakes cool completely before frosting them or the frosting will melt!

This will make about 20 cupcakes.

For the frosting, use a vegan already made frosting like Pillsbury Creamy Supreme Vanilla mixed with food dyes to get the color you want. And for adding details, use a vegan decorating icing, like Betty Crocker.

Now go get creative and make some unbelievable vegan cupcakes for your friends, too!

Marta

PS - In case you're wondering what my friend Joel would look like, in drag, protesting fur, well, you're in luck!

Happy Birthday, Joel!

Britney Spears' Birthday Massacre December 6, 2007

Britney_Spears_birthday.jpg
America's ex-sweetheart, Britney Spears, celebrated the big 2 6 with all her pals at the Scandinavian Style Mansion last weekend. Apparently that Scandinavian Style Mansion is the new "it" spot for has-been fur hags, dont'cha know, because Sharon Stone was there as well, but not to celebrate with Britney...right.

All Britney's best pals were there, Paris, cousin Alli Sims, and that Sam guy who's in all the pix of her lately. And of course Britney, clad in her usual street-walkeresque attire, and Alli arrived to walk the red carpet in style, trimmed in dead animals. Nothing says party like fur, y'all.

And what celebrity party wouldn't be complete without super pricey presents?! Don't worry, Britney's "friends" didn't let her down, they loaded her up with lots of gifts including diamonds, leather, and fur—allegedly $30,000 worth of pelts. Nothing says, "Yay, we're glad you're around to celebrate another year of your life," quite like the skin and fur of dead animals.

Instead of giving her garments made from tortured animals her "friends" should have given her things she could really use, like parenting manuals, a driver, a new stylist, a few full length mirrors, and the number of a good life counselor/shrink. That girl needs help, not death wrapped in a brightly colored package.

Patricia

P.S. Got some suggestions for things that would have made better gifts for poor, misguided Britney? Let me know by posting them below, then pledge to be fur-free because with friends like Britney's around, animals need all the help they can get.

Today is a very important day in history. In case you didn't know, 32 years ago today Davey Havok, Mr. World's Sexiest Vegetarian for 2007, graced the world with his presence. If you ask me, he's the sexiest vegetarian in the universe every year, no contest.

Those big brown eyes, his cool sense of style, all that ink, the makeup—I blame Duran Duran for my undying attraction to boys in makeup, especially eyeliner. Roxy Music and Bowie started it really...oh, those UK boys...

And on this auspicious occasion I'd like to extend very warm birthday wishes to you, Davey, in case you're reading the peta2 blog. If I could I'd sing a very sexy, breathy Marilyn Monroe-esque version of "Happy Birthday" to you but alas, you'll have to settle for this blog since I don't have your number.

Of course you could always call me so I could sing it to you but that would be kind of sad really, you having to call me so I could sing "Happy Birthday" to you...I would though.
