Birds and Breakin' Hearts July 31, 2009
Posted by Marta at July 31, 2009 2:35 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 0 ) | TrackBackHey yo!
This week we have been reaching out to people all over the country about the brutal practices of animal testing and McDonald's vicious treatment of chickens!
It's hard to believe that Warped Tour 2009 is half way over; it seems like it just started. We've spent the past week in the hot and humid South. It's been boiling in North Carolina, Florida, and Georgia, and we were right in the middle of it. Hey someone's gotta tell folks about the painful and torturous tests that are inflicted on millions of rats, bunnies, and mice every year in cosmetic testing facilities. We're proud to brave the heat in order to get people to think more deeply about the products they use and just how those products were deemed "safe for human use."

Come to our table when Warped Tour rolls into your town and we'll hook you up with free stuff! We've got cruelty-free shopping guides to help you find better cosmetic and body care products for you and the safety of our animal friends. The DVDs at our table feature such bands as Rise Against, Cobra Starship, and Chiodos talking about a variety of different animal rights issues that mean something to them. Of course, we also have our stickers! Everyone seems to love our stickers and even love putting them on their phones, hats, and faces. As long as you guys are spreading the word and promoting animal rights ... we'll continue to provide you with stickers! Deal?!

At our hometown show in Virginia Beach we even had our good friends Anti-Flag stop by to do a signing at our table!

I'm out for now! We're heading North into Cincinnati, Detroit, and Chicago, so keep an eye open for us! I'm going to let Paige finish this baby off ...
This week we hit up LA, Chico, Seattle, Edmonton, and Calgary with the 10 for 10 tour talking to hardcore fans about the routine cruelty McDonald's practices on chickens, like being scalded alive in feather removal tanks. Our new pals from California, hardcore band The Ghost Inside, had some members sign the petition.

And Justice, singer of Trapped Under Ice rocked a McCruelty sticker during their set in Calgary.

We also made some new friends and visited with some old ones stopping to get some amazing vegan donuts along the way in Seattle!

Keep a look out for us the rest of the summer and sign our petitions to help!

Rain? Nooooo Problem! July 27, 2009
Posted by Pulin Modi at July 27, 2009 2:08 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 1 ) | TrackBackHave you had a chance to hang out with us on Warped Tour yet? I spent a few days out on the tour with our incredible peta2 outreach crew and had a really great time. I talked to a lot of people about why animal testing breaks hearts before the doors opened, hung out with Street Teamers at the peta2 booth, and met up with some bands we work with including Anti-Flag and Escape The Fate.
There were also a couple times where it rained really hard, soaking just about anyone and anything not under a tent. Lucky for us (and some of you, too), our booth helped give people some shelter from the storms!
How many people can fit under our tent?
Fun with "Gabe Saporta" while hiding from the rain.
The rain didn't stop them from getting a cruelty-free shopping guide!
Anti-Flag's "Meat's Not Green" Ad and Contest! June 9, 2009
Posted by Shannon Phillips at June 9, 2009 11:25 AM | Permalink | Comments ( 195 ) | TrackBack"You've gotta die, gotta die, gotta die for your government?" These words came blaring out of my friend's speakers like nothing I had ever heard before. It was loud, it was punk, it was in your face, and I really liked it. Over a decade later, and Anti-Flag is still at it—churning out political punk rock with new twists, album after album.
Not only has Anti-Flag stayed true to their punk sound over the years, but they've also been active in speaking up for animals since the beginning. After multiple interviews with peta2, allowing us to go on tour with them, and posing in a pro-vegetarian ad, the band is back in a new ad with the tagline "Meat Destroys The Environment" to assist with our ongoing Meat's Not Green campaign. Check it out below ...
Today is a great day. Not only did I get to show you our new Anti-Flag ad, but I get to tell you that the band's new album, The People or the Gun hits stores today, and trust me when I tell you that it's no less than awesome!
Itching to get your hands on a copy of The People or the Gun? Just leave us a comment! Really, it's just that easy. Just comment and let us know your favorite Anti-Flag show memory, your favorite song, what you're looking forward to most on Warped Tour—anything! Five winners will be chosen at random to receive a CD. Entries must be received by June 23 and winners will be notified by July 1.
Just so you know ... by commenting here, you're acknowledging that you've read and agreed to our privacy policy.

On Tour with Rise Against February 27, 2009
Posted by Rachel-O at February 27, 2009 9:01 AM | Permalink | Comments ( 5 ) | TrackBackSarah from peta2 UK has a guest blog since she's out on tour with Rise Against. Have you been out to any of the shows? I wish I was there, but I'll have to wait til they get to the US!

My tabling wizard and I, Andy, hit up a couple of dates with Rise Against this week, spreading the message about peta2's latest campaign Meat's Not Green.
First stop was Liverpool, where Street Teamer James came down to help hand out some leaflets at the beginning of the night to all those eager fans queuing to get through the doors.

After Liverpool it was over to Leeds, where we stopped off at Little Tokyo for some amazing vegan food. Check out these 'Chickenless Legs' and some yummy spring rolls we had to eat ...

P.S. For all of your meat eating "environmentalist" friends, you should let them know about this article that talks about reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The Canadians: Killing Seals Tour 2008 August 21, 2008
Posted by Shannon Phillips at August 21, 2008 2:17 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 20 ) | TrackBackSo how absolutely badass are our friends over at peta2.de? (That's Germany, folks!) Answer? Completely badass. peta2.de have an amazing campaign that I want to show everyone - It's called "The Canadians" and it depicts a skeletal Canadian hunter that looks... well, strangely like a popular heavy metal icon. I'll give out awesome points to anyone who can name the icon I'm referring to!
So what's this Canada stuff all about? Well, every year in Canada, thousands of baby seals are killed by a method called "clubbing" (It's as awful as it sounds) for their fur. During the hunt, some seals are clubbed and skinned alive, even in front of their families. Even worse? The Canadian government approves of the hunt. Is this really necessary for vanity?
We don't think so, and neither do these guys:
So how can you help? You can help out by signing the petition against the brutal seal hunt in Canada, adding the MySpace page, wearing the shirt (they look just like band shirts!), and telling all your friends!
xoxo,
Shan

Anti-Flag
Like how my title got your attention? The peta2 road crew has been hanging out with Anti-Flag, The Code, and Bomb the Music Industry the past few days and it's been amazing and such an inspiration to be with so many positive people. All the guys in those bands are completely awesome, they know you can make a positive change in the world and still have an effing good time doing it. The main reason the peta2 road crew do these blogs is to show you how exciting life can be while making a positive change in the world at the same time. A great way to start is by interning for peta2 or joining our Street Team (that's how we all started).

Before we met up with Anti-Flag we drove all the way from the West coast to the East. We figured this would be a great opportunity to do a few Sexy Santa demos to show people you can still be fashionable without wearing fur, leather, or wool. Paige was awesome and toughed out the freezing cold weather while Cody, who wore like a million layers of clothing, complained about being cold.

Just a random note: To spice up our lives a little more, we added a holiday-festive-non-denominational-tree and candy canes to our table. Marta would be proud!

Anti-Flag Benefits Everyone! October 9, 2007
Posted by Nicole at October 9, 2007 1:57 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 0 ) | TrackBackSo our dear friends of Anti-Flag are doing good things again. No surprise there. The vegetarian four-some, who always go above and beyond to speak out against injustices around the world, have this time focused their compassion on a cause that has unfortunately impacted the guys on a personal level.

Earlier this year, Chris #2's sister was tragically taken as a result of a violent crime. In an effort to make something good come of this terrible event, the guys have just released A Benefit for Victims of Violent Crime. In true Anti-Flag fashion, this limited-edition EP was created with the goal of helping others. All proceeds from the CD, which features five new tracks and five live tracks, will be going to The Center for Victims of Violence and Crime, as well as different educational bonds.
I think it's so important to point out that research shows that a clear link definitely exists between cruelty to animals and cruelty to humans. People who commit acts of violence toward animals are likely to escalate toward humans. This is such a vital connection to remember and highlights why it is important that crimes against animals be taken seriously and punished to the full extent.
You love Anti-Flag, you love yourself some good punk rock, you love supporting a great cause, well there ya go. There's nothing to debate. It's all wrapped up in one nice lovely little package for you and it comes in the form of A Benefit for Victims of Violent Crime. Go buy this limited-edition EP today...before it's gone for good.
Hope all is lovely.
