MTVU Woodie Award Nominees October 14, 2009

Posted by Megan Rondeau at October 14, 2009 5:58 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 3 ) | TrackBack

Last week the nominees for the 2009 MTVU Woodie Awards were announced, and of course peta2 was repped hard! The Woodie Awards come around every December just in time to give college students a much needed break from cramming for exams. The show always hosts an impressive list of performers, including Gym Class Heroes, All Time Low, Imogen Heap, and Vampire Weekend, and this year should be just as amazing!

Death Cab for Cutie and Yeah Yeah Yeahs are both nominated for Best Video, which has previously been won by Motion City Soundtrack and Say Anything. Overnight sensation and vegetarian heartthrob Christofer Drew (a.k.a. Never Shout Never) is up for the Breaking Woodie award, which was taken home by There for Tomorrow at last year's festivities. Other notable peta2 contenders include Tech N9ne for Left Field Woodie and P.O.S. in the category with the fiercest competition, Performing Woodie. I gotta say, I saw P.O.S. a few times during my stay on Warped Tour this year and he killed it! He's got my vote! Who are you voting for?

All Time Low and Four Year Strong Think Animal Testing Breaks Hearts! August 21, 2009

Posted by Megan Rondeau at August 21, 2009 12:41 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 2 ) | TrackBack

I'm saddened to say that Warped Tour is quickly coming to an end. This Sunday marks the end of yet another summer for the iconic punk rock festival—the 15th summer to be exact! And as someone who has attended literally dozens of Warped Tour dates over the past 8 years, I have to say that it's still as good as ever! I was lucky enough to head out on the road with our amazing tour crew to talk to everyone from Anti-Flag to The Maine about why Animal Testing Breaks Hearts.

I hate to say that we saved the best petition signatures for last, but it's pretty effing sweet that the band whose album debuted at #4 in the country (All Time Low!) and just performed on Late Night with Conan O'Brien is all about signing some peta2 petitions! Oh yea and did I mention that I stopped by the Gig Life Tour to hang out with Four Year Strong, Set Your Goals, Fireworks, and The Swellers for a night? I gotta say, sometimes it's good being me!

I think my favorite show I went to all summer was the Four Year Strong/Set Your Goals show in Richmond! What was your best show of the summer?

Hey, It's Nothing Personal! July 7, 2009

Posted by Shannon Phillips at July 7, 2009 12:47 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 22 ) | TrackBack

If you've logged into your Twitter account today (follow us!), you may have seen something out of the ordinary in the trending topics ...

Exhibit A:

So what is #nothingpersonal anyway? "Nothing Personal" refers to the super sweet All Time Low album that hits the shelves in your local music store today. Not only that, but it also refers to an ongoing joke regarding the album's title and some All Time Low merch bearing the slogan that started this Twitter craze: "@All Time Low: Your New Album Sucks ... Nothing Personal!"

Naturally, fans wanted to get in on the fun, so the band—along with our friends at Glamour Kills— have set up a website where fans can interact each other and post their best "nothing personal" jokes here. Following suit, we want to give you a chance to send us your best "nothing personal" themed jokes, but with an animal rights twist.

Example: "You might be cute if you didn't stuff your face full of animal corpses—Nothing Personal!"

So, what are you waiting for? For your chance to win a copy of All Time Low's new album Nothing Personal, leave us a comment with your best animal themed "nothing personal" joke. The three most creative responses will be chosen as winners. Entries must be received by July 21 and winners will be notified by July 28.

Just so you know ... by commenting here, you're acknowledging that you've read and agreed to our privacy policy. Also by commenting, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions.

Michelle Star - Fur Is Dead! March 21, 2008

Posted by Lara Sanders at March 21, 2008 12:03 PM | Permalink | Comments ( 0 ) | TrackBack

Hey guys! I have another "Fur Is Dead" supporter for you...the lovely and talented, Michelle Star! Michelle is a cutting-edge music and fashion photographer, who has worked with everyone from All Time Low to Pink to Plain White T's.

She also shoots for clothing companies like peta2 fave Skelanimals, and shot all of the gorgeous "Fur Is Dead" ads you have been enjoying these last few weeks.

Take a peek at Michelle's beautiful self-portrait below, and then check out our Q&A with her!

Michelle%20Star.jpg

What do you define as your personal style?
I am influenced by a lot of independent designers and the music industry. As far as clothing goes, I keep it simple, but like wearing a lot of different accessories. Even though I wear a lot of black, I like incorporating color into my style by dyed hair, tattoos and accessories. It's hard to define a person's style, but overall I like being creative and unique. Being that I am a photographer, I am drawn to interesting people, and love being creative in everything that I do.

Do you have any fashion "do's" and "don'ts"?
I would just say wear what you feel comfortable wearing that goes with your personal style, and don't try to wear things other people do just to try and fit in. As far as what not to wear I am sure there are a million things I could say, but I am going to stick with not wearing fur.

Why do you choose not to wear real fur?
I wouldn't wear my dog's fur so why would I wear fur from any other animal? I think it's cruel to kill animals for fashion. Every creature should have a right to live free from pain and suffering.

What is your favorite animal? Why?
When I was younger my favorite animals were panda bears and polar bears because they are just so cute, but I fell in love with dogs once I got an Italian Greyhound. She is so playful and loving and has a personality of her own.

Do you have a favorite vegetarian dish? If so, what is it?
I like a lot of different pastas and I am also a big fan of edamame.

Thanks girl! I actually just met Michelle at SXSW and she is just as cool in person as she sounds. Speaking of cool, have you played our new Skelanimals Quiz yet?

xoxo-Lara
