What Are You Giving up for Lent This Year?

Posted on February 21, 2012 at 6:05 pm | Permalink | Comments (10)

Still haven't decided what you should give up for Lent this year? Check out our suggestions! :)

During Lent, many people choose to fast or give up animal products—like meat and dairy products—as a form of penitence or to be forgiven for their sins. Lent is great time for people who want to eat healthier and make a positive and rewarding change in their life.

Animals never get a break from abuse and exploitation, but you can help them by going vegan during Lent. Animals on factory farms are crammed together in warehouses or on dry lots full of their excrement and other sick and dying animals. When the animals arrive at the slaughterhouse, workers pay little attention to their weak bodies, and many animals are still conscious when they are hacked apart.

Not only is going vegan the best way to help farmed animals, but you'll also reduce your risk of obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis, heart disease, and cancer by removing meat, dairy products, and eggs from your diet.

So what are you waiting for?! Clean out that fridge and replace animal-derived products with lots of fruits and veggies, tofu, mock meats, and nondairy milks such as soy, almond, rice, or hemp! :)

And don't forget to ask your fam to join you in going vegan for Lent!

What can you cook for meals? The possibilities are endless. Check out our recipes and What to Eat guide to get started!

  1. During Lent I don't eat meat (obviously) but I decided to stop eating candy. It's affecting my health, and health comes first :)

Already veggie, so vegan and no junk food. Despite how much junk food I eat the rest of the year, I never miss it during Lent.. weird.

BEEF, PORK, AND CHIKEN???IT'S RIDICULOUS AND I FEEL LIKE SUCH A HYPOCRITE. I WILL STOP EATING MEAT DURING LENT AND THAT WILL BE MY JUMP START.

DON'T BUY MARY KAY, AVON AND ESTEE LAUDER!! THEY TEST THEIR F____PRODUCTS ON ANIMALS AND THE VIDEO TURNED MY STOMACH. PLEASE VIEW IT SO YOU KNOW HOW HOUR ANIMALS SUFFER!! IT'S DISGUSTING AND THE TECHNICIANS ARE HEARTLESS MONSTERS!!
