Recipe of the Week: Cutest Smoothies Alive

Posted on June 10, 2010 at 11:03 am | Permalink | Comments (4)

Alright, so you've checked out the winners of peta2's Cutest Vegetarian Alive contest, right?! They were announced on Tuesday! Turns out, there are a few things that both Joe Jackson and Alex-Chelsea Patterson have in common (other than being super cute!)—they're both vegan, and they both love smoothies! Well, coincidentally, our Recipe of the Week theme for June is smoothies (chosen by you!), so we're featuring a smoothie recipe from both Cutest Veg winners. Check it out.

First up is Joe's favorite smoothie, made with very vanilla soy milk, avocados and bananas!

What you'll need:
  • 1 cup of very vanilla soy milk (I actually used unsweetened vanilla almond milk—worked great!)
  • 2 bananas
  • 1 avocado, cut in two—use as much as you want. I used almost the entire thing.

This part is usually easy, but last night my two kitties just would NOT get out of my business—so it took me a bit longer. But just throw everything into your blender, blend to perfection (this smoothie is ultra creamy) and drink! Yum! I think this would also be good with some sprinkled cinnamon on top, if you have some on hand.

Last but not least, here's Alex-Chelsea's fav smoothie (she loves it so much, she even made a YouTube video about it!).

What you'll need:
  • 1 peeled banana
  • 4 cups of ice
  • 4 whole strawberries
  • 1 cup soy chocolate milk
  • 1 tablespoon of chocolate powder

By now, I think you get the idea—throw everything into your blender and hit blend (Alex-Chelsea uses puree) until it's all good and smooth, like any smoothie should be!

Yum! What do you think of these two cute smoothies?

Stay loud!

I love avocado smoothies. Never really tried mixing it up with banana though. Trying this later, I'm sure this would be perfect for my kiddo! Thanks a lot.

i wouldnt put as much ice in it at the recipe calls for. all the ice makes the smoothie and have less of a taste, the taste kinda mild i guess. and if you want more you can always add more!
