The Lives of Famous Men

Michael Spear Hawkins
This installment of the 5 Questions Blog is all about The Lives of Famous Men. Not the kind of famous men whose lives we already know far too much about (cough ... Tiger Woods ... cough) but the 5 piece pop-rock band from Alaska! These guys took some time out of their busy schedule to tell us why vegetarianism is part of their lives. Here is the band's keyboardist, Jason, in his own words:
What prompted you to become vegetarian? Were there any bands, books, etc. that influenced your decision?
Jason: I saw a statistic on the amount of chicken poop in every pound of chicken. It was astonishing. For Dan (vocals), it was reading a short story called Adios, Cordera!
The "I Am Not A Nugget" campaign had a big influence on my decision. Also, our first real tour was with a band called YouInSeries, a few of whom were vegetarian and vegan and had some interesting things to say about cattle farming and its contribution to climate change.
What are some of your favorite vegetarian and/or vegan foods?
Hummus! That is definitely our favorite vegetarian snack. I also make a mean vegetarian chili.
Of all of the major animal rights issues are there any that are particularly close to your heart?
I would probably say factory farming. Just seeing video of the conditions that these animals live in was enough to make me sick to my stomach.
If a fan were to approach you with questions about how to get involved with animal rights, what advice would you give him or her?
I would tell them that a good place to start would be peta2.com.
What do you guys have coming up that we can be looking forward to?
We are releasing our new EP, Sunshine, on December 22, 2009.
Thanks for sitting down for peta2 guys! Keep an eye on the band's MySpace, Purevolume, etc. and be sure to support them when they come through your town. And pick up their new EP, Sunshine, on 12/22!

!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks SO MUCH PETA2!!!
So...I live in Alaska...And there's hardly any bands here. I currently have only one local band i like (Heifa), so it's awesome to hear about another band close to home. And ESPECIALLY one that agrees with me about animal rights and such. That's so sweet. I'm loading their Myspace right now. =) I know I'm gonna love 'em!
Thanks Peta. You guys rock!
