Lowe's glue traps Dollar General
After we received complaints that Dollar General, which has thousands of stores across the U.S., was selling hideously cruel glue traps, we wrote to the bargain retailer. In our letter, we described how animals who get stuck on glue traps can suffer for days before finally dying of starvation or dehydration. Many victims of glue traps rip their skin from their own faces and bodies as they try to escape, and some resort to chewing off their own limbs while trying to free themselves. We also let the company know that there are plenty of humane ways to deal with mice and rats.
Dollar General responded to our letter by announcing that it will stop selling glue traps. Just like that. The company reviewed the information we presented and simply made a compassionate decision. Isn't that awesome?!
Dollar General joins other large retailers, including Albertsons, Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, and Safeway, that have stopped selling glue traps after discussions with PETA.
Please thank the company for its decision—and then ask the home-improvement chain Lowe's to stop selling glue traps!
Thank you so much for being such compassionate and dedicated individuals.

Posted by: Michelle at October 24, 2009 4:42 PMthis is wonderful! my local dollar general is quite vegan-friendly, so i really didn't want to have to boycott them. i can buy plain or vanilla soymilk, thai kitchen microwavable foods(which are usually vegan!), & instant mashed potatoes without animal products in them! :D so thanks DG for not selling inhumane traps!!

Man, it's such a welcome thought to know that the idea of actually treating our inferiors with compassion is finally catching on.
Posted by: Attar at October 25, 2009 2:48 PMEven though mice and rats are not many people's favorite animals, it is still difficult to think that mice and rats have endured the things you mentioned...skin ripped off and chewing off limbs. I am so glad PETA was successful in getting Dollar General to stop selling them; I never even really noticed that they did sell them.
Thanks, PETA!!!
Posted by: Jessica Holly at November 4, 2009 11:14 AMthank you for initating this - it just goes to show when people band together for the common good, great things can and do happen!!
Posted by: liz at November 4, 2009 11:41 AMWOW, thats great ! As the owner of pet mice, i think this is a great victory. Mice have feeling just like any other animal. Would anyone ever think of torturing & killing a PET in this way ? Well, mice are pets & they do have personalites & for sure feel pain. I salute the Dollar General for their compassionate dicision to stop selling those inhumane traps !
Posted by: donna soli at November 4, 2009 11:54 AMOh thank God you did this!!! I have a shameful story share.
One day I was in my basement and saw the signs of a mouse so I went to my hardware store and asked about mouse traps, but said whatever I used I wanted to throw it away with the dead mouse, they suggested a glue trap, not thinking, I bought the sticky trap home and put it where it appeared he came in. Well I forgot about it for a few days and when I had the courage to look, I was horrified at what I found, a beautiful mouse and two babies all dead! I put the second sticky trap on top of them and buried them and put a cement mouse memorial>> I never wanted to forget that thoughtless, heartless, nightmare...
well done PETA.
Posted by: chander kumar soni at November 4, 2009 2:08 PMI am so thrilled to hear this news. What a victory!!!! Awesome, awesome, awesome!!!!! I am looking forward to more success stories to come. Fabulous job PETA!!!!
Posted by: Michelle Marj at November 4, 2009 2:11 PMHey Michelle do you really buy food from the dollar store, that can't be a healthy thing to do. I shop in the dollar store but would never buy food in one of them. Most of the food is from other countries that have lax standards when it comes to food production not that the U.S. is any spectacular example either but I'd stay clear of the Dollar Menu food just like I'd stay clear of Mcdeaths entire menu.

Posted by: Dave Strohmayer at November 4, 2009 7:50 PMNice one PETA :) Nice to hear of a company actually taking responsibility for once.
Posted by: jono at November 4, 2009 8:00 PMit is awesome. one letter and a large retailer stops selling them. the end. if all our requests were responded to in such a fashion, what a wonderful world it would be. dollar general needs to hear from us, and we need to shop there, and tell the places that sell them we're NOT shopping there and why.
and go after lowe's heavy duty so we'll have an alternative to name after they relent, and we can boycott all the other hardwares.
is there a hardware anywhere with management like dollar general? apparently not.
Posted by: Joellen at November 5, 2009 12:15 AMWell done but still a way to go, let's hope the other companies follow the wonderful decision of Dollar General.
Posted by: Lynda at November 5, 2009 1:20 AMI wish all of the other stores had some sympathy in them to also put an end to inhumanly killing these poor creatures.
