Cobra Starship and a Mouse September 3, 2009

There has been a hot mess making its way across the U.S. and luckily for me that hot mess was Cobra Starship, who stopped in DC for a show at the Rock and Roll Hotel. So the peta2 Street Team came out in full force talking with fans about the suffering of animals in labs for consumer products with the Animal Testing Breaks Hearts petition. It's crazy to think that millions of rats, mice, and rabbits this year will suffer in labs for lipstick, laundry detergent and other consumer products.

The show was awesome—Cobra Starship rocked the crowd and made the good girls go bad. Nicole even met Robby Reider, the bassist for Friday Night Boys.

After the show, Cobra Starship alerted us to a mouse caught in a glue trap in their dressing room. The mouse was struggling desperately to escape from the tray of sticky glue and everyone was worried about his safety. Animals in glue traps suffer greatly as they struggle to escape and die a slow painful death. Quickly Chrissy, one of the peta2 Road Warriors, remembered that oil can help free an animal from a glue trap. We talked with the staff and they were shocked to hear the facts about animals caught in glue traps. Glue traps are incredibly cruel pest-control devices where animals suffer for days before dying from starvation, dehydration, self-mutilation, and shock. Many animals break bones, rip off patches of fur and skin, and suffer other injuries struggling to escape the trap. The staff got oil to Chrissy right away. She carefully applied the oil around the mouse's legs and he worked his way free!

Chrissy is a Rock and Roll animal hero!

The Rock and Roll Hotel has accepted 6 Humane "Smart" Mousetraps from PETA to replace those cruel glue traps! So mad props to Cobra Starship for being friends to the animals, Chrissy for her quick thinking, and Rock and Roll Hotel for making a compassionate choice.

If you want to be a hero for animals, take action now against Lowe's which continues to sell glue traps even after being shown graphic photos and footage of animals caught in glue traps.

Smiles!—Regina

Yay! I'm so glad you managed to free the mouse and change the hotel's mind about glue traps.

That's amazing! I love Cobra Starship so hearing that story only makes me love them more! And its great that the mouse lived, too. Happy day.
