I don't think that the "Be Nice, Don't Slice" really tells people what the campaign is about, because it could work for a lot of the other campaigns in a way (animal testing, meat industry).

"Cut Out Dissection" and "Dissection is Dead Wrong" don't seem very catchy and original.

"Dissection Doesn't Cut it" is just alright, because it does bring up how there are better and more useful alternatives, but I don't think most would get that from the slogan.

I like "Teach Respect, Don't Dissect", because it brings up how cruel and inhumane dissection really is just from the slogan. I think it will get people to want to read more about the campaign.

"Cut Class, Not Frongs" I also really like, because it is really catchy and straight forward. We want people to choose not to dissect, and look for an alternative.

I think "Teach Respect, Don't Dissect" is my favotire, but "Cut Class, Not Frogs" is a close second.

I think "Teach Respect, Don't Dissect" is the best one. It tells what the entire campaign is about: Respect for animals.

"Teach Respect, Don't Dissect" is my favorite out of the new ones you have, because i think it is catchiest out of them and it really does tell you the whole campaign that dissection is wrong and we should respect life.

but i still love "Cut Class, Not Frogs", because it's super catchy and it gets people talking.

"Cut Class, Not Frogs" is okay, but I personally never cut class when I was in highschool :p I didn't cut frogs either :D

i don't like "cut class, not frogs" because it doesn't seem appropriate to be spreading it out in school. it would make it harder for principals and teachers to approve in spreading the word.
"teach respect, don't dissect" sounds kinda boring.but my favorite is "dissection doesn't cut it" it's funny.

I've always liked "Cut class not frogs". It made me laugh the 1st time I saw it on a T-shirt. While I think that's a nice slogan, I also "Teach Respect, Don't Dissect" is catchy too!

I like the ''Teach respect, don't dissect'' best because it teaches people that non-human animals deserve consideration for their welfare/rights also. i like the ''cut class, not frogs'' but it would be hard to spread around school because i dont think the teachers, etc. would appreciate telling the students to cut class.

I like cut out dissection. My school district dissects pig fetus's instead of frogs (gross isnt it?) So whenever I try and use my peta2 handouts they dont really relate to what Im trying to stop. Many different kinds of animals are dissected now a days.

i really like teach respect dont dissect because its sharing about how we want to teach others what were doing to animals as were slicing them inhumanely :p

Yeah get rid of the "Cut Class, Not Frogs" slogan. It's too liberal for people to agree with the message. I think "Cut Out Dissection" is straightforward and simple. Plus it gets the message out!

My boyfriend seems to like those two as well.

I agree with Joanna. This is like encouraging students to cut classes than to learn with "Cut Class not Frogs". They should have used other words to present their idea, like "Be nice, don't slice" or "teach respect, don't dissect". Those phrases are good.

Your current campaign is great I think it gets the point across really well, but if you HAVE to change it, go with one of these:
Dissection Doesn't Cut It
Dissection Is Dead Wrong

Posted by: Hamel Kothari at July 9, 2009 9:09 AM

Glad you asked for feedback! I hate the current slogan because it would seem to encourage students to just skip their classes. I don't think this is a message we need in society! Even if students really disagree with dissection, nobody is going to be persuaded if students just refuse to show up for class; more is gained when students explain in a reasonable and non-emotional way the reasons against dissection.

"Teach Respect, Don't Dissect" is great and I hope it will replace the current slogan. It's catchy, pithy, and really communicates the heart of what we believe - compassion and respect for all creatures!

I like "Teach Respect, Don't Dissect".

I agree with the others that "Cut Class, Not Frogs" is not an appropriate slogan for schools. Encouragement to cut class is not something we should be doing, no matter how good the intentions are.

I love them all :)

especially, Teach Respect, Don't Dissect.

I like Teach Respect, Don't Dissect best. I do like the cut class not frogs (I have the t-shirt with it on), but people may take that literally & not show up for school. I think the teach respect one is great, because that is what it is all about. Trying to educate school children to have respect for all life, & make them realize its not ours to take.

Posted by: Hannah Jarvis at July 9, 2009 9:51 AM

Actually a computer generated dissection is more cost effective, and more accurate. No worries about allergic reactions to formaldehyde, and very little can be gained from a real dissection.

Posted by: Luke Swanhart at July 9, 2009 10:05 AM

I've always loved "Cut Class, Not Frogs." I was discussing dissection with my mom at the store one day and got kind of passionate about it, so I started chanting "cut class, not frogs." I was just having fun, but people kept looking at me, so maybe I got a few people thinking, lol.

But I agree with some of the other people, it's not the best slogan to pass around schools. Teachers probably won't be sympathetic if you're telling their students, even in jest, to ditch classes. So, I think the second best one is "Teach Respect, Don't Dissect." It's still catchy and tells them the point you're trying to get across.

i like "teach respect, don't dissect". "cut class, not frogs" is catchy, but i think it ignores the problem & avoids it. if kids just skip class on dissection day (what i originally did in school), everybody else will still do it. only by confronting the "system", which i did, will you STOP dissection. we must educate people on why this is wrong, avoiding the problem may save one or 2 frogs, but by confronting the schools, staging protests, petitions, meetings with school & district officials, etc, WILL STOP DISSECTIONS. i know this works, because i did it & they started offering an alternative for those of us that don't want to dissect, & now my old school uses a computer program to simulate dissection & doesn't use frogs anymore :)

I really like the slogan Teach Respect, Don't Dissect

It provides other ideas that make sense. I agree with the other poster above that the current slogan is not smart. You want to make people take notice and stop dissecting frogs and other animals not make them laugh at the campaign because it is encouraging students to cut class. Like that is ok or something.

The slogan "Teach Respect, Don't Dissect" is the best one teach kids to respect animals not kill them.

''cut class not frogs" is kind of funny...i've found that every time someone hears/sees it they laugh. Which i guess is good cause then they're more likely to remember it and not just blow it off. When i gave out stickers for the yearbook thing the cut class one was pretty popular.

"Cut Class, Not Frogs" is encouraging students to cut class and we all know that while that is the easier thing to do (like eating animals) it is not the right thing.

"Teach Respect, Don't Dissect" is definitely the best there.

Perhaps something along the lines of "Would you cut a kitten?" could also be useful.

"cut class not frogs" is very clever but i think some teachers, as well as parents, would get angry. skipping class isn't a good message to portray..

I really like CUT CLASS, NOT FROGS because I feel as though the message is very broad within those four words. And its really saying that dissecting frogs is much more worst than cutting class (And we all know how bad it is to cut class, I'm sure!) So yea, I definitely like it more than any other slogan.

Posted by: Lilly at July 9, 2009 12:18 PM

My favorite is "Teach Respect, Don't Dissect." I think that it says in 4 words exactly the point I would want to get across. The reason I didn't dissect because I respect animals, and other reasons as well, but that makes the most sense for people out there now who think dissection is ok. It is also a catchy phrase because it rhymes. :)
The "Cut class, not frogs" is catchy and creative, but it does send a bad message to kids to cut class...I mean I refused to dissect but I didn't cut class, and my teachers were able to give me special accommodations.

I personally like "teach respect dont dissect" because at my daughters school here in Australia, they dissect Animal organs such as Cows eye balls! I know its discusting. Hey heres another one... Dissection is discusting! Lol!
Anyhow when I voiced my discust at the dissection of Animal organs, everyone I spoke to at the school defended it by saying "The Cows were already dead anyway!" Its not the point, I told them they should be teaching respect to the children but they were not even phased that I keep my daughter home from school when they do dissection. Sorry for going on with this but I dont have much support here where i live. Thanks for letting me have my say, Lisa Rees x

I like Teach Respect, Don't Dissect the best because it really just gets right to the point. Cut Class Not Frogs seems to encourage students to cut class, while that is fun, it's not right. We want people to take us seriously and look into it more, not just laugh at a silly slogan.

Besides, a lot of schools don't dissect frogs. My old middle school dissected cow eyes.

Hi

I think Disection doesnt cut it says it all.

I went to school in Denmark, and we dont diseact frogs here. I don't know whether they do it in other European countries, but I think not.

It doesnt make us any less educated, so it is totally pointless !!

I know you guys don't like to dissect animals and things, but you don't really say why it is so cruel and inhumane. I'm confused on how dissection is cruel and in humane? Its a process to teach how the processes of life are carried out. f

I never really liked "cut class, not frogs" peta2 is supposed to be about doing what is right and finding an alternative to hurting animals. I believe "teach respect, don't dissect" is a more modern and correct way of getting the point across. Also it doesn't just focus on the dissection of frogs, it focuses on the dissection of all animals.

Posted by: Courtney at July 9, 2009 12:41 PM

i like the "Teach Respect, Don't Dissect!" quotation because it cuts out all confusion. you know that its about dissection and nothing else.
and "Cut Class,Not Frogs" is good to, but what about all the other animals that classrooms dissect. My sister had to dissect a street cat once in her science class. i was very upset.

My favorite is "Teach Respect, Don't Dissect" because it does kind of remind people the morals being broken in a class room.

The thing about "Cut Class, not Frogs" that for one, not just frogs are dissected and two I have heard some teachers complain that that motto encourages kids just to cut class rather than bring the issue up in class when it comes time to dissect. And that doesnt fix the problem at your school, that just gets you in trouble (Altough our street team convinced the science teachers to stop :D)

Posted by: Tara at July 9, 2009 1:04 PM

Teach respect, Don't dissect, because my school dissects rats. The frogs thing kind of doesn't work for that, on t-shirts or flyers. I feel like kids in our school need to learn that a life should be respected whether it be a dog's life or a rat's life.

Posted by: Emily at July 9, 2009 1:12 PM

I like "Teach Respect, Don't Dissect." "Cut Class, Not Frogs" could cause administrators at schools to get mad about the 'cut class' part.
I actually got some girls in my tenth grade class to talk with me to the teacher about not dissecting, and he canceled the dissection and moved on to another lesson.

"Teach Respect, Don't Dissect." is the best slogan if you are gearing it toward older folks like say, teachers and college students. It will show them the value in teaching respect for life over a ridiculous and pointless dissection experiment.

I think the "Cut Class, Not Frogs" slogan is perfect for teenagers because they are always looking for a rebellious outlet and are naturally drawn to those types of things. Cutting class is an extreme act of rebellion, therefore, I think the kids would be more drawn to that slogan.

I know there will be naysayers who think that the latter slogan will promote bad behavior at school, but really, we aren't talking about violence, we are talking about standing up for what we believe in and if that means cutting class, so be it. The same people who knock this stuff are the same people who had sit ins in protest to the Vietnam war... Talk about losing touch!!

As a teacher, I have to agree with Claire in "Teach Respect, Don't Dissect" compared to "Cut Class, not Frogs". Your own information on the back is explaining the alternatives such as computer based programs. I really feel as if the slogan and message do not match up, which is vital in a marketing campaign that they do. Something even as "Use Tech, Don't Dissect" shows even in its slogan the alternative and people will begin to wonder how technology can be used instead.

I'm with the 'teach respect, don't dissect' gang. I like 'cut class, not frogs' but I agree with those who've said it'd be hard for teachers and principals to approve and it gives the pro-dissection lobby ammunition against us. 'teach respect, don't dissect' has a very clear message and takes the moral high ground without preaching. it encourages people to discuss the issues around dissection and has crossover appeal. I can imagine a slogan as easy to understand and as difficult to argue againt actually changing peoples minds, whereas the frog slogan will only preach to the converted.

I think "Dissection doesn't cut it" is best. If you use the words "cut class", it appears you're discouraging education, staying in school, etc. Sets you up for bad press and exploitation. Use a slogan that encourages education and staying in school, AND that shows students can still receive an equally thorough education WITHOUT the use of dissecting animals. GOOD LUCK!!! Thank you.

Dissection is pointless and wrong, the only way it would be alright, if the animal died of a natural cause. As being a Vegetarian myself we did dissection of a pigs heart in biology, but i could'nt do it.

But what i want to know, if a person is forced into doing it for a class.

I've always loved "Cut class, not frogs" just because of the alliteratory pleasure and the play on the word "cut." But now that I think of it, I guess the rebellious undertones are unnecessary. It could give people the wrong message about our movement.

I like both "Teach Respect, Don't Dissect" and "Be Nice, Don't Slice," but I prefer the latter because the rhyme is simpler. I think those are the only two that keep the focus directly on the issue and get to the point, while still sounding good.

i like Teach Respect, Don't Dissect it's straight to the point and the point is to respect animals.
Cut Class, Not Frogs is good too, but it leaves out other animals that some schools have to dissect as well.

I like "Teach Respect, Don't disect". I think that it has the best and most clear message to it. I think that "Cut class not frogs" sends the wrong message because i think people need to be educated on issues not skipping out.

I like Cut Class Not Frogs because when I was in the seventh grade for my life science class we had to disect frogs. I was really interested in learning about it but not enough to pretty much carve the poor thing. So me and my friend that I was partnered up with went to the teacher and asked if we could not participate in it because it was nasty watching other classmates doing it. He said that if we didn't do the disection we would fail the term because it was a end of the term test something like that. I tried my best to get myself out of doing the dissection but it didnt work. I felt so badly that I did it and at the end of the year we had to fill out a survey saying what we liked and disliked about the class and i said the thing i disliked was the dissection. because i asked not to participate and i wasnt allowed to. I also suggested dropping the whole thing but they didn't listen.

I am not a big fan of "cut class not frogs", I believe it gives teachers a reason to disregard the slogan. "Teach respect, don't dissect" is my favorite. It really shows the immorality of our society and education system.

I feel kinda bad now, before I became a vegetarian dissections were my favorite part of biology :S

Definitely "Teach Respect, Don't Dissect." Respect is the most important thing any one can learn, whether it be respect for animals, respect for yourself, or respect for others, it can really change your life. We should promote a respectful way of telling teachers that the student simply won't dissect things instead of telling them to cut class.
(And I am actually in high school right now, so I am totally privileged to say that :p)

"teach respect don't dissect." is my favorite.
last year on disection day a few of my friends and i (even some of the non-vegetarin ones that thought sliceing frogs open was nasty) went to a concert instead :) all we had to do was fill out the same work-sheet that the other kids did in class. we just used an on-line program. it was easy and we all got A's anyway. :)

I have actually never encountered dissection in education and I'm in 3rd year at University. At main campus of the University of Western Ontario there is a lot of dissection occuring in the sciences, but in it's affiliates, where I am located. I personally like the one "cut class, not frogs", but it may not appeal to many people who are dead against "cuttin class" I think "cut out dissection is a nice play with words, but I believe the true message resides in "teach respect, don't disect" and "dissection is dead wrong", because these messages appeal to most people, who are against killing and death and for treating others with respect.

I don't like "Cut Class, Not Frogs" because:

1. It's telling students to ditch their classes.
2. It's far better to stand up for animals by being in class and educating people about why it's wrong.

I really like these ones though ;)
* Cut Out Dissection
* Teach Respect, Don't Dissect ( * Be Nice, Don't Slice

Teach Respect, Don't Dissect is the best because schools do aim for you to be respectful, and yet they are hypocritical by conducting dissections. This clearly points that out. The phrase, cut class not frogs is not, in my opinion, the best phrase. #1. In class, we dissect more than frogs. #2. cutting class is not ideal for an intelligent world. My parents, already against my joining PETA2, refuse to allow me to post Cut class, not frogs posters.

I don't like it because it is influencing kids to cut class; therefore not educate themselves. I like •Be Nice, Don't Slice better

k so I think that cut class, not frogs is a good slogan that should be kept. It gets the message across and a lot of teens like this slogan. A lot of my friends are vegetarians and against animal cruelty. I help them support these things and respect their opinions and I'm deffinitly against other forms of animal cruelty even though I'm not a vegetarian. This slogan is original and fun and I think a lot of teens would like a change, but some would also get mad if there was a new slogan for dissection. "cut class not frogs" is fun, original, and should not be changed in my opinion.

I like the original.. Cut class, not frogs isn't just a slogan, it actually has an example of the problem in it. If you INSIST on changing it, Cut Out Dissection and Teach Respect, Don't Dissect are the only ones that are not too cheesy or bland.

Teach Respect, Don't Dissect is the best one!

Your current slogen cut class not frogs sends the message that cutting class is ok or cool to youth...well at least in my opinion.

I really like the Frog slogan, because Frogs are one of the main creatures that schools like to use for dissections. My schools made you do the dissections, otherwise you'd fail the class. So I really like the slogan, and the general topic, because I think something needs to be done about dissection in general.

"Cut Class, Not Frogs" is and always will be my favorite. I understand people think the "cut class" part is wrong, but I'd rather get a zero on one assignment than lose my morals, but that's just me. If you guys absolutely had to change it my SECOND favorite is "Be nice, Don't Slice". But I think the "Cut class, not frogs" goes along with "Qestion authority" very nicely.

I think all of those ideas are just phenomenal!! All of them are short and sweet and get the point across quickly with straight to the point, catchy phrases. My three favorites are:

Be nice, dont slice because it rhymes and it sounds like something a bunch of students could use to protest disection.

Teach respect, dont dissect because it shows what PETA is basically all about, respect for animals and it shows that we arent respecting the animals when we dissect them, and respect is a big thing in this country.

Cut class, not frogs, because it shows that we should protest and cutting class isnt as big as cutting an animal that was killed for the dissection.

But I love all of them!!!

I really like the "Be Nice, Don't Slice" since most people seem to remember that one easily. And "Dissection Doesn't Cut It" works too - reminds people that there is some actual cutting involved in dissection (which, oddly enough, still surprises some people)
But "Teach Respect, Don't Dissect", I think is the most important, because people really need to learn that we should respect animals, not slice them up to check out the inner workings. You know how on medical sheets, there's a line for people to write in that their beliefs do not allow a blood transfusion/etc? There should be some sort of paper that people can fill out to inform all faculty involved that they don't believe in dissection - you can't get penalized for your beliefs, so..........

I'm a teacher and I like the slogan 'Teach Respect, Don't Dissect'. All teachers want to be able to teach respect to their students so I think this one will really make science teachers think about respectful alternatives to dissection.

I like "Teach Respect, Don't Dissect." This is a message teachers and principals would take more seriously. It shows the campaign is about respecting animals and not about cutting classes... although personally i think that slogan (Cut Class, Not Frogs) is very clever!

I really like "Cut Class, Not Frogs" because back in high school that was the slogan on the stickers all over my biology notebooks and i confronted my biology teacher on why we should ban dissection from schools and told her that I would not be attending her class as long as dissection was in it. so the teacher found an alternative. a computer program that was a virtual dissection. so i felt great after she offered that to the class instead of cutting up helpless animals.

OKAY WELL, in my grade 11 bio class we were supposed to dissect rats for the last section of our body unit or whatever... and i calmly took my teacher aside, explained to her my problems with the dissection, and she was nice enough to let me just stand there the whole 3 days while my partner did all the dirty work LOL... I think that if teachers would give EVERYBODY that choice than the issue wouldn't be as large.

I really like "cut class, not frogs" because it's straightforward, but catchy. I also like "teach respect, don't dissect" because it addresses the point of courtesy towards the animals' lives. I'm in high school, and I'm trying to think of a way to get out of dissection when it comes around. The whole idea grosses me out, let alone the poor frogs!

I prefer "Teach Respect, Don't Dissect" or "Be Nice, Don't Slice" because a lot of people can get the wrong idea and think you're telling them to cut class. Then they won't really be listening to the underline issue.

I like Cut class not frogs, but Teach Respect, Don't Disect says way more. You want a catchy slogan that also drives the message. In a nutshell, that says it all. The others are cute, but don't convey the message.

I like all of the new ones because they don't say what they are dissecting just that its bad and it's hard to do the "cut class, not frogs" campaign at my school because we dissect pigs which i think is worse than a little frog but i don't like dissection of any animal.

ummm, actually I think it should be redone so its not all "cut class not frogs" and such because the schools around here dissect numerous types of animals and frogs are not the only one. I was able to get out of frog dissection by honestly almost throwung up when the teacher pulled a frog out, but I failed biology because i wouldn't at least watch someone disect the fetal pig D: I have to retake the class this school year so some stuff to use would be nice Dx
