Hundreds Killed in Spain July 15, 2009

As you may have heard, for the first time in nearly 15 years, a human died after being gored by a bull at this year's Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain.

Anybody have a guess how many of the bulls died this year after being gored by humans?

All of them.

Every year, all bulls who are sent charging down the narrow, winding streets of Pamplona end up in the bullring. We're not talking about one bull here. We're talking hundreds and hundreds over the course of 15 years.

Now, I'm no Alberto Einstein, but it seems to me that when a blood "sport" like bullfighting (or "bullstabbing", as I call it) revolves entirely around provoking and torturing animals, some humans are bound to get hurt too, or even die.

What do you think? Is this a fluke tragedy, deserving of sympathy for the human victim? Or is it the inevitable result of hosting a cruel event that routinely tortures and slaughters hundreds of animals?

i don't understand how this is considered fun for these people. i think they need to wake up and think about how people could get hurt and especially how all of these bulls are dying just for the "fun" of it!

I agree. But what I cannot understand is why PETA and other animal welfare groups don't take a MUCH more agressive stand against this horrific annual ritual. Nothing is more brutal than what they do to these animals in the name of "sport". Why doesn't PETA do more to stop this or bring it's brutality more to the public's attention?

I must say, though I've thought it is horrible, I have never thought about it in this sense. Obviously the latter.

the person got what they deserved
more of the people should have gotten hurt maybe then ppl would see how stupid this "tradition" is and they would end it

I have no sympathy for the bull fighter who died. Kama's a B!T@H, and he got what he deserved.

i don't agree with the Running of the Bull's. I don't think the victim deserves my sympathy. I know that sounds rude and horrible but those people should be aware of what they are getting them selves into. The bulls are much larger than any human. I find it very alarming that all the bulls are being killed during this event. It is wrong.

About damn time the bulls fought back! That's just disgusting to treat a living, breathing animal like that. It's unfortunate that humans had to die for people to see that this isn't a sport and my heart goes out to the families, but it was their own fault most likely. Mess with the bull, you'll get the horns.

Exactly! Why have sympathy for someone who liked/supported it? I mean it sucks that you died, but when hundreds of bulls were murdered and then one persons killed they spread it on the news, that's just bull!

Let's stop and have a little think about this, it's called "running with the bulls" the people are obviously putting themselves into danger after pissing off bulls who have done nothing to them to begin with. It's ridiculous that they make a huge deal out of people that get hurt, it's their own damn fault. It should be an activity that is banned due to animal abuse whether it's just the physical stabbing, or even just the emotion abuse that's involved to actually make the bulls chase people through the streets. How about these "oh poor human, who gives a shit about the animal" people should pull their heads out....

While the person was more than likely brought up thinking that bullfighting, or in this case the running down the streets thing that they do every year, was perfectly okay, it's still not a good thing, obviously.

The person deserves some sympathy. After all, someone died. I'm not saying they're above the bulls by anymeans, but no one deserves to die. I feel bad for the person, I feel bad for the hundreds of bulls. The person certainly had it coming with that, but still.

okay people people people. yes this is bad. and it sucks and yes im a vegatarian and in no way do i support running with the bulls/bull fighting. but for those saying that he deserved to die.....think PETA is about animals rights, yes? and you can care about amimals and the bulls.....but to show no compassion for the human who is an ANIMAL as we all are... really? isnt a saying EVERYONE has rights and feelings animals and humans? yet you have no compassion for this human.... and bull fighting is wrong

I think this so called sport is disgusting and barbaric and i have no sympathy for anyone who gets hurt or killed while taking part, they get exactly what they deserve and i think common sense is definetly needed in cases like this.Scared bull, small stupid human its a no brainer.

It get`s me so angry to know that there are such inhumine cruel people living.Quite frankly i`m fine with someone dying .Hurting any animal is an act of monstrosity and these``activities`` need to stop.

One word: KARMA!
If you want to watch this cruel event you deserve to be killed those bulls.

i think they should stop being cruel to these animals and let them free and they probably do this cuz they just like killing for fun and they dont know the importance of this and they should do a law to stop hunting wild harmless animals and let them live!

so one human dies and its all over the news, hundreds of bulls die.... no one seems to care.

bull fighting is a cruel sport and sometimes animals show more compassion than most human beings .....
