Dissection frogs Connecticut dissection choice
Every year, 10 million animals are killed and have their bodies mangled and dissected in schools across the U.S. Right now, a bill is being considered in your state that would give you the legal right to refuse to dissect!
Because of your hard work, this bill has made it through the House, and we're closer than ever to getting a dissection-choice policy in Connecticut—but animals still need your voice!
So what can you do to help? That's the easy part!
Step 1: Click here and type in your address to find your local senator.
Step 2: Click on the Web icon (it's a little yellow circle) for your Connecticut state senator (not your U.S. Senator!).
Step 3: Call your district office using that contact information!
Here's an example of what to say:
"I'm calling to ask you to vote in favor of HB6565. This bill would give Connecticut students an option for humane alternatives when there is an objection to harming animals for dissection. HB6565 would place Connecticut in line with 15 other states, including New York and New Jersey, that have passed similar laws and resolutions to respect students' moral and religious objections to harming animals in the classroom. With so many alternatives out there, there is no need to force students to participate in dissection. I hope that you will vote for a simple choice for all students."
Step 4: E-mail StreetTeam@peta2.com and tell us how your call went, and we'll give you 1,000 Street Team points!
Step 5: Make sure that you've sent an e-mail to your senator here.
Frogs, pigs, cats, and other animals commonly used in schools like yours for biology and other courses often come from breeding firms like the one in this undercover investigation, in which animals were pumped full of chemicals while they were still conscious. Animals are also taken from the wild or are purchased from animal shelters or breeders to end up being killed for science classes, despite the humane and effective options that are readily available.
This bill could be voted on any day now, so please act fast! Animals are counting on you!

Can you do this even if you're not a Connecticut resident?

Let's pull all 50 states out of the Dark Ages and make virtual dissection mandatory...it is so unnecessary.

Posted by: peter ellis at May 7, 2009 3:47 AMI live in Colorado and was required to dissect a Cat in my anatomy class...It was horrible. There was a cat for every 2 students and more in case someone messed up on it or it grew mold. I fought it with the school and was told that I didn't have to take the class only to find out that I needed the class to graduate. I refused to dissect the cat and failed the class for most of the semester, until I finally gave it and worked on the cat, then I passed with an A. It was sick that there was no choice in the matter. No one should have to do this horrible act to pass a class.
