Victory: Bolivia Ends All Military Combat Exercises on Animals! April 1, 2009
Posted by Rachel-O | Permalink | Comments ( 90 ) | TrackBackAfter seeing a video of Bolivian soldiers violently stabbing and torturing live dogs for trauma training last month—and hearing that it was supposedly what the U.S Army taught them to do—most of us were left with two things: an upset stomach, and the question of why this ever has to happen to any animal in the name of war.
Thousands of you wrote to Bolivia and asked them to immediately end all use of animals in military combat exercises. And because of you, dogs and other animals in this country—for the very first time—are protected under a brand new regulation that puts to an end the torture and killing of animals in military exercises!
On Monday, the Minister of Defense in Bolivia, Walker San Miguel, issued a resolution to prohibit the abuse and killing of animals in military exercises. San Miguel declared that "we are issuing a Resolution 217, by which we prohibit all acts of violence, exploitation, mistreatment that provokes the death of animals".
There's no excuse for any country to torture and kill animals—and we want the Department of Defense in the U.S to hear this message loud and clear. Tell the United States to follow Bolivia's lead and stop burning, shooting, poisoning and stabbing live animals in medical-training exercises now.
On behalf of animals everywhere—thank you!

Posted by: Holly at April 1, 2009 11:05 PMAll I have to say is "FUCK YES!!!!!!!!" That made me sick for days. I don't eat any form of meat what-so-ever. I am strict vegetarian because the death of ANY animal is so repulsive to me it literally makes me sick, so why would I ever consume one? I don't know how we can do it but we have to make the world see that hurting animals is wrong and should never be done just so you can have a nice steak for dinner.
Posted by: at April 1, 2009 11:13 PMWoW thats great The dogs are free
Posted by: Joshua at April 1, 2009 11:26 PMWoot! Its funny how the U.S.A. thinks they are so great. Yes, I live in this country but its really horrible that other countries can open their eyes to these issues yet the U.S., the country that thinks they are better than everyone else, the country thats supposed to stand for freedom, still stands blind. Wake up America. =/

I sent a letter the second I watched that video, I showed my mom and she was so disgusted. I was on the phone with my dad while I was watching it, and I just kept yelling "Oh my GOD!"
I'm really glad that this regulation's been passed, and I sent a letter to the U.S. asking them to do the same. Let's hope they respond as speedily!

Posted by: Moe at April 28, 2009 2:13 PMYes!! Feels so good to make a difference for such a wonderful cause!!
Posted by: Gustavo at April 28, 2009 2:44 PMThe only thing everyone, is that we have to be diligent because what is to say that they are not doing it behind closed doors? Believe me, it is not over. These government officials just want to get PETA off of their back and they say and do anything to do so. It is like the fur industry, one designer says, "No I am not using real fur in my designs any longer!" Then we hear at a later date that they have been caught again using real fur! We must be diligent and never think that things are as they seem.
Realistic and Concerned Anita
Posted by: Anita Pratt at April 28, 2009 3:03 PMThis is awesome!
But as Anita Pratt said, WE CAN'T stop now. We have to remind them of cruelty, they could be lying.
But it's still great to hear!
Posted by: Ashley P at April 28, 2009 8:55 PMThank God! I thought it was absolutely disgusting. I salute Bolivia - Thank you so much

Posted by: Emily at May 3, 2009 8:37 PMI am so happy about that its a very big relief.I was born in Bolivia and there is so much to do over there for animals. I hope they respect the new resolution over there.
:)
"(...) by which we prohibit all acts of violence, exploitation, mistreatment that provokes the death of animals"
That provokes the death of animals... Oh boy... I sure hope that's not the official phrasing in their new law. I want to be optimistic and believe that the Bolivian government isn't corrupt enough to continue the torture and state that, because of the phrasing, they can torture as much as they want as long as they don't lead the dogs to their death. But living in another South American country, and knowing how "not" corrupt the governments are, this is a bit unsettling for me... I hope I'm wrong...
