Gallows: "We Would Never Harm An Animal" April 28, 2009

Today's blog features guest blogger, peta2 UK's Violet.

In recent days there has been much controversy surrounding the breaking news of Gallows allegedly recording a pig's dying moments before he was killed in a slaughterhouse. In reaction to the story, peta2 UK issued a statement to press condemning the band's actions, but reporting a massive influx of orders for free vegetarian starter kits from shocked fans.

Today however, NME.com (who broke the original story) has released a follow up article which issues the following statement from Gallows:

"We would never harm an animal for the sake of our music," the statement read. "The sample is taken from the internet and we even traced it to come from Spain where they still use inhumane forms of slaughter*. We do not want to upset our fans who we consider intelligent enough to realise we didn't kill a pig or any other kind of animal to achieve the sounds on 'Grey Britain.'"

We're delighted to hear that contrary to reports, no animals were harmed in the making of Gallows new album. At slaughterhouses, pigs scream when they are beaten, dragged and slammed onto concrete floors. They cry out in terror and gasp as their throats are cut. If anything, this controversy has turned many people off meat for good, having now made the connection between the suffering that pigs endure and the fleeting taste of a chop or a ham sandwich.

*It's worth noting here that the Spanish are by no means the only nation who use inhumane housing and slaughter methods.

@Karen
Stranger things probably have been thrown up on stage at a concert. Might as well anyway. :)

Definitely relieved. I've been looking forward to the album for awhile and was dissapointed by the previous blog.

Glad everything is cleared up.
