The Great British Circus' Big Disgrace March 5, 2009

Sarah from peta2 UK has a guest blog asking you to take action against the Great British Circus. Make your voice heard! Take action now to stand up for Delhi, Vana Mana, Sonja and all other animals exploited in the circus.
-Rachel

The Great British Circus will be touring the UK in 2009 for up to 8 months using elephants—the first to appear in a circus in more than ten years. Three elephants, two from India name Delhi and Vana Mana, and one from Africa called Sonja, will be performing up to twice a day for the tour.

Animals used in circuses have usually been taken from the wild, where they once roamed free, or they were bred in captivity so that they could live a life of isolation and punishment.

When we go to the circus we expect a fun packed night of talent and exciting stunts—not to watch animals who are forced to perform humiliating tricks.

Make sure to get your friends, family and relatives to boycott The Great British Circus too.

I just can't believe elephants are being used in British circuses again, animal rights are going backwards!!

This Circus is a disgrace, not only are those poor animals kept in appalling conditions, dragged around the country and forced to perform ugly and humiliating tricks, the owners don't care about their visitors. Health and safety is a joke - which of course it would be on private land! the toilets are disgusting, the big top has seen better days and the owner is a foul mouthed old bloke who looks like a vagrant...I'd really like him taking care of my kids!!!! NOT.
Put an end to it now!

The circus has come to my neighbourhood (BUSHEY, HERTS) and I am so angry they are using these huge animals. In fact I felt sick as I passed the field and saw camels wandering about! London Boroughs have long banned the use of animlas for our entertainment. Having read the Defra report, it appears the animals are well treated, however nothing justfies keeping these wonderful creatures as travelling entertainers. I will be outside this shameful event on Thursday at 3.00pm to protest if anyone would like to join me.
