Who Wants Two Free Propagandhi Songs? February 9, 2009
Posted by Shannon Phillips | Permalink | Comments ( 2 ) | TrackBackThere aren't many things that I love more than Propagandhi. Less Talk, More Rock is always on regular rotation on my playlist, and after talking recently with vocalist Chris Hannah, I couldn't be more excited about their new album (out on March 10th!), Supporting Caste.
For their latest release, Propagandhi is giving fans two free songs for download with a donation to an organization that they feel really deserves it. Within these organizations are the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, Partners in Health, and you guessed it... peta2!
Starting today, you can visit http://propagandhi.com/supporting-caste/download.php, enter an amount you wish to donate, pick an organization for your donation, and you will receive two new songs from Supporting Caste in exchange—"Supporting Caste" and "Human(e) Meat."
All of the organizations involved are fantastic, and we at peta2 are so happy to be a part of this!

If that wasn't awesome enough, check out what vocalist Chris Hannah had to say about Animal Rights when I spoke with him recently on the phone...
peta2: I have heard some rumors that there are some animal rights themed songs on the album [Supporting Caste], can you confirm or deny this rumor?
Chris: There are, yep, absolutely! One song is a response to the "happy meat" movement, where people somehow believe that there is a quote unquote "humane" way of acquiring the flesh or skin or secretions of another living creature. And I guess the premise of the song is—this may not sound gentle—but this is me killing and eating another person, but doing it "humanely" and honoring their strength and speed and such other nonsense, so the purpose of it is to point out how absurd it is to claim that you can humanely kill and eat another living creature, who has common interests and needs.
peta2: Speaking of animal rights songs, your song, "Apparently I'm a PC Fascist (Because I Care About Both Human and Non-Human Animals)" has been referred to as the peta2 office anthem—and I am not kidding when I say that—have you heard any stories of any fans maybe going vegetarian after hearing one of your songs?
Chris: Well, from traveling the little bit that we do or from the email or mail correspondence that we do, of course there's anecdotal stories of people turning vegetarian, but a lot of them seem to be more related to the intro to a song called "Purina Hall of Fame" which used actually something from one of the PETA sites which was the investigation into a hog farm, and it was audio from the video of that and I think the people that had written in—they had never heard of anything like that before, and it changed everything.
peta2: If a fan came to you and told you that they wanted to get involved in animal rights in general, but didn't know where to start, what would your response be?
Chris: I would refer them to a few websites, probably including one of the PETA sites. There's also a podcast that I really like called "Vegetarian Food For Thought" it's on the Compassionate Cooks website—Colleen Patrick-Goudreau is her name, and she does a really good podcast that deals with typical questions or typical arguments against vegetarianism, and she deals with them in a reasonable, empathetic, but no-nonsense sort of way, and a few people who I've recommended it to already have found it helpful.
Like what you've heard so far? Make sure you check out the donation site, make a donation, and get two new Propagandhi songs! While you're at it, you can pre-order their new album, Supporting Caste by clicking on the banner below!
