Yes! The final 4 episodes of the greatest show in the history of the universe, Battlestar Galactica, are finally underway and I am so beyond excited. Anyone who knows me is well aware that if they call me during the show, I won't answer—I'm that addicted.
Needless to say words can't express how thrilled I was when the beautiful and amazing Jamie Bamber (a.k.a. Lee "Apollo" Adama) agreed to speak up for Canadian black bears by posing au naturel for peta2's first "Bare Skin, Not Bear Skin" ad. Oh, Jamie. Just look at that gorgeous ad!

I know, I know, he's beyond perfect, especially since he's using his celebrity to help animals. When Jamie learned that the Queen of England's Guard's caps are made from black bears who are shot and killed using a cruel practice called "bear baiting," he jumped at the chance to spread the word.
"Animals just represent a very easy target, I think. I think we've abused them for far too long, and we should just be responsible in terms of the way we cohabit. I just don't understand how, as humans, we haven't quite bridged that understanding. How we've got this inflated idea of our own superiority."
Hunters leave food at "bait spots" to attract hungry bears, who are then shot, often in front of their cubs, when they come to eat. The bears are sometimes shot several times, and many escape wounded only to die later from blood loss, infection, or starvation. Since the cubs are dependent on their mothers for food whole families are often wiped out.
It can take an entire bear's hide to make just one cap, and Jamie agrees with peta2 and compassionate people worldwide that fake fur is the way to go and that bear-baiting should be stopped. "The obvious alternative is to make caps out of faux fur. You know, use synthetic materials to avoid killing a beautiful animal. They're not to keep warm. It's not particularly freezing outside Buckingham Palace. You could wear something else. And you could certainly wear faux fur."
Check out what else Jamie had to say about the way animals should be treated and enter to win a season of Battlestar Galactica on DVD by commenting below about what you think of fur.

good contest
Fur belongs on the animal it was born on.
Animal furs were necessary for cave dwellers, but nowadays, we have heated homes/cars/buildings, as well as coats made of synthetic materials. Skinning an animal of its fur is cruel and wasteful- since only the fur is used and not the entire animal, not to mention the methods of killing the animal to which the fur belongs. People extavagant enough to wear furs shouldn't be crucified, but they need information about the way their furs were produced.
I think fur on an animal should be treated like human hair. I mean, do you see animals killing humans and stealing their "fur"!?
There is no need to wear fur in a society where other materials for clothing are completely accessible.
I don't wear fur Never Have and Never Will
Fur is only beautiful on live animals!

Fur is great- on the animals.
Fur sucks…unless it's on a live animal, of course.
Nice prize, please enter me.
Fur should stay on animals. Imitation is ok
54 years young , and like to get prizzies
Fur was made for animals, not people!
I think that animals should not be killed specifically for their skin (except for natives that basically have no choice – inuit, aboriginie, etc.) But, I think that if an animal is bred to be food, then there is nothing wrong with not wasting the 'non-edible' parts and making shoes, belts, coats, etc. My opinion.
I'd love to win and fur was meant for the animals that were born with it.
Fur is mot for me. It looks better on animals. If the man or woman wanted us to wear fur he would have given it to us.
I Love Battelstar Galactica.
a fur coat looks better on a rabbit then on a hat!
Why would anyone want to hurt an animal? Lets protect them and their coats!
I only love the fur on Alec Baldwin!
I hate it and of course would never wear it
Please enter me into the contest.
They don't wear fur on Battlestar Galactica!
I LOVE BSG!!!
And I think that fur should never be worn, except for by the animal it belongs to.
Go jamie!
The road kill look is not flattering.
BSG is by far the greatest television series to be produced in my short lifetime. Also, yay animals.
I admire the fur on animals; it's beautiful and very esthetically pleasing. Thanks, Peta, for the inFURmation. [groan]
I would never wear anything that is fur in my life. I think it is wrong to wear something that was made due to an innocent animal being killed. This is a great giveaway and I really hope I win as I love Battlestar Galactica. Thanks.
I like fur on animals much better than people!
I am against people wearing fur. Absolutely.
