Vegan Vampires? January 8, 2009

Posted by Ashleigh | Permalink | Comments ( 30 ) | TrackBack

veganvampire.jpgThe Livingstones are reformed vampires who traded in immortality and blood-sucking for a vegan life in New York City. The Knaveheart's Curse (sequel to Vampire Island) chronicles 7th grader Maddy Livingstone trying to save her older sister (and the entire New World) from a scary Old World vampire.

As if that's not crazy enough, Maddy still harbors some old vampiric feelings, and drinks hot pomegranate juice every morning and pretends it's blood (The Cullens should take a page from her book). She's also taken to eating mosquitos and ticks to get the blood they have taken from others. No vegan I know would do this, but I'm cutting Maddy some slack; she's new to the whole "human" thing.

Has anyone read any of these books yet? (Technically they're for a younger audience, but I still want to sink my teeth into them. Ha!)

@mel

Do you have any proof to back up your claim that Twilight is the best thing written besides your personal oppinion?

I'm going to read this. :)
Twilight was good; but I won't see the movie. I heard that Robert was horrible and it was bad special effects.

OMG! I absolutely love Twilight. It is the BEST thing ever written.

Twilight is good, but the fact that they call themselves vegetarians sort of pisses me off.

I've not read this book (or Twilight) but it does sound interesting (& I love reading any books, even 'childrens'!)

twilling is a shit on the face of litterature. they are not even real vampires. i also love how you guys turned this towards twilligt.
i think the book has a cute concept, trading in being a vampire to be a vegan. what about the author, is he a vegan?

I can't get into Twilight. Maybe if I was a lot younger since I'm in my twenties.

That looks so cute! And a lot better then the "Twilight" books, they really were not that great.

@Jaimie Kishkorn

Same question. How is it the best book ever written?

"Do you have any proof to back up your claim that Twilight is the best thing written besides your personal oppinion?"
That can't be proved, because it IS a personal opinion. Besides, what makes you feel so compelled to be a jerk to people in the comments section? I would rather bathe in corrosive acid than read Twilight, but you don't see me walking around challenging people simply because they enjoy a novel.

To each their own. Sheesh.

That's good that the books promote veganism, but it's not something I would read. I don't like vampire books and I ESPECIALLY hate Twilight.

I think I'll read it, it looks cool..
[that's if my parente ever buy a book for me]
But I have to say I've read Twilight and I love it.
[But that doesn't means other vamp books are crap]

Any Twilight-lover should read some Anne Rice.

YAY VEGAN VAMPIRE! That's actually really cute... Hmm, maybe I'll get it for my younger cousin?

This is probably the dumbest thing I've ever read on PETA.

Twilight are not the best thing ever written! God I am so tired of hearing about those unrealistic childish books! Okay yeah I read them, but only because I'm a vampire freak, I'll read anything about vampires. But the way that Stephenie Meyer did the Twilight sage annoys me to no end. What the hell is up with the hole 'vegetarian' thing, That was stupid. Oh! and lets not forget about the hole sparkle in the sunlight thing, That was ever worse than the 'vegetarian' thing!

Have more but I have better things to do.

i wont read them and i wont see the movie is just all so stupid like matt said its not the first vampire love story thats come out and i love how these books have been out for years and are just now this big amazing thing its a load of crap

people are acting like its the only good book on the planet want a good vampire series read cirque du freak by darren shan cause darren writes amazing books and there even making the series in to a movie as well

I read the Twilight saga and I personally loved them. They were cute and romantic. I tihnk that this book sounds cute too. I may read it.

To sophia(e),

I'm pretty sure Stephanie Meyer meant vegetarian as in as vegetarian that a vampire could get.

Just my opinion. =]

This sounds like a cool book, but I don't get why people are bashing Twilight and saying they aren't vegetarians.

I agree with Maddie.
It's not in the literal sense of the word, it's supposed to be their own inside joke.

I love twilight. I've seen the movie and I fell in love with Robert Pattinson....but I think the books are better because they're more desriptive....

I personally can't stand Twilight, it turns off everything I like about books and Vampires, infact, I don't even bring up about how I used to be facinated with them, purely because people expect me to be obsessed with the book. I especially hate the obsession people have with it, and the main characters.

I think the idea of a vegan vampire is a lot more interesting, and makes me want to read it.

Vampires drink blood, or in this case, kindly give it up - they don't sparkle love.

I agree, twilight was a ridiculous series of books. It was basically an excuse to churn out several long and mediocre romance novels.

In my opinion, nobody has elevated the craft of telling vampire stories like Anne Rice herself. I would even put her above Bram Stoker, although she may not have ever started vampire writing if it wasn't for the formers work.

Nah, "The Vampire Chronicles" are the best vampire series ever written...not Twilight.
