Who Loves Bunnies? December 16, 2008

Posted by Marta | Permalink | Comments ( 45 ) | TrackBack

Update 12/22/2008: Donna Karan has announced that her fall 2009 lines will be fur-free and that she has "no plans" to use fur in the future! Read more.

I love bunnies. I had two bunnies growing up, Alexander and Agatha, and I have several friends who share their homes with bunnies. Check out my friends' bunnies, Moses and Peanut. They're BFF.

It's definitely upsetting to think that some heartless people still use fur in their clothing lines—fur from bunnies and other animals. If we could understand animals, I'm sure they'd tell us they want to keep their fur—just as I'm sure all of you reading this want to keep your skin.

Clothing companies and designers are going fur-free like mad these days, but there are some people who are keeping things in the stone age and still using fur. Donna Karan, the designer behind the DKNY line, is one of those people. Animals on fur farms are killed using the cheapest methods available, including neck-breaking, suffocation, poisoning, and anal or vaginal electrocution. Donna Karan knows about the suffering that goes into every fur-trimmed coat, hat, and bag. She previously promised to stop using fur in her designs, but guess what? You'll find the skins of dead rabbits in the Donna Karan line.

Because of this, we just launched a brand-new parody site, DonnaKaranBunnyButcher.com. Check out the site for yourself and be sure to pass it on to all of your friends.

Can you believe that animals are still killed for their fur in 2008?

Remember, please never buy or wear real fur. Do it for animals everywhere!

Marta

I really can't understand what's stylish about wearing an animals fur. I mean if u like that look what's wrong with faux fur?? It looks exactly the same and doesn't cost an animal its life.

I have had two bunnies!! These bunnies are freakin adorable!! I don't understand how people can put looking good before saving these little fellas. There's a bunch of sick people out there. I'm glad when I come here though, theres plenty of other people who feel as I do. It's hard living in the south where everyone's normal meals and clothing are cow. Well I'm gonna make a movement around here!!

I hate how people think somehow animals are lower in importance than humans! THATS BULL! I'd prefer to hang out with a group of bunnies than a group of people anyday!

I can understand why bunnies should NEVER be used as fur (I work at a bunny shelter, and your bunnies are SOO CUTE), but what about minks IF they are treated and killed humanely? I mean, I'm against all fur, but the fur farms here are actually pretty decent to their animals. I'm against it, but they give them large pens and a friend to bond with and euthanize them.

Why can't we just petition for a law saying that bunnies are domesticated pets and cannot be used for fur?

Dear Peta, It is almost surreal to thank you for these videos, one day I hope they will never be needed. As for Donna Karan You should watch these videos while you are getting ready for work and before you lay your head down at night.
I love my little James who has enriched my life every day, Thank you James, Freckles and Sweetie, for teaching me the language and love of bunnies.
They have let me know their love, intellect and nature.

I would NEVER EVER wear fur. In social studies we recetly did a brochure on the modern fur trade. I think we all know what I wrote :)

Hello! Dear Peta,
Humans' responsibility should be to love all kinds of animals in this world. Nonhuman action is abuse, violence and inhuman technique to kill animals. Peta could take actions and on behalf of word for unlucky animals. Humans can stop to purchase all kinds of animals skin produce, other fabrics for their fashion is smart choice, we can do.

This totally disgusts me. So yes, we should boycott Donna Karan, but we should stop buying from all manufacturers that use raw materials which are 'farmed' in such a way. So many UK high street shops use cheap Chinese leather to make fashion shoes, bags and purses, belts gloves and other items. If we didn't want to buy awful, cheap, nasty items in the first place there would be no market for Chinese leather or for the fur. I have 17 rescued rabbits, so I am feeling sick to the pit of my stomach about the videos, especially the castor rexes hanging up by their legs and still alive. I also can't believe that they would not slaughter dogs or cats before skinning. I can't get that image of the dog still alive but without any skin out of my head. It haunts me and has provoked me into action.

WHATS WRONG WITH PEOPLE

Posted by: ANNE at December 20, 2008 12:06 PM

I've watched many of these videos and it all boils down to greed. Donna doesn't care about cats or dogs or raccoons, no. Only money. If killing animals isn't bad enough, she pays minimum wage to all slaughterers so they can't put them down humanely. Donna, if you're reading this, please STOP. Use faux-fur, pleather and FAKE animal products. Please, please stop buying fur and supporting the fur trade.

I'm not quite the 'stereotypical' animal rights person, being a Midwesterner. On one hand I'm "Sierra Club" mainstream; Preserve nature to hunt and fish in it, reduce animal cruelty by enforced and reasonable labeling so we eat healthy animals. Yes, I eat meat.

However, I know too well the often pointless and evil suffering caused on animals. It's one thing to kill an animal for its meat, another for a decoration. Modern technology makes it so that a much warmer, more cleanable and efficient piece of clothing can be made for much less cost. It's what, 1/15th the cost/energy by your figures? Therefore, adding real fur to trim of coats and handbags is a pointless waste of life, compounded by cruelty to animals.

I propose a compromise; Fur should only be legal if one hunts/raises the fur themselves. And they either make it themselves, or they sell it one-to-one and it's made in the same state it is sold. Keep the big corporations out of it, most fur will be fake -but- this compromise will allow the pressure valve used to keep it legal to blow. In tough economic times, there are still leather workers by trade who make boots, saddles, belts, etc. These people will see their jobs go from "Last of a dying/dead industry" to a "Tradesman" again. A lot of smaller towns in the mid west have people who can make excellent things with fur who will NOT be cruel to the animals, they'll kill them very quick and clean. Then these towns will get a lot of extra business from people from coastal cities who still want fur, but at least they'll be buying "One bad day" animals, not industrialized human and animal cruelty that takes from everything and gives to an elite at the top.

Ok, so if I have been one of these bad people or own something fur, what is the right thing to do with it? Bury it? Throw it in the trash? Give it to good will so someone else will wear it? Please help me, Klara

There was this Dutch artist-person who killed her cat because it was "depressed" and then made a BAG of its skin! And she also killed her guinea pig to stuff it and make a RADIOCONTROLLED GUINEA PIG ON WHEELS out of it!

Luckily she got sued, but I seriously think it's crazy that shit like this actually happens!!!
