Student Undercover Investigator Documents Gruesome Horse Slaughter December 23, 2008

We all know the horrific treatment of animals killed for meat intended for human consumption, but what about animals killed for dog and cat food? What happens behind the scenes of this shady industry? One University of Florida student went to find out...

After a little investigative research, the student tracked down the Moses Dog Food company, based in Ocala, Florida. He managed to arrange a tour of the facility, which is located directly next to a local high school, in the self-proclaimed "Horse Capital of the World".

What he discovered is disturbing to say the least, so be warned!

You can find the rest of the investigator's photos, as well as contact information to voice your concerns with the company, on his website, titled "The Meat They Eat".

The fact of the matter is that abuse is standard in this industry (as with any industry that uses animals). The majority of animals killed for dog and cat food come from factory farms, and are often categorized by the four D's — dead, dying, diseased, or disabled. Their bodies are then ground up, and fed to the animals that share our homes.

Thankfully, there are plenty of humane, non-animal alternatives available, such as the legendary V-Dog vegan dog food available on our website.

Leave your kudos for the student investigator below, since he has clearly been through hell and back to bring you this information!

Definitely much kudos to the student, if I was there I would've completely freaked out by those gruesome sights.

People like him are heroes, showing the world the undercover footage that NEEDS to be seen.

That is absolutely disgusting, and I'm sorry he had to see that personally. I would've run out crying during the first 5 minutes. Seeing this has made me definitely want to give my dogs or other animals all vegan food when I have a place of my own.
P.S. I'm from Jacksonville Florida and it makes me really proud to see a UF student doing this and making a difference. GO GATORS!!!
Maybe we should try to get Tim Tebow to go veg =]

Wow....That is disturbing.
I never thought it was that horrible to make cat food! At least this is out in the open now, so more people can learn what happens in this hideous industry! Thanks to the investigator, now maybe people will think twice next time they buy food for their pets at home, and buy humane products!

Reminds me of a documentary I watched recently called "Last of the Spanish Mustangs" It is a lot like this. A man and his wife who traveled to horse slaughterhouses and auctions and took pictures and video (or tried, some of the owners got extremely nasty.) They also got video of mustangs on the range and talked to and interviewed people who were involved with varying places. Very sad the way our society treats horses and animals in general.

Well this is rather sick, but how is their a humane way of doing this? wont the chemicals or the medicine in euthanasia spread through out the animal, and then be dangerous for the dogs or animals that eat the food get poisoned? A bullet to the head? Yuck! their is no good way of killing animals, and if their was, then why don't people take action! At least these horses were already put down or killed, and at least they didn't kill them right on the spot. But it is rather disturbing that their is a SCHOOL next to it! the poor children next to the building must smell that blood and raw meat! oh my god, this sick and disturbing. the bottom line is.... MEAT IS MURDER! and for the dude who made this video, thank you. i learned a lot.

Im Impressed with the courage this student had to go onto a residents property and film this info and then to put on UTUBE. But there are these kind of facilities here and there. Sadly we are still fighting a bill in congress to hault the export of American Horses going to slaughter in Mexico and Canada. Though the US plants are finally close now we must stop the exports. This will NOT increase unwanted horses it will only expose irresponsible backyard breeders that should not even own a horse less breed them for profits. Most of your Pro slaughter People are profiting off the horses flesh. Auctioneers cant sell to killers so they cry and lie. The Killers cry about the long hauls yet its inhumane and they dont care its the money they want. Then its your over breeder that if he or she cant sell at there high prices then they sell to slaughter to not lose on profits. for more info visit www.SaveDaHorses.org
