UK Christmas reindeer reindeet meat
Here's a special guest blog from Sarah over at peta2 UK. Sar—when will you be shipping me one of your homemade mince pies?
-Marta
Compared to Marta you'd think that I don't really like Christmas. I only started watching Christmas movies in November and I just made my first batch of mince pies last week when I put up my Christmas tree.
When I think of Christmas, I think of Christmas trees, mince pies, Father Christmas, elves and reindeers! So I'm a little grossed out by the fact that some places in the UK are serving our four legged friends, Rudolph, Prancer, Dasher, Vixen... Reindeer if you didn't already get it.
I'm confused by the fact that some people would even want to, let alone actually eat reindeer, since they are such a symbol for Christmas—just like the turkey is for Thanksgiving.
I'm not too concerned that Father Christmas may not be able to make it (how can he get here without his reindeer?), but more concerned about the fact that thousands of turkeys, pigs and other animals are also going to be killed throughout the world at Christmas—and every other time of year too. These animals face a short miserable life in dirty warehouses, suffering from broken bones and painful diseases, only to end up next to the Brussels sprouts on Nan's dinner-plate.
The only thing that will be next to my Brussels sprouts will be my Redwoods Cheatin' Roast—yum yum!
What will be next to your Brussels sprouts (or mashed potatoes, carrots, etc.)?

Posted by: Kirsten at December 16, 2008 2:32 PMI'm going to be having a vegan BBQ and a vegan meringue and white chocolate stack.
Posted by: Sam at December 16, 2008 6:19 PMLittle Lotte - the Cheatin' Roast is yummier than the Quorn one!! You can order it off the Redwoods food website or try some where like Holland & Barratt - they can sometimes order them in for you :)
Posted by: Sarah at December 17, 2008 3:27 AMThanks Sarah! Next time I'm in Holland & Barrett I'll ask.
Plus the Redwoods one is vegan but the Quorn isn't so I definately will be switching anyway.
all i know is that i will NOT be having a dead animal on Christmas. i'll find something else to eat. like a chikn patty.
Posted by: erika at December 17, 2008 1:15 PMI have no idea what I'm going to eat this Christmas, considering it's my first as a vegetarian. My mom is making ham; of course I'm not eating that. I'll most likely be having either tofurkey or another veggie burger :)
Posted by: chelsea at December 18, 2008 8:03 AMMy Vavi always makes sure to make me a special vegetarian stuffing, along with mashed potatoes, eight million vegetables and dinner rolls. Mmm ^_^

I think I might have an unconventional Christmas this year and have a veggie curry!
Although I'm going to try and find that Redwoods Cheatin' Roast to see if it tastes better than the Quorn Roast.
