Britney, Britney, Britney. Sigh. I know I've had some not so nice things to say about her in the past, but deep down I really did hope she'd come around. I thought maybe the new and improved Britney Spears would have left all of her nasty habits behind...wrong again. I'll never learn.
And apparently, neither will Britney, only this time she's resorted to exploiting captive animals instead of wearing the fur of tortured ones. The video for her new song "Circus" was just released and features, yep, you guessed it, lions and elephants.
Um, wasn't she just crying on TV because she hates that she's kept pent up in her house hiding from the paparazzi hell that is her daily life?! That was her, no? How is she not making the connection between herself and the lions, elephants, and other animals who are denied their freedom by being kept in chains and cages, and dragged around the country being forced to perform stupid tricks for clueless people? If anyone should be able to relate to animals exploited by the entertainment industry it should be Britney Spears.
Granted she is a willing performer who signed up for this when she decided to become a celebrity, that's where she and the animals differ. They don't want to be on stage for all the world to see, if they did I'm pretty sure they wouldn't need to be beaten with bullhooks, whipped, or gouged with electric prods.
Animals, like children, are not props or toys to use whenever you feel like it and I think it's about time Britney realized that. If you agree, click here and let Britney know what you think.

oh my...you WOULD think that she would think "well since i think that my life is hell then the animals for circuses must have a life pretty similar to mine. but they can't do anything to change it."
Posted by: erika at December 8, 2008 1:23 PMWell it actuallyisn't allon Britney. The director directs the video, who is in it, and what's in it. So you can pin itallon Britney. She's trying to get her life, please let her do it without do it without somuch criticism.
Posted by: Symone at December 8, 2008 2:00 PMit is RIDICULOUS that anybody thinks that they can go around treating any other lviing thing like this. we share the earth, so cant we do it in peace?
Posted by: bri at December 8, 2008 4:59 PMi was checking out the comments on youtube for britney spears music vid "circus" one person had said
"Honestly did those animals need to be used? It would have been a pretty decent video with out those few clips. Brit, You don't need to harm animals to make a good video."
another (obviously really stupid) had replied with "Omg shut up.Does it look like the animals were harmed you idiot?" at teh time, i was very pissed off, so i replied to her....
"ok since apparently your a freakin stupid i'll explain this simply to you....
elephants and lions who perform cruel and confusing tricks. Trainers beat animals used in circuses with bullhooks, whips, and electric prods.
Animals used in entertainment spend most of their lives in chains, and they are beaten and abused. Dragged to show after show, they spend their entire lives in the spotlight. They are treated like mere objects, denied access to their families and everything that is natural and important to them.
now who's the idiot you stupid whore"
im not sure if that was going to far but i was so mad at the time... what do you think?
Posted by: Teal at December 8, 2008 5:08 PMBritney doesn't control what is in the videos, it is the director of the video.
wow, this is so pointless.
I think who ever wrote this is just trying to get peta more famous by pointing the finger at Britney. Just because shes coming back and shes having a good month doesn't mean you have to try to steal some of her fame.
This is a total fail post. & it makes me have no respect for he Peta foundation.
Posted by: at December 8, 2008 6:51 PMWhen i watched her video i thought the same thing, that it was sad. But I dont think shes knows, most people dont, i had no idea untill i reasearched it. I think Britney is a great person and if she knew what was going on behind the seens she would have said no to the elephants. I think its our job as PETA 2 members to some how kindly inform her about the way animals are treated. I wish Britney the best of luck, and to keep making great music.
Posted by: Skye at December 8, 2008 7:15 PMbritney isn't the only one in charge of the decisions, but you can't deny she def. has a pretty big influence on what's in her vids.
Posted by: cody at December 8, 2008 7:24 PMThere was a myspace post about this in which people where attacking PETA for calling her out on this, and once again I will re explain why Brittney is being attacked and not others.
Granted the video shooting, the props on tour and so on are done by the director and by managers and so on, she still has full say in the things that happen in her videos and the things around her on stage. Brittney needs to be educated on the things she is supporting so she can put her foot down and tell her manager that she will no longer take part in these things. People mentioned that the circus animals could have been CG/greenscreened in, which I will not deny the possibilities of that happening, but the fact is, is that by doing such, Brittney and the people that work for her/with her are still giving support to places that exploit animals. I know that all of you are aware of the inhumane things that go on at the Circus.
Ok, I think my point has been made.
With love from the underground,

She has always been the same. Doing anything and everything for publicity. She's totally fake and talentless.
Posted by: Kelly at December 9, 2008 7:14 AMI posted a comment on the myspace version of this blog, but it was not approved. Why? Did anyone read it? The comment was from DeaPyre. Perhaps it was too controversial and intelligent to come from a vegetarian who values human life as much as animal life. Perhaps my remarks about a little boy training his pet dog to dance for a treat being no worse than teaching a less domesticated animal to preform tricks and the suggestion that the animal might actually enjoy the lime light was a bit too much. Perhaps it was my statement that spay and neuter programs are taking away just as many animal rights as asking an animal to preform and that I personally wouldn't just want someone to come along and tell me that I am not allowed to have children due to population control. Or perhaps it was my comparison to the fact that freed slaves actually grew to enjoy this country and would not want to go back to Africa once they were treated well and that so long as one, biped or quadruped, is well treated and cared for their just might be no problem with a situation like having lions and elephants preform in a music video.
