Donna Karan Dumps Fur! December 22, 2008

Donna Karan, the target of one of our campaigns, has announced that her fall 2009 lines will be fur-free and that she has "no plans" to use fur in the future!
PETA is now calling on activists and supporters to put the brakes on "Donna Karan: Bunny Butcher" antics, which have included protesting outside her boutiques, crashing her runway show, and exposing her cruel use of fur online. This is a win for the real fashion victims—animals, who are routinely skinned alive for their pelts—and will allow all to focus on Armani and other targets while keeping an eye on Donna Karan's 2010 collection.
Karan's announcement came days after PETA launched its (now offline) DonnaKaranBunnyButcher.com Web site and after mega-fashion guru Tim Gunn sent Karan and designer Giorgio Armani a video that he narrated for PETA showing animals skinned alive for their fur and urged Karan and Armani to open their eyes to the violent and bloody fur industry.
While Donna Karan has followed in the footsteps of top designers—including Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Calvin Klein—Armani still refuses to stop using fur. Armani claims that he "only" uses fur from rabbits who are butchered for meat. We hope that you will take this opportunity to contact Armani to tell him that while the meat of gentle rabbits killed for their fur in China is sold to be eaten, the suffering that they endure is exactly the same. Point out that the cruelty depicted in this video on fur farms in both China and France show animals who are used for both fur and meat.
Thanks to all those who make phone calls, send emails and letters, and anything else you do to help with our campaigns.

Posted by: Cayce at December 22, 2008 2:31 PMYay, success. the more designers stop using fur the more mainstream it will be and hopefully one day it will be the norm in the fashion industry.
never stop speaking up for what is right!
Posted by: Amy at December 22, 2008 2:37 PMI'm so excited. Every time a company takes a step foward, it sets an example for others.

Posted by: Rachel at December 22, 2008 3:25 PMYeah, this is great--IF she keeps her word!
I've sent around alot of internet banners for this, so I'm kind of proud, but what makes us think that she'll heep her word THIS time?
I wouldn't throw out those unused protest fliers yet, PeTA protesters.
Posted by: Willy at December 22, 2008 3:38 PMI am very excited to hear this. It shows that our hard campaigning and work has finally paid off. Thank God for her giving up fur. We have to remember that even at one point she did kill millions of animals, however now it is all over. We need to be kind and respect her, for her decision has changed the lives of millions of animals. Thank goodness for her decision!

This is great! Now I can take those cans of red paint out of my trunk for when I go to Beverly Hills.
I also cancelled my subscription to Lucky Magazine 2 years ago because of their fur ads. Didn't feel very lucky to see those dead animals in their photos.

Posted by: Shradha at December 24, 2008 7:46 AMBravo! One less fur company, less pain for some animals.
Posted by: Tanya Nikoloudi at December 24, 2008 8:31 AMSoon the world will be fur free, and this just goes to show that one day all animals will be liberated. Add this step in the many that we have taken towards their freedom and eventually we will reach the finish line.
We helped close a fur store down in Colorado-as minute as that may be, it as well is one step. Thank you for all that you do for animals!
Posted by: Carrie at December 24, 2008 8:49 AMexcellent! Great job.
Posted by: Mïsha at December 24, 2008 10:01 AMwoww yay :)
my glasses are made by donna karan, so when i saw that i was like, yehh shes so cooll :) bahahaha :P
haww i love peta2 xx
Way to go everyone! It seems that all of the unique hard work ultimately paid off. One extremely important thing we have to remember is that it is not over. We still have other companies using the cruel fun. Sometimes I wonder... isn't killing animals the same as someone murdering someone. Animals have it bad and we will not stop until its over. We PETA members have to continue to protest. Continue to leaflet. Continue to boycott. We will get our way whether they like it or not. Here we come Burberry, get ready to surrender!
Posted by: Joseph Hanner at December 25, 2008 11:56 AMNot 2 b the cynical one or the pessimist...Don't get me wrong; I'm just as happy about this as u all...But who's to say she won't go back on her word AGAIN? She's done it twice b4. Mayb 3rd timz a charm???
Posted by: veggiegrrl69 at December 25, 2008 6:26 PMGood job, these are very good news!
Posted by: Christelle at December 25, 2008 10:49 PMthats bad news,
now we can't wear any nice clothes who can keep us warm,
come on, be honest, when the annimals could do this with us, they would do the same,
and dont you have other things going on in this world than being busy with the designers?
there are wars going on, millions of people are dying and suffering, dont have food for eat or water for drink,
and you guys are busy with this luxury issue?
first stop killing people, than the annimals!
coz otherwise, you dont stop this either!
Damn,
i just saw the video and my thoughts are different now,
its cruel,
they are damn fucking crazy for to it this like,
fuck all the designers who are using fur!
its so insane for to use the fur!
Awesome! Congrats to all of us! Animals smile. We shall enlighten all to leave animals alone!

In response to furlover:
Animals have no choice, no SAY in weather they die or not. People can, usually. They can stop war and suffering themselves, but they still slaughter animals for the sake of looking good. Eguptian cotton can keep you warm, too.
Posted by: Willy at December 28, 2008 6:08 PMRESULT! BOOYA! *happy dance* excellent job guys!
im so glad! i've always been a big fan of her non fur items and style but when i heard that peta was taking action i did not make any purchases! :D

Posted by: nina at January 7, 2009 4:12 PMAs you said in one of your ads, we have faux fur and it is better than killing an innocent animal just to have theirs.
