Vegan vegetarian free Thanksgiving turkeys turkey Tofurky
If you're anything like me, the thought of having a big, dead, stuffed bird as the centerpiece of your Thanksgiving meal is definitely cringe-inducing—and I'm sure the 300 million turkeys raised and killed for their flesh each year in the US aren't thrilled at the thought, either.
Lucky for you, me, and the turkeys, there are lots of alternatives available, including one of my favorites, Tofurky!
Here are my top five reasons you should eat a Tofurky this year:
- No animal was tortured in the making of a Tofurky.
- No one has to stick her/his hand up a turkey's butt. Tofurkys don't have butts.
- Murder should never be cause for celebration.
- Tofurky roasts are available practically everywhere. Seriously, check this out.
- Turkeys will be thankful.

All you gotta do is blog about why you won't be eating turkeys this Thanksgiving (for all of your friends to see!), then leave a link to your blog as a comment below. By commenting with your link, you'll be entered to win one of five Tofurky Roasts with gravy.
The contest ends on November 19 and winners will be selected and notified the same day. Winners will have the choice of free shipping from anywhere in the Continental U.S. or a VIP coupon that will allow them to pick up their prize at a local grocery store.
Just so you know...by commenting here, you're acknowledging that you've read and agreed to our privacy policy.
Also by commenting, you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions.
Mmm! Good luck!

Wow! That looks yummy! I wish it was easier to buy in the UK.
Quorn Roasts are easy to get in the UK but they're not vegan and they don't have stuffing inside :o(

Posted by: Ashleigh Mott at November 3, 2008 1:47 PMI won't be eating turkey this Thanksgiving because not only do I love and respect animals, but two years ago on Thanksgiving, I took the pledge to be vegetarian and haven't eaten meat since. It's by far one of the best things that I've done and I've even converted a few of my friends! I celebrate my vegetarianism each year by being 100% cruelty free.

Posted by: Blaire at November 3, 2008 2:26 PMMy mom told me, "whats the point of you coming home for thanksgiving if you don't eat turkey?" So I told her, "Mom, thanksgiving is about family and being thankful, not about the turkey." So this year, like many other years I am going to eat a vegetarian thanksgiving dinner, no matter where I spend it it will be a good one. But more importantly I am going to be thankful, because that's what this day is really about. It is also important that I like many other vegetarians will be representing the value of our fellow animal friends, by being a positive example to others.

Posted by: Michelle Evans at November 3, 2008 2:55 PMI have never tried Tofurky, but would love to be able to. I don't believe that any animal should have to die to that I may eat, no matter what. Animals all deserve a chance to live free, just as we do.
Posted by: Kristi at November 3, 2008 3:01 PMyummmyyy...
turkey...(fake turkey)...we missed it last year 'cause we didnt hve anything to eat...lol
looks delish if i won this id invite all my vegan veg friends over for thanksgiving!
Posted by: Sarah at November 3, 2008 3:08 PM"This is what I will be eating for Thanksgiving! Don't forget to give thanks to the animals too!"
(My parents are staunch meat eaters, however, I want them to try the Tofurky instead of a Turkey for Thanksgiving).
Here is a discussion that I had with my mother regarding Thanksgiving dinner--
Mom: "Are you going to come to Thanksgiving dinner this year?"
Me: "Yes, but I'm not eating Turkey"
Mom: "Well, if you're not going to eat Turkey--then what other options do you have?"
Me: "Tofurky"
Mom: "Well, if you can get it--then I will serve it instead of Turkey."
So, please Peta2 let me win one of the five Tofurky's, so I can introduce another option--a better option, to my family and friends for Thanksgiving. Thanks! *Hugs* Amanda ;o)
Posted by: Amanda at November 3, 2008 3:30 PMI adopt a turkey (real one) every year.. to save it from being some bowling or new bank account prize.. I never understood that.. I have got away from eating any kind of "traditional" Thanksgiving dinner- I just make what I am hungry for and have a great time watching old movies- I would love however to have a Tofurkey this year- I have had Tofurkey lunch slices for other daily meals- but this year It would be fun to be a bit more traditional during this time of year that is so akin to eating yourself silly.. Please pick me for that free Tofurkey.. My doggies eat meatless as much as they can as well and I know they will love it too.!
Posted by: Lynn Jovick at November 3, 2008 3:39 PMew, birds are disgusting animals when they are all crowded together. im not really into eating feces infested turkey.
Posted by: Kassy at November 3, 2008 3:41 PMstand up for our winged friends! :]
Posted by: hippie sam at November 3, 2008 3:54 PMWhen I was seven, I became a vegetarian on Thanksgiving morning after watching an episode of AGUSA with my father about turkey processing...this is a delicious and sensible alternative!!
Posted by: Catherine KingChuparkoff at November 3, 2008 3:56 PMwow ive always wanted to try this.
there is like nothing i can eat around the holidays because my family all eats meat so ill probably end up eating just noodles or something.
haha
I would love to have a tofurky this thanksgiving b.c it is indeed my sister and I's first thanksgiving as vegan. We are going to cook all vegan dishes to introduce these healthier delicious dishes to our family and friends and I think a tofurky in the center of our dinner table will put the final touch to our vegan thanksgiving!!! : )
Posted by: at November 3, 2008 4:16 PMI signed a petition that stated going vegan for 30 days, witch includes thanksgiving for the first time meatless. And that does look delicious.
Posted by: Chris Greene at November 3, 2008 4:37 PMHello, my name is Amy. I've been trying to make the change to vegetarianism, but it always seems that when I try my parents literally make me eat meat by hiding some meat in a quesidilla or something of the sort. That or they make something really good, like my former favorite dish and I end up eating it even if I don't want to.
Anyway, I'd love to try Tofurky this Thanksgiving. It'd be nice to have something that doesn't kill animals with all the deer hunting going on. >_>
Posted by: Amy Lynn at November 3, 2008 4:44 PMi wont be eating turkey this year because of obvious reasons , the senseless killing of animals . Turkeys did nothing to anyone , even though they are ugly they dont deserve to die. Why cling to old barbaric traditions ?
Posted by: Claudio at November 3, 2008 4:58 PMmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Tofurkey SAVE OUR FRIENDS....MEAT IS MURDER
Posted by: Evelyn Thomas at November 3, 2008 5:11 PMThis is one contest i really want to win, I never win anything from PETA!! I've been a vegan for about two years and i never got the chance to try tofurky.
this year i will not be eating turkey cuz of the horrible reason of how they kill a turkey for some celebration..y couldnt they pick some other food to celebrate with..but i would luv to win this tofurky so i can share it with my family members cuz they dont rly think tofu is good..so then they can give it a try and like it =]
Posted by: maria at November 3, 2008 5:39 PMThis is totally amazing. You have like no Idea. I have been a vegan for almost half a year now. And a vegetarian for over a year, and it was on off even before when I was a young ten year old..... So this is great.

Posted by: King of Fiji at November 3, 2008 5:55 PMi would love to win the Tofurky Turkey! My whole family thinks you have to have a turkey @ Thanksgiving...I would love to show them that there are delicious alternatives!!!
Thanks
I tried tofurkey about two years ago, I've been a vegetarian for five years now and someone told me to try it on thanksgiving. I had spent the other three thanksgivings just munching on the veggies and potatoes and bread (not good at all). Tofurky to me is one of the reasons I love being a vegetarian. It's so delicious, I don't regret pigging out on it! :) I love how it's so simple to cook, but yet the flavor and aroma is so powerful, just thinking about it makes my mouth water. I know this Thanksgiving, the one thing I can look foreward to, is enjoying the day with my family and also having Tofurky at the table.

Oh my. That's looks so good. Hahha tofurkeys don't have butts. That was funny. I wish someone in my family was a vegetarian so they could enjoy a cruelty free thanksgiving with me.
Thank you peta!!
I would really love to win this... especially since my whole family will be here eating a turkey carcass... I would love to try to get the rest of my family to try it... even though I love my mommy's stuffing =)
Posted by: at November 3, 2008 8:47 PMThis is my first year as a vegan and my mom's first year as a vegetarian and so we were talking about how we would do Thanksgiving because of the turkay and all.
When I found out about Tofurky I went and told her about it. I think all birds should be free and not kiled just for some season. I mean really that's just wrong!
I am proud to be a vegan and I'm looking forwards to having Tofurky this year. Even if I don't win one of those yummy Tofurkys I still will go out to Whole Foods and try to get one.
mmm...i've only ever had a bite of sliced tofurkey, but not a whole one with all the yummy looking stuffing too! now i can finally prove to my family meatless is good too!

Posted by: Kaylee at November 4, 2008 2:50 PMI recently became a vegetarian, through Peta2. And its by far the most amazing thing ive ever done for myself. I think sharing some yummy tofurkey with my family will be just enough to convince them to make the change too. : )
Posted by: Maria at November 4, 2008 2:51 PMWhy would I want to celebrate a holiday of joy and thankfulness by feasting on a innocent animal. I find it horrible that anyone could live like that.

It's soooo yummy!
my mother is making a turkey for thanksgiving. -.-
i'd like to show her how much better Tofurky is both for you and how it tastes. :D
Posted by: Christena at November 4, 2008 3:01 PMI Will not be eating animals this holiday. I am a vegan and love animals to much to eat them and i know that my health is better not eating animals and byprodicts. I am goona try and get this for thanksgiving but money is tight. ( ie not having a job and trying to get one is hard right now ) Don't forget to give thanks to the animals too we love them.
Posted by: Michael at November 4, 2008 3:04 PMi'm eating Tofurkey this year. It's cruel to kill innocent Turkeys. Tofurkey is 100 times better than Turkey's meat. That's a fact! Thanksgiving is going to be full of joy and happiness because i'm saving a Turkey this year.
Posted by: maria at November 4, 2008 3:30 PMI wont be eating turkey this year because after seeing how my family had to fix the turkey for them to eat, i just got sick and couldn't handle. Plus animals are our friends they shouldn't have to die to be food for us.

Posted by: christine reynolds at November 4, 2008 6:00 PMI won't be eating turkey because we are supposed to be giving thanks, not taking lives. Also, plain corn and lettuce at every holiday is getting a little redundant.
Posted by: Heather Cook at November 4, 2008 6:47 PMI wont be eating any turkey this year.

Posted by: Terri Short at November 4, 2008 6:48 PMHey!!! This is so cool. I had no idea there was special tofurkey for the holidays. I've only been a vegetarian for about a year and a half, but it totally feels right, and I'm so glad there is a tofurkey roast with gravy. Last year I ate potatoes. Yum, I know. It would be so cool to win a tofurkey, but if not, I'm glad you posted this year. Now, I'll go to my local organic market and get my own. But not now, later.

Posted by: at November 4, 2008 6:59 PMI have never had a tofurky, but I am totally willing to try.
Posted by: Leah at November 4, 2008 7:07 PMOMG! I had no idea that there was anything like Tofurky! This is amazing! I already told my mom about it and after a long talk, I talked her into letting me serve it as a main course during our thanksgiving dinner (whom we host with the rest of our family) :) this could be so much fun! Anyways, I won't eat any meat (including fish and chicken) ever since I learned about slaughterhouses and what those poor animals go through just to become human food. It's wrong, especially considering there are so many alternatives to eating animals. This thanksgiving, roughly a week before it actually, will be my fourth year without eating meat and the start of the new year is when I plan to go vegan! :)
Posted by: Jessica at November 4, 2008 7:15 PMWhy would I want to win a Torfurky for Thanksgiving?
-Because I'd rather starve than be a graveyard for dead animals.
Posted by: Jessica at November 4, 2008 7:19 PMYummy Tofurkey
:) For the wiiiin.
I would love to win this to serve on Thanksgiving.
Posted by: Yvonne Huff at November 4, 2008 8:34 PMI will NOT be eating turkey or any other animal products on Thanksgiving this year. I prefer not to eat carcass, or to put toxins into my body through milk products.

Posted by: Pat Connors at November 5, 2008 5:38 AMGee i wish my mom were hip enough to make me a tofurky for thanksgiving. But their a little pricy. I wont be eating turkey because they are intelligent social animals that don't deserve to be rounded up and slaughtered. I don't give thanks to cruelty.
Posted by: Julia at November 5, 2008 7:04 AMi wanna trrrry!
Posted by: at November 5, 2008 7:25 AMKilling turkeys is cruel and unusual punishment.
Posted by: David Bertolo at November 5, 2008 8:19 AMOH MY GOSH Tofurky is, like, the best excuse for eating a ton on holidays.
Alot of people in my neighborhood have been feeding these turkeys that walk around in their yards, and watching them, have realized that eating beautiful animals like turkeys is wrong, so they've decided they're not eating turkey this year. YES!
I'm a vegan and a yoga teacher, so I have a chance to gently spread the word. And the wild turkeys that roam my yard are safe with me.
Posted by: Wendy at November 5, 2008 10:11 AMInteresting very interesting. I guess that I would give it a try.
Posted by: Kathy Scott at November 5, 2008 10:40 AMnever liked turkey anyway
Posted by: veronica sandberg at November 5, 2008 10:58 AMUm, I don't have a witty or sentimental statement to put here... it's all been said.
All I have to say is that...
Tofurkey is freakin' DELICIOUS!!!
...and, sadly, they make better stuffing than I do.
:-D
YUM-O!!!!!!!!!!
There is no sense of killing innocent animals when there are so many other alternatives these days. Gone are the days of the cave men!
